Andrea noticed the abandoned van parked alongside the road. She ordered the group to stop so they could inspect it. The keys were left inside and it appeared to be in good condition. They put gas in the tank and added it to their convoy, which included a truck and a set of horses.

Answer: Ben had murdered his twin brother

Previous stories had hinted that Ben was dangerous. When he lived with his brother, Dale, and Andrea at a small house, he poked and prodded at a dead cat. Andrea could only gasp when she saw the knife in Ben's hand. With a calm demeanor, he told her, "Don't worry, he's going to come back. I didn't hurt his brains." She locked him up in the van after that.

Answer: Carl

Ben was locked up in the newfound van while the adults discussed what to do with him. Abraham pointed out that in the old world, with no zombies, children like Ben would be committed for twenty years, and even then, they could never truly be "normal." Carl snuck into the van that night and killed the demented little boy. Later on, Carl told his father what he had done.

Answer: Morgan

Michonne admitted that she was "maybe" interested in Morgan, the man Rick first met after waking from his coma. She didn't think she'd ever be interested in someone since losing Tyreese, who she had previously been connected to. Rick told her he trusted Morgan.

Answer: He had been bitten and was depressed

Dale had lost his two inherited sons in one day and was then attacked by a zombie. During the night he snuck away from the camp to essentially give himself up to the zombies, because with the bite, he was dead anyway. Instead, he was attacked by humans and was dragged away.

Answer: Another weakened zombie

In the previous novel, "What We Become," the group discovered a zombie that could not lift itself up enough to bite them. In this story, a zombie fell down in front of Abraham after trying to attack him. It too was weak and could not move much. Eugene pointed out that the monster had limited body control and he wished that he could study it properly in a lab.

Answer: In a church

Gabriel, a priest who ran into the group as they rested, informed them that there was a sturdy church close by. He explained tearfully that when the zombies came, he locked himself inside and ignored the pleas and cries of his parishioners and neighbors. He heard their anguished cries and ignored those as well. The group loved the church because of the long pews and strong defenses.

Answer: His leg

Poor Dale, who had already lost one leg to a zombie bite, lost the other leg when the Hunters cut it off. To his immense disgust, he saw his foot resting over a fire; the rest of his leg was on the Hunters' plates. In fact, most of the leg had already been consumed. Later, the cannibals tried to use Dale as a scare tactic, but the idea blew up in their faces.

Answer: He laughed

Instead of losing control or begging for his life, Dale threw his head back and began to laugh hysterically. Confused, David, the leader of the Hunters, assumed that Dale was losing it. Dale informed the cannibals that he had snuck away from his friends because he had been bitten by a zombie. He said that they had just eaten "tainted meat."

Answer: They were all killed

Learning from the mistakes of their past, the group knew what had to be done. The Hunters had taken Dale's leg and had even eaten their own children. The group took all of the Hunters' weapons and killed each and every one of them. Rick especially had it hard because he ignored David's pleas as he killed the leader.

The bodies were burned as the group looked on. Gabriel hated what they did, but Rick shot his objections down. He growled at the priest, saying that if he himself had been outside the church when the parishioners were killed by the zombies, that he felt their blood spill on his skin, he would not protest the murders. Haunted, the group returned to the church where Andrea and Rick got to see Dale one last time.
