Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Once I bit my tongue and I tasted awful".

Answer: The Road to Morocco

My favorite of the 'Road' pictures, "The Road to Morocco" features Bob, Bing Crosby, and Dorothy Lamour. The plot revolves around Bing selling Bob into slavery and both of the two heroes wooing the Princess, played by Anthony Quinn, er I mean Dorothy Lamour.

In the opening scene Bob and Bing are adrift at sea, with little hope of rescue and running low on food and water. Bing flips a coin to see which of them would be the survivor and whom would make the great sacrifice. Bob protests by telling Bing that he would not like him, because he tastes really bad.
2. "I hate to interrupt, but your straitjacket is showing".

Answer: Where There's Life

The 1947 movie "Where There's Life" stars Bob with Signe Hasso and William Bendix. Bob plays a DJ named Michael Valentine, who on the eve of his marriage finds out that he is the new King of Barovia (a tiny country know one has heard about) and that he has to deal with the countries enemies.

In this scene, the general (Signe Hasso) is trying to explain that he really is the King, but Bob thinks its a gag and he replies to her that 'her straitjacket is showing'.
3. "I got a long life line. Well it was here a minute ago".

Answer: My Favorite Blonde

The 1947 movie "My Favorite Blonde" features Bob, Madeleine Carroll, and Gale Sondergaard. Bob gets mixed up with spies and and murder while trying to deliver secret microfilm. In this scene, Miss Bentley (Carroll) who is a British spy, tells Bob that the people following her are ruthless and will stop at nothing, including killing him. Bob replies nothing doing, 'he has a long lifeline'.

Then he looks at his hand and realizes it is gone.
4. "That's kidnapping. You can't do that to me. Do you have a permit"?

Answer: The Princess and the Pirate

The 1944 film "The Princess and the Pirate" stars Bob has 'The Great Sylvester' and Virginia Mayo as the Princess. The two are on the lam running from pirate Victor McLaglen and the villainous governor played by Walter Slezak. Walter Brennan co-stars and there is a surprising cameo at the end. Bob is kidnapped by the governor and he protests in vain, since most crimes are legal if one has a permit.
5. "You heard me Boy Scout. Go find your spear and sit on it".

Answer: Caught in the Draft

The 1944 movie "Caught in the Draft" stars Bob has a movie star who while trying to to avoid the draft accidentally enlists. The movie co-stars Dorothy Lamour, Eddie Bracken and Lynne Overman. In this scene Dorothy Lamour and her father, the Colonel, visit a movie set where Bob is making a war movie. Bob mistakes the Colonel for an extra and treats him in a demeaning manner.
6. "The girls call me Pilgrim, because every time I dance with one I make a little progress".

Answer: The Ghost Breakers

The 1940 film "The Ghost Breakers" stars Bob and Paulette Goddard. Bob and Paulette investigate an eerie Cuban house that she has inherited. In the scene, Bob is dancing with Paulette and trying to assure her because she is frightened from threats on her life.
7. "You wouldn't be seen in those kind of places".

Answer: The Road to Utopia

The fourth 'Road' picture features Bob and Bing in Alaska looking for a lost gold mine and fighting over Dorothy. In this scene, Dorothy is pretending to romance Bob so she could get her hands on the map to the goldmine. She suggests to Bob that perhaps they had met before, perhaps in his dreams. Bob replies that Dorothy wouldn't be seen in those kind of places.
8. "Brave men run in my family".

Answer: The Paleface

The 1948 film "The Paleface" stars Bob as a dentist who goes to the old west. There he hooks up with federal agent Jane Russell, who uses Bob as a decoy while she searches for the people responsible for selling guns to the indians. In this scene Bob has just been proclaimed a hero for killing 15 indians (okay, it was 11) and he brags about his heroics and that it was nothing because 'brave men run in his family.' "The Paleface" was remade in 1968 as "The Shakiest Gun in the West" and starred Don Knotts and Barbara Rhodes.
9. "Look, why don't you just run for Congress and let us alone, eh"?

Answer: The Road to Rio

The fifth of the seven 'Road' pictures, the 1947 film, "The Road to Rio" stars Bob, Bing and Dorothy Lamour. Bob and Bing are musicians who stowaway aboard a ship headed for Rio. They meet Dorothy, who is being controlled by her evil 'aunt' (Gale Sondergaard) through hypnosis. One minute Dorothy is helping Bob and Bing and the next moment she is turning them in. Dorothy tries to apologize to Bob for turning them in to the captain, but he will have not of it and he tells her off with his Congress remark. "Rio" also featured the Wiere Brothers, the Andrew Sisters and Jerry Colonna (as the cavalry).
10. "Well corn my pone and chit my chitlins".

Answer: The Lemon Drop Kid

The 1951 movie "The Lemon Drop Kid" stars Bob as a race track tout who owes big money to a gangster and must pay up or else. Marilyn Maxwell co-stars as Bob's girlfriend and the two of them introduce a new song titled "Silver Bells". In this scene, Bob pretends to be southern so he can appeal to a southern woman who has a load of cash. Bob convinces her to put a lot of money on a certain horse.

However that horse comes in last and then Bob finds out that the little southern belle was the girlfriend of the local crime boss.
