Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is happening at the beginning of "Ptolemy's Gate"?

Answer: Some assassins are trying to kill Ptolemy.

A group of assassins was sent to kill Ptolemy. They don't succeed, for though it appears that Ptolemy is fast asleep on his bed, it's actually Bartimaeus who they see, Ptolemy having hidden so they wouldn't find him. Bartimaeus, of course, manages to kill the assassins.
2. Why does Bartimaeus like to take the form of Kitty Jones in this book?

Answer: Because it makes Nathaniel feel guilty.

Being reminded of Kitty Jones makes Nathaniel fell guilty because he thinks that she died when she defeated the golem, and so it's because of her that he's still alive. She actually isn't dead, but Bartimaeus decided to tell Nathaniel that she was, so that she would be able to escape. You may think that it's because Bartimaeus and Kitty were friends, but actually they aren't until the end of the book.
3. Which of these is not a name Kitty uses?

Answer: Sarah Hyrnek

Kitty has to change her name, otherwise Bartimaeus telling Nathaniel she is dead would have been pointless. She decides to have two identities. Mr. Button calls her Lizzie Temple, and she's Clara Bell at the place where she works.
4. What is the Information Ministry's account of the war's progress called?

Answer: Real War Stories

"Real War Stories" is what the government is using to convince the people that war is heroic. It has (false) stories about how heroic it is, so that people will want to go to war, and will forget that they will probably die.
5. Which of these is not one of Bartimaeus's names?

Answer: Ascobol

Ascobol was the djinn who liked to take the guise of a cyclops. He was also a servant of Nathaniel, but he and Bartimaeus hated each other.
6. Who told Nathaniel that Kitty was still alive, and where she was?

Answer: Nick Drew

Quentin Makepeace is the one who got Nick to tell Nathaniel where Kitty was.
7. Which of these spirits is not in "Ptolemy's Gate"?

Answer: Queezle

Queezle is killed by the golem in "The Golem's Eye". All the others are djinn in service to Nathaniel.
8. Carl Mortensen is the Security Minister.

Answer: False

He is the Minister of War. Jessica Whitwell is the Security Minister.
9. Which of these Magicians has never been one of Bartimaeus's masters?

Answer: They all were.

Kitty learns about these when she is trying to find out who Ptolemy is.
10. By the end of the book, Bartimaeus doesn't dislike Nathaniel very much.

Answer: True

Bartimaeus thinks that Nathaniel is an okay magician, even though he doesn't like him quite as much as he liked Ptolemy.
