Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did Harry receive from the Dursleys for his 10th birthday, as described in 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's / Sorceror's Stone'?

Answer: A coat hanger

The coat hanger was an all time high, because in the past they had not bothered to even give Harry anything. They viewed Harry as disgusting, ugly, weird, and not one of "Their Kind". Kind of puts a spotlight on that sweater or sewing kit you got, doesn't it?
2. What did Harry get for his 11th birthday early in 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's / Sorceror's Stone'?

Answer: Cake & an owl

The cake was given to him by none other then Rubeus Hagrid. On the stormy night of July 30, he came knocking on the door of a shanty on an island. While giving Harry his letter inviting him to attend Hogwarts, Hagrid also gave him a cake. The cake was halfway smashed from Hagrid sitting on it.

The next day Hagrid took him to Diagon Alley to get him his stuff. He also bought Harry an owl, whom Harry named Hedwig from one of his new school books.
3. In 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', what did Harry receive for his 12th birthday?

Answer: Nothing

This is true! Dobby the House-elf was blocking Harry's letters from his friends the entire summer, so that Harry wouldn't want to go back to Hogwarts, because evil things were being planned at the school. As a result, Harry never received any of their letters, or their gifts.
4. In 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', what did Harry receive from Hermione for his 13th birthday?

Answer: Broomstick servicing kit

Harry owned a Nimbus 2000, given to him by Professor MacGonagall his first year. What was unusual about this was that first years weren't usually allowed to play Quidditch, but he was so good that an exception was made. He was the youngest seeker to play at Hogwarts in a hundred years.

The Nimbus 2000 was the newest broomstick out at the time, no doubt highly expensive, and a good broomstick servicing kit would have been a useful gift.
5. What unexpected gift did Harry belatedly receive for his 13th birthday in 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'?

Answer: A Firebolt

This Firebolt was given to Harry by none other than... Sirius Black! The unjustly imprisoned man escaped Azkaban in Harry's third year. Everyone was on the lookout, and Dementors guarded the school. When Harry got the Firebolt from an anonymous donor, Hermione told Prof. McGonagall, who confiscated the Firebolt to check for curses and jinxes.

After a couple of months of agonised waiting, Harry received it back, informed that it was jinx-free. The Firebolt was actually given to him at Christmas, but Sirius told him to think of it as "13 years worth of birthday presents from your Godfather".
6. What did Harry receive from all of his friends on his 14th birthday in 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'?

Answer: Cake

During this summer, Dudley had to go on a diet. Aunt Petunia decided that, in order for this to happen, the whole family had to be on the same harsh diet. Harry pleaded to his friends, and they all sent him cake and other food. Poor Errol (the Weasley's family owl) arrived with so much food he collapsed (although that's not too irregular for him).

Hermione sent a cake and a box stuffed with sugar-free snacks (her parents were dentists), and from Hagrid there was an enormous bag of rock cakes, which Harry didn't touch. Sirius Black also sent him a cake.
7. What did Harry receive for his 15th Birthday from both Ron and Hermione in 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'?

Answer: A box of Honeydukes chocolates

Harry threw the chocolates away in anger, because he thought his friends were ignoring him. Later he regretted this, because Dudley's diet was still on. His friends were only sending him letters with things like "Keep your nose clean" and things that meant absolutely nothing to him.
8. In 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince', what did Harry Mrs. Weasley give Harry for his 16th birthday?

Answer: a cake

His birthday party was celebrated at the Weasleys, but was interrupted by the news of Dementors, so the party was never finished. :(
9. What did Harry get from Mrs. Weasley for his 17th birthday in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'?

Answer: A wizard's watch

It is tradition that when a wizard comes of age he receives a watch. Ron got one that was new, but Mrs. Weasley couldn't afford a new one for Harry, so he got one that used to belong to her brother Fabian. He hadn't taken good care of it, and it had a crack down the center.
10. What was Harry's favorite gift from his 17th birthday in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'?

Answer: A kiss from Ginny

AHHHHH... How sweet! For his birthday Ginny summoned Harry to her room. There she kissed him with a "kiss as potent as firewhisky". They were rudely interrupted by Ron and Hermione, and Ron told Harry off for leading his sister on and giving her false hopes.
