The penguins in this show are a lot of fun. Some of the other animals they meet are very interesting as well. One of my favorites is Roger, the alligator.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Roger the alligator is a very interesting fellow. We meet him in the episode "Haunted Habitat" a very unusual way. Do you remember how?

Answer: He is making frightening sounds in the sewer under Marlene's habitat.

Marlene woke the penguins up because of the scary sound she heard. At first, they don't believe her. However, she is their friend and they want to help. Finally, the penguins hear the scary sound too. Marlene and Skipper go down into the sewer to investigate.
2. In "Haunted Habitat", what is Roger's big concern?

Answer: He thinks he hears a horrible monster.

Roger is a very big animal, at least compared to the penguins or Marlene. However, he has heard a very scary noise coming from above and he thinks it is a monster. He is making his scary noises out of fright.
3. In "Haunted Habitat", it turned out that Roger did not need to be concerned. Why was that?

Answer: The scary sound he heard was not a monster. It was just Marlene snoring.

In trying to convince Marlene that it was her own snoring that was waking her up they had made a recording. Skipper had the tape recorder with him. When he played it back it scared Roger all over again. That is how they figured out Roger's problem and convinced him Marlene was not a monster to fear.
4. In the episode "Roger Dodger" Roger is having trouble in his home. In fact, he is being bullied. Who is the bully?

Answer: The sewer rats who want to take over Roger's home.

The rats are led by the Rat King who is the product of a human experiment. He is very big, well at least for a rat. He is also strong, tough, and not a very nice fellow.
5. In "Roger Dodger", why doesn't Roger stand up to the bullying?

Answer: He is just too nice to get tough with the rats.

It is one of the best jokes in the series. Sure, the King Rat is a big guy, but Roger is even bigger with claws and a very impressive set of teeth. However, he is a meek and peaceful fellow. He can't imagine actually hurting anyone.
6. How do the penguins try to fix Roger's problem in "Roger Dodger"?

Answer: Kowalski builds a mind transfer machine and switches the minds of Roger and Rico into each other's bodies.

It was clear that Roger's peaceful nature was not going to change the way the rats were treating him. Rico's more physical approach to solving problems made more sense to the penguins. Therefore, all they needed was a dash of Kowalski science to get the tough guy mind into the big alligator body.
7. As might be expected Kowalski's invention in "Roger Dodger" doesn't quite work out as he expected. What goes wrong?

Answer: Rico goes out of control and in the big, powerful alligator body that is a real problem.

Kowalski failed to account for the differences between birds and reptiles and the little restraint Rico normally has did not get transferred with the rest of his mind into Roger. As a result, after chasing off the rats, Rico in Roger's body goes off to the city, bashing about, causing panic.
8. How does all the trouble in "Roger Dodger" get fixed in the end?

Answer: Roger in Rico's body sings a lovely lullaby and that puts Rico in Roger's body to sleep.

Roger has a lovely voice. Rico goes from monster to sleeping angel quickly when Roger sings. The penguins then capture him and Rico's and Roger's minds are switched back.
9. In the episode "Gator Watch", Roger is unhappy with his home. The penguins are ready to help. They suggest a series of places for him. Which is NOT one of their suggestions?

Answer: Taking the place of one of the stone lions outside the public library.

It is not surprising that the penguins' ideas didn't work. Roger doesn't look much like a log and he scares people in the Park. He tries to hold completely still in the museum but when kids start to poke him, he moves and scares them. The gargoyle idea fails because Roger is afraid of heights.
10. In "Gator Watch", when the penguins' ideas all fail, Roger is left running for his life in the city. He is caught and is being hauled off in a truck. The penguins start to rescue him but then stop. Why do they stop?

Answer: They discover the truck is taking Roger to the Central Park Zoo.

It is a very nice ending. Roger gets a lovely new home with a clean pond, in the Central Park Zoo.
