Mount Washington is located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and is part of the Presidential range. It is 6288 feet high and is noted for its record high winds and challenging weather conditions.
2. How many of the eight Ivy League colleges are located in New England?

Answer: 4

Brown University is in Rhode Island, Yale is in Connecticut, Harvard is in Massachusetts and Dartmouth is in New Hampshire.
3. What river, the longest in New England, serves as the border for two of the northern New England states then crosses two more New England states before it flows into the Atlantic Ocean?

Answer: Connecticut River

The Connecticut originates near the Canadian border in New Hampshire and serves as the border between that state and Vermont, then crosses both Massachusetts and Connecticut on its way to the Atlantic.

The Appalachian trail is 2192 miles long and crosses a total of 14 states. It begins in Georgia and ends in Maine. Roughly 1/3 of the trail is in New England.

It is easy to locate pictures of "through hikers" standing on the summit of Mt Katahdin in Maine as they celebrate the completion of the arduous journey.

Although all four are ski areas located in New England, Attitash and Wildcat are in NH and Sugarloaf is in Maine. Jay Peak in Vermont is located about five miles south of the Canadian border and averages well over 300 inches of snow annually.

Answer: Maine

Whether you measure in a straight line (CRS method) or count every little inlet (NOAA method) along the Atlantic coast, Maine wins hands down with 228 miles(CRS)/3478 miles(NOAA). Massachusetts comes second with 192 miles(CRS)/1519 miles(NOAA).
8. Which is the only New England state that does not have ANY ocean coastline?

Answer: Vermont

New Hampshire has only 13 miles of coastline but Vermont has none.
9. The first nuclear submarine was built in which New England port?

Answer: Groton, CT

The USS Nautilus was built in Groton, CT between 1952-1954. It remained in service for about 25 years.
10. Which state, the last of the 13 original colonies to become a state, hosted the first national lawn tennis tournament in 1889 and is the home to the Tennis Hall of Fame?

Answer: Rhode Island

Rhode Island is also credited with hosting the first open golf tournament in the U.S.and some sources note it as the place where polo was first played in the U.S. What a sporty little state!
