Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What exactly is the Dread Ring?

Answer: A battlefield

The battlefield gets its name from its layout- it's essentially three small rings encased within one. In each 'ring', a different section of Thayan troops are stationed along with a high ranking member of the army to lead them. One objective of the campaign is to drive them out, to give the Neverwinter army breathing room.
2. When the party arrives at camp, who do they find mainly responsible for giving orders (quests) as the leader of the Neverwinter army?

Answer: Sergeant Knox

Knox takes up the helm and is the face of the army. Atop his warhorse, he works diligently in his fervent opposition of the Thayan army.
3. In order to make serious strides towards winning the war, the party must venture into the city of Thay numerous times. However, as it would be, Thay is not actually in the material realm, so conventional methods of travel will not work. Unfortunately, nobody within their allies seems to possess the means to head there themselves. What is the only (initial) way the party can reach Thay?

Answer: Take over an enemy tower and use their magic to enter

The enemy towers in the Phantasmal Realm, the Dread Spire and the Death Commander's chambers all harbor a set of Teleportation Rods wired to go right to Thay. Assuming control of those rods is as straightforward a way as possible to reach the evil city. Of course, actually taking over these towers is easier said than done.
4. The party is strongly cautioned to only enter Thay "under the cover of night" as it is explained. Why is this?

Answer: Security is much less formidable at night

The Thayan army happens to be pretty oppressive towards its citizens, and maintains constant house arrest on them... during the day. In daytime, the city is teeming with countless numbers of soldiers, the likes of which would easily overwhelm the party if they were to be discovered.

The fact that nobody is allowed out of their homes makes it harder on the party to blend in as well, for if they are spotted they will be confronted and likely attacked very quickly. At night, security loosens considerably, and they will be much harder to spot from a distance. Thus, venturing into the city at night is essential.
5. Heading into Thay at night only seems simple enough, but things get to be a bit complicated due to Thay not being on the same plane of existence as the party. Why is this?

Answer: Days in Thay are longer

A single day in Thay is 48 hours long, twice the length of a day on the material plane. Thus, nighttime on the material plane will sometimes be daytime in Thay, so the party must make sure to keep track of what time of day it is in Thay.
6. In seeking conquest of Neverwinter, what is Valindra Shadowmantle's ultimate goal?

Answer: Progression towards world domination

All of these options would be nice in her mind for her to complete, but complete domination is her ultimate goal. Considering the Neverwinter army positions itself as her most formidable opposition by far, she theorizes that victory here will create an inevitable end with her attaining world domination.
7. Overall, is Valindra truly evil?

Answer: Yes

Valindra is completely consumed by her own rage and hatred, symbolized by her crown which she weapon uses that is powered by those two very elements. If left to her own devices, Valindra would kill pretty much every person not allied to her and add them to her collection of mindless undead drones. Valindra is without a doubt wickedly evil, and addressing her threat level has become a major priority of Neverwinter's.
8. When a major conflict with Valindra takes place, should the party defeat her, will this end the war?

Answer: No

As it turns out, Valindra isn't the head honcho of Thay. Though she is a majorly influential character, Szass Tam is the ruler of Thay - only his defeat will finally end the dreadful war.
9. Overall, who is the strongest enemy the party will fight in the campaign?

Answer: The Death Commander

Valindra clocks in at a very close second - her control powers, choking capability and overall powerful necrotic magic make fighting her a daunting task. But make no mistake, the Death Commander is a truly fearsome foe. This unnamed assailant boasts several resistances to very common elements - slashing, bludgeoning, piercing, magical piercing, fire, radiant, psychic, cold and lightning, while possessing key immunities to water and necrotic. Combined with his humongous great sword and massive HP pool of over 700, he is definitely the toughest enemy to face off against.

Szass Tam, the ruler of Thay, might seem to be an option. However, Tam is a retired wizard, too old to make a potent user of magic. He can cast some very basic magic spells, but if left to his own, the party should be able to easily overcome him.
10. When the war is finally won, what becomes of Thay?

Answer: Allied insurgents take it over

The Thayan Insurrection consists of a small squadron of Red Wizards who opted not to fight for Thay, as a measure of disagreement over their leadership decisions. Rath Modar, Jesket the Renegade and more are essentially handed the keys to the city once Szass Tam and his government fall.

Considering the innocent civilians, who themselves were being oppressed against their will, there was never going to be an outcome where Neverwinter completely destroyed the city, essentially dooming them to death, homelessness, or worse.
