Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Paternal unit follows the Deity

Answer: The Godfather

Paternal unit = Father
Deity = God
Put the first after the second and start with the definite article and we have "The Godfather".

In the 1972 film and its sequels, Al Pacino played Michael, the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone, the titular character. Over the course of the movies Michael overcame his distaste for the family "business" and took over the role of Godfather himself, leading a powerful Mafia family in the USA. Pacino was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category of the Oscars for this film, and Best Actor for "The Godfather Part II" (1975), winning neither.
2. Hysteria in a sewing instrument's promenade

Answer: Panic In Needle Park

Hysteria could be described as panic, and a needle is an important instrument when sewing. You could take a promenade in a park, and when you put them all together the result is "The Panic in Needle Park" (1971).

In this film, described by most critics and reviewers as "disturbing", Pacino played a heroin addict and drug dealer named Bobby, whose dealings in and around Sherman Square, nicknamed Needle Park for its popularity with addicts and dealers, are followed.
3. Whichever presented christian Sabbath

Answer: Any Given Sunday

Whichever = Any
Presented = Given
Christian Sabbath = Sunday
So we have "Any Given Sunday" (1999)

In this sports drama, Pacino played Tony D'Amato, head coach of a fictional American football team called the Miami Sharks. His struggles included a mercenary owner (Cameron Diaz), an injured quarterback (Dennis Quaid) and a team that was both aging and lacking a true leader. Jamie Foxx also appeared.
4. Canine twenty-four hours, post meridiem

Answer: Dog Day Afternoon

Canine = Dog
24 hours = Day
Post meridiem = Afternoon

"Dog Day Afternoon" (1975) was about a botched bank robbery, with Pacino playing one of the robbers, a Vietnam vet named Sonny, who wanted the money to pay for an operation for his wife. The police surrounded the bank and the film followed the ensuing standoff and its results, all loosely based on a real incident.
5. Extreme warmth

Answer: Heat

Extreme warmth is another way of saying "heat".

The movie "Heat" (1995) had Pacino playing Los Angeles police Lt. Vincent Hanna, who was on the trail of a group of thieves who had unwittingly left a clue to their identity at one of their heists. Robert De Niro played the head thief.
6. Cicatrix countenance

Answer: Scarface

Cicatrix = Scar
Countenance = Face
Put them together as one word and we have "Scarface" (1983).

As Cuban refugee, Tony "Scarface" Montana, Pacino found himself involved in the drug scene in Miami, using violent means to rise to the top of the field.
7. Sinatra and Carson, to friends

Answer: Frankie and Johnny

Early in his career, crooner and actor Frank Sinatra was sometimes known as Frankie, especially to his adoring teenage fans. Johnny Carson was the host of "The Tonight Show" from 1962 until 1992.

In "Frankie and Johnny" (1991), Al Pacino played Johnny, while Frankie was portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer. Johnny was an ex-con who got a job in a restaurant where Frankie was a waitress. He fell in love with her right away, and tried to get her to reciprocate.
8. Amorous ocean

Answer: Sea of Love

An "amorous ocean" could be a "Sea of Love" (1989).

While trying to track down a serial killer, Detective Frank Keller (Pacino) fell in love with Helen (Ellen Barkin), a chief suspect. The killer found their victims in the "Lonely Hearts" section of a newspaper, where unhappy people left messages hoping to find a mate. Was Helen the killer? I'll never tell.
9. Female aroma

Answer: Scent of a Woman

Female = Woman
Aroma = Scent
Put them together in a four word phrase and we have "Scent of a Woman" (1992).

Pacino played Lt.Col. Frank Slade, a blind retired army officer and a young Chris O'Donnell played Charlie, a prep school kid who took a job looking after Slade for Thanksgiving. Slade was a grumpy, unpleasant sort of guy, and he insisted on going to New York for the holiday weekend. The title referred to a pleasure Frank could still enjoy, after losing his sight. Pacino won the Best Actor Oscar for this performance.
10. Male from the Emerald Isle

Answer: The Irishman

The Emerald Isle is Ireland, so a male from there is "The Irishman" (2019).

In this very long crime family biopic, Pacino played union boss Jimmy Hoffa, who mysteriously disappeared in 1975 and whose fate remained the subject of debate for decades. The titular Irishman was Frank Sheeran, played by Robert De Niro, who was a colleague and friend of Hoffa. Nominated for ten Oscars, including Pacino in the Supporting Actor category, "The Irishman" won none.
