While Stephenie Meyer doesn't come out and tell the reader this, it's pretty obvious by some of the descriptions. The werewolves are guarding the territories where humans live from the evil vampires like Laurent or Victoria.

Answer: Quil

The book tells us that "My breath caught for just a moment in my throat, hopeful that luck was with me for once, and I'd stumbled across Jacob without hardly trying. But this boy was too wide, and the hair was short under the hat." Although he was taller than the last time she'd seen him, Bella knew without a doubt that it was Quil she had seen.

3. In chapter 14, Bella is at Emily's house enjoying a muffin when somebody gorges himself on a third. Who's the glutton?

It was Embry, as Paul and Sam are still absent. Emily, who is human but acts as the pack's mother,, rebukes him for being a hog.

It is Victoria, the malevolent vampire who loved James. The other choices are protectors of the humans rather than threats.

It is Jacob, though Bella was sure it would be Charlie. After making sure she was all right, Jacob ended the call.

This is discussed a little in 'Twilight' when Jacob tells Bella the Quileute legends about the Cold Ones, but it's more clear in this book. In fact, Jacob and the other wolves even force Bella to choose to befriend them or the Cullens in 'New Moon'.

Answer: Rosalie Hale

It was Rosalie who, without thinking (my personal opinion), informed her brother of their sister's latest vision-that Bella had jumped off a cliff and was dead. Turns out that Bella, while she did dive off a cliff, had no intention of harming herself and in fact survived (Jacob rescued her before she drowned). Foolish though her leap may have been, Bella just wanted to hear Edward's voice again-and found that dangerous situations did that.

8. In chapter 19 when Bella and Alice are waiting for their flight to leave the airport, what does the vampire tell her human companion?

Answer: "It's faster than running"

While Alice does say all these things in the chapter, only "It's faster than running" is said to Bella. The other three are made to Jasper as the plane is en route to Italy.

In chapter 21, Aro is mystified and intrigued by Bella's immunity to Edward's and his abilities, which are similar. He then wonders if Jane will be any more successful. This irritates Edward, until he notices that Bella is not injured in any way. This, of course, infuriates Jane.

10. Who is it who gives Edward, Alice and Bella permission to leave Volterra?

Answer: Aro

Chapter 22 finds the trio being escorted to the reception area by Demetri, who tells them not to go anywhere "until dark". Technically, he is just passing on instructions from his leader, Aro. Later, Alec is sent in to say it's OK to go. (Of course, their freedom comes at a price: before too long, Bella must be made into a vampire or Edward's entire family will be destroyed.)
