Dan and Laurie talk about Captain Carnage in the first issue, how he got his kicks being beaten up by heroes. Laurie fell for his act, while Dan ignored him, but later Captain Carnage was dropped down an elevator shaft when he attempted to take on Rorschach.

2. Who is considered the first masked adventurer in the 'Watchmen' universe?

Answer: Hooded Justice

Hooded Justice; Hollis Mason's book 'Under the Hood,' states that Hooded Justice was the first to appear wearing a costume and fighting crime. He later went missing rather than reveal his true name to the public during the McCarthy trials and was never heard from again. Hollis speculates that he was a wrestler named Rolf Muller.

In letters it also reveals that Hooded Justice and Captain Metropolis were lovers and that Sally Jupiter helped them hide the fact by pretending to date Hooded Justice.

Another interesting theory by James Gifford states that two characters seen in Issue #1, page 25, panel 4, two older homosexual men in the foreground, are actually Hooded Justice and Captain Metropolis, alive and well, and that Captain Metropolis must have faked his death to be with his long time lover. I have to admit I like the theory and that the two characters do resemble older versions of the two men.

Ursula was forced to retire from being the Silhouette when the Minutemen discovered she was a lesbian. She and her lover were murdered weeks after by a minor adversary.
