Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Following the defeat of Mokmurian in Jorgenfist, a sinkhole will appear in what region?

Answer: Sandpoint

Shortly after the defeat of Mokmurian in the caverns beneath Jorgenfist, Sandpoint will, once again, play home to an odd occurrence (it doesn't seem to end, does it?). This time, after a sinkhole appears in the town there's no choice but to delve back into the Catacombs of Wrath beneath the town and investigate the noises from within. What can be found is a being known as The Scribbler who guards a Shrine to Lamashtu deep within.

It comes as no surprise that this journey into the depths ties into the Runelords, and reading the Thassilonian scrawlings on the wall will give insight into the next destination: Rimeskull and the Runeforge.
2. Which of the following creatures is Arkhryst, who guards the Sihedron Circle near Lake Stormunder?

Answer: Dragon

Any heroes reaching Rimeskull will be likely to spot the giant Sihedron Circle waiting next to Lake Stormunder, the alleged home of the Runeforge. Each point on the symbol will correspond to a statue of a Runelord, and each statue will contain a key unlocking a corresponding mechanism in the Frozen Cathedral beneath Rimeskull. Accessing the keys, however, will spark the attention of Arkrhyst, an ancient white dragon who guards the region in and around Xin's Stairway.

It's likely that anyone looking to venture into the Runeforge will need to dispatch him, otherwise he could follow them inside.
3. The Runeforge chamber directly north of the entrance is that of Greed. The Vault of Greed contains a morphic mist which can do which of the following?

Answer: Transform heroes into animals

Karzoug's own chambers, the Vaults of Greed are lavish and expensive, but also quite deadly as what's contained inside can be very important for heroes or greedy souls alike. The morphic mist found early on is indicative of the area's predilection toward transmutation spells; it can transform anyone who passes through into a goldfish with a baleful polymorph spell, dropping them into a nearby pool of water.

The area is also home to an evil mage, Ordikon, who protects the research being performed in the deeper chambers, closer to the pool of elemental arcana.
4. To avoid being sickened by the foul vapours in the Festering Maze of Sloth, you would have to reside within its corridors for how long?

Answer: One week

The maze dedicated to the Runelord of Sloth is rancid, mainly because its sewer-like corridors contain a river of literal filth and the place is shrouded by a thick haze of disgusting smog (which does require Fortitude saves to avoid being sickened by). Pipes running through the chambers lead to the lair of Jordimandus, the ruler of this area, who simply won't leave his room (it is sloth after all).

While the pipes will likely help anyone looking to use the Runeforge to upgrade their weapon, the most valuable piece of interest in the maze is a list of runeforged weapon components left behind by its boss when defeated.
5. Envy is, by far, the smallest of the seven chambers breaking off the main hub of the Runeforge.

Answer: True

The Abjurant Halls of Envy are the smallest only because they were destroyed long ago by stronger forces. Those who were within its halls sought more power and, in a sense, brought the tragedy upon themselves, but it doesn't mean the hall is without its dangers; a staff in the main chamber therein will let off a disjunction pulse, possibly removing any magical abilities from heroes within range. Meanwhile, Ooze from the adjacent Sloth chambers will leak through the walls.

A pool in one corner of the Envy area contains a powerful, metallic liquid known as Ethillion...which is quite expensive in itself since it can leech magical powers and imbue them into items.
6. Delvahine, who rules over the Iron Cages of Lust, is which of the following?

Answer: Succubus

While the Iron Cages of Lust are, in essence, simply one large room, they're partitioned off in the center with a large, billowing, curtained-off reach containing Delvahine's chambers. This succubus is one of the smarter bosses of the Runeforge, mainly because her cunning actually has other Runeforge leaders in her grasp (notably Vraxeris). With her harpies by her side and her cages of servants, she has the uncanny, but not too off-the-mark ability to charm and beguile enemies at her disposal, not to mention the allies by her side she's accumulated with said powers.
7. Vraxeris, the boss found in the Shimmering Veils of Pride, has six of which of the following at his disposal?

Answer: Clones

Vraxeris, ever the embodiment of pride, has the necessary components (and time, it would seem) to cast the ninth-level spell Improved Clone, and has been doing so repeatedly for centuries. His six latest clones appear in the main chamber of the Pride halls along with the seventh and final Vraxeris (who's actually been dead for a couple of years), and all of them are of virtually equal power.

While many of the evil-aligned items on his body may be of some use (or scorn, depending), a letter in his chambers will allude to the method in which one can use the Runeforge on their weapons.
8. Which of these options is the Champion of Wrath?

Answer: Athroxis

Found in the simply-named Halls of Wrath, Highlady Athroxis lords over the training grounds that can be found in this sixth reach of the Runeforge. The Champion of Wrath, Athroxis is a mighty warrior who, as per the stipulations of the mark placed upon her, defeated the previous champion to take over as ruler of this battle-heavy hall.

She'll know of the heroes' entry before they arrive and be prepared, in her ring of fire and with a glabrezu by her side, for the fight. Whoever deals the final blow against Athroxis will become the Champion of Wrath, don her semi-permanent mark, and gain new, magical powers/resistances.
9. What is Azaven's Phylactery in the Ravenous Crypts of Gluttony?

Answer: Coffin

Lending itself to the chamber's necromantic edge, Azaven, a lich necromancer guarding the later rooms of the Crypts of Gluttony, can only be truly killed if you also obliterate his phylactery, the item containing the power of his lifeforce. While this was a concept first explored in Misgivings in 'The Skinsaw Murders' way back when, it's been perfected by this long-living, evil foe; his phylactery is a thick, stone coffin in a room of deadly traps. Even if you kill this soul-leeching boss of the area, you still need to destroy the phylactery or, else, make haste in getting out of his realm.
10. Which of these runeforged weapon traits will have the strongest effect against Karzoug?

Answer: Dominant

If the heroes solve the puzzle correctly they'll return to the Runeforge proper and toss the three of seven necessary ingredients into the pool therein and empower their weapons with one of seven specific traits: Covetous/Charitable, Dominant/Commanding, Jealous/Trusting, Miserly/Generous, Parasitic/Symbiotic, Sadistic/Compassionate, Tyrannical/Liberal. Each will be determined depending on character alignment and will greatly oppose specific types of casters. Karzoug, being a transmuter, is weakest against a Dominant/Commanding weapon. If a hero makes such a weapon, the Karzoug statue in front of the Greed chambers will animate and battle...and Karzoug will be fully aware of his foes' proximity.

The only thing left to do is find him in Xin-Shalast.
