Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This dark blue colour is also associated with beans and a branch of the military that operates at sea. What shade of blue?

Answer: NAVY

NAVY blue is actually named for the dark blue uniforms that were worn by sailors in the British NAVY since the mid 18th century. And even NAVY beans got their name from being used so much for NAVY food supplies.
2. Now change one letter to describe a lake or the ocean when it is windy out, or a curved type of line.

Answer: WAVY

If something is WAVY it moves up and down while moving in a different direction - like waves moving in towards the shore, like hair that isn't straight but isn't quite curly, and it is how sound travels through the air.
3. Change one letter to describe something you do with your hand to say hello or goodbye.

Answer: WAVE

The kind of WAVE described in this question is a little different than the WAVEs described in question two. This kind of WAVE doesn't travel in a single direction, but goes back and forth, limited by your reach. But the back-and-forth motion is similar to the other kind of WAVE, which is why it has the same name.
4. Change a letter to describe an hidden space where a bear might live.

Answer: CAVE

A CAVE is usually found underground with an entrance in a hillside or cliff. They can be very small or extend for great distances with many different caverns or tunnels. To explore a CAVE is called 'spelunking'.
5. Change one letter to make a word that describes how you store something in your computer.

Answer: SAVE

When you SAVE something, you are keeping it safe - not letting it be destroyed or damaged. This works on a computer, too, when you SAVE a file in the computer's memory.
6. Change one letter to describe an event at a store when many items are cheaper than usual.

Answer: SALE

If something is 'for SALE', it doesn't actually have to be any cheaper than usual... it just means that someone is trying to sell it. But often, a special event at a store (designed to sell more items, or draw in customers) is called a 'SALE', and often comes with items marked down in price.
7. Change a letter to make a word that is also a story.

Answer: TALE

A TALE is a type of story that can be truth or fiction that is usually told in an imaginative way, like 'Fairy Tales'.
8. Change a letter to describe someone of greater than average height.

Answer: TALL

How TALL someone is is usually in relation to other things or people. A 'normal' sized adult (or even a short one) would be very TALL when compared to a class of kindergarten students.
9. Change one letter to come up with a word that means to give information to someone verbally.

Answer: TELL

Can I TELL you a secret? We TELL other people (or pets or our favourite toys) all kinds of things, all the time. You can even TELL yourself things, if you want.
10. One last little letter change will give you another shade of blue that is also a shade of green.

Answer: TEAL

Just like with 'navy' from question one, TEAL is a colour that got its name from something that displays that colour - in this case a bird called the 'common TEAL'. Teal is a blue-green colour that is a somewhat lighter shade - blue mixed with green into a white base.
