Founded in about 1100, the city of Timbuktu was situated on a main trading route, and also developed as a centre of Islamic culture.

The islands, created by the Uros people, are made of totora reeds that grow in the shallow parts of the lake. They are one of the top tourist attractions in the beautiful country of Peru.

Answer: Laos

The landlocked country that is Laos has had a troubled past, but the tourism industry is being developed lately at a fast pace. The official slogan is "Simply Beautiful". The Pont du Gard is the highest of all the aqueducts built by the Romans and served to transport water from Uzes to Nimes. Built in the first century, it is, along with the aqueduct at Segovia, one of the best preserved. It crosses the river Gardon and is well worth a visit if you are in the area!

Although the Pitons are not the highest peaks on the island - that is Mount Gimie which stands at 950 metres, they are the most recognised feature of the beautiful island which is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area.

The Sugar Loaf stands in the southern part of the Black Mountains, and has a height of 596 metres. It is considered easily accessible to ramblers and offers amazing views across the surrounding countryside. Its conical shape which makes it instantly recognisable, makes it look rather like a volcano.
