Paddington was the bear found by the Brown family. The "Paddington Bear" books were written by Michael Bond, the first being published in 1956. There is a bronze statue of Paddington Bear at the Paddington railway station in London.

"Brideshead Revisited" is the book in which Aloysius appeared. In 1981 Granada TV in the UK serialised the book and as in the book, Aloysius featured prominently. In 2007 it was announced that a remake of the book was to be made, but the writer did not intend featuring the bear at all. Following many complaints from the public, the role of Aloysius was reinstated although his appearance was very brief.

Baloo was the "Jungle Book" bear. "The Jungle Book" was written by Rudyard Kipling who had been born in India in 1865 and lived there until he was six when he was sent back to England for his education. He returned to India in 1882. "The Jungle Book" is based on the bedtime stories he made up for his three children, Elsie, Josephine and John.
