Answer: Jinny

 Barney's grandmother is a 'proper' loveable sweet granny and loves Jinny like Barney loves Miranda.
When Barney finally tracked down his long lost father he found a whole family too, he has uncles, aunts and cousins, who were all overjoyed when he was found.
2. Rat a Tat House is so called because of the legend that the enormous door knocker will 'boom' if there is a traitor in the house. What shape is the knocker?

Answer: Lion's head

 The door knocker is a lion's head with the actual knocker ring held in its mouth. It makes a tremendous noise and really scares everyone when it suddenly booms out in the middle of the night, yet no-one is there when they look out...
3. Who is the Housekeeper who goes to stay at Rat a Tat House with the children?

Answer: Mrs. Tickle

 Mrs. Tickle is a wonderful cook and feeds the children marvellous meals. She even puts up with the mad antics of Loony and Miranda, and is soon a firm friend of the children.

Answer: A bear skin rug

 The bear skin rug is complete with its 'stuffed' head and realistic glass eyes, and gives poor Loony quite a shock when he first sees it.

 The glove is very large, and made of black wool, so the children know it cannot be one of theirs. It must belong to one of the mysterious baddies who are lurking around.

 The toboggan turns up by the lake shore - eventually the children realise that the baddies have used it to transport heavy crates across the snow and ice to a new hiding place.

 The baddies are a gang of gunrunners. They chose to stash the guns at Rat a Tat House as they thought it was empty for the winter. The extensive cellars were going to be the perfect hiding place until the children and Mrs. Tickle arrived.
8. When the police are called, how do they get through the snow to Rat a Tat House?

Answer: By helicopter

 Once the phone line is restored, the children can call for help. The police arrive in a helicopter, and the boys clear the snow from a landing square in the garden. Diana and Mrs. Tickle fetch all the dark coloured curtains out of the house to mark it out with.
9. The baddies had to move from the cellars of Rat a Tat House when the children arrived. Where did they stash their 'stuff' to hide it from them?

Answer: Under the ice of the lake

 Snubby stubbed his toe on the ice of the lake, and the children and police realised there was a perfectly circular 'plug' of ice where a hole had been cut. The cases of guns had been sunk into the water under the ice to hide them.

Answer: To bang the doorknocker of Rat a Tat House

 Snubby loves anything that makes a noise, and the knocker at Rat a Tat House is no exception.
