Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. James Brown sang about how he felt, while the Beach Boys sang of feeling a little bit "shaky".

Answer: I Feel Good Vibrations

James Brown, a.k.a. "The Godfather of Soul", was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. His hit "I Feel Good" was a chart-topper in 1966. (Note: the actual title is ("I Got You) I Feel Good" but most people know this song as simply "I Feel Good").

The Beach Boys' #1 Hit from 1966, "Good Vibrations", came from the album "Pet Sounds". *I made up the other three answers using parts of Beach Boys or James Brown song titles, but none of the incorrect answers contain both a Beach Boys and a James Brown title.
2. This song is one of the biggest hits for The Eagles, and the next song was a hit in the late 1960's for The Mamas and the Papas.

Answer: Hotel California Dreamin

The Eagles' album "Hotel California" was released in December of 1976, and went platinum in only one week! It was number one on the charts within a month. The Mamas and the Papas were formed in 1964, and had a hit with "California Dreaming" in 1966. However, the group's success was short-lived, and they broke up in 1968 due to creative differences.
3. If you combine the Queen song from the 1990's movie "Wayne's World" with an instrumental piece from the 1980's movie "Somewhere in Time" starring Christopher Reeve, you will get "Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue".

Answer: False

"Rhapsody in Blue" is a composition by George Gershwin, while the instrumental piece from the Christopher Reeve movie is actually "Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini" by the Russian composer Sergi Rachmaninoff.
4. What would you get if you combined a song from "The Muppet Movie" with one from "The Wizard of Oz"?

Answer: Somewhere Over the Rainbow Connection

Two of my favorite movies as a little girl! "The Muppet Movie" was released in 1979. "Rainbow Connection" is sung by our favorite green friend, Kermit the Frog. The beautiful ballad "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is known as the theme to the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz". Young Judy Garland gave a wonderful performance in the role of Dorothy Gale, and even as a singer in her later life, Judy reported that "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was one of her top-requested songs to perform.
5. This Peter Gabriel song was the love theme from 1989's romantic comedy "Say Anything" while Billy Idol scored a hit with this 1980's tune.

Answer: In Your Eyes Without a Face

"Say Anything" stars John Cusack and Ione Skye, and in probably the most romantic scene in the movie, Cusack's character tries to win back his girlfriend by blasting "In Your Eyes" which was "their song" outside her bedroom window. *Aaw....how sweet! Billy Idol released his song with a rather creepy title in 1983.
6. Lee Greenwood's patriotic song meets The Guess Who's feminine-sounding song.

Answer: Proud to be an American Woman

The actual title of Greenwood's song is "God Bless the U.S.A." but so many people refer to it as its "nicknamed" title of "Proud to be an American". This song has become a staple in American popular culture as a favorite song for 4th of July celebrations and sporting events. "American Woman" was a hit for The Guess Who in 1970.
7. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' song about a bandmate's death due to heroin and a big hit for Simon and Garfunkel.

Answer: Under the Bridge Over Troubled Water

"Under the Bridge" is from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' hit album "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik" of 1991, while "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was at the top of the charts for Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel in 1970.
8. If the Rolling Stones met Shania Twain, you would have "Baby You're a Rich Man I Feel Like a Woman".

Answer: False

The Beatles' (not the Rolling Stones) "Baby You're a Rich Man" debuted on U.S. charts in June of 1967, but its peak position was only 34. Shania Twain's girl-power anthem "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" is from her 1997 album "Come on Over."
9. Which two British rock groups' songs are joined in this back-to-back title: "Fat Bottomed Girls On Film" ?

Answer: Queen and Duran Duran

Queen's oddly-titled song, "Fat Bottomed Girls", was released in October, 1978, and reached a peak position of 24 on the U.S. charts. Duran Duran's catchy tune, "Girls On Film" was part of 1983's album "Seven and the Ragged Tiger".
10. Combine a fun, funk anthem by The Commodores from 1977 with a song by The Animals from 1964, and what do you get?

Answer: Brick House of the Rising Sun

Commodores' bassist Ron LaPread produces an amazing bass line in "Brick House" that remains a very well-known lick even today, over twenty years after its release. Here's a little-known fact about The Animals' song "House of the Rising Sun". You can interchange the lyrics and tune to "Rising Sun", "Amazing Grace" and the theme song to Gilligan's Island...kind of funny, really!
