Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the studio where PRIMUS recorded most of their music?

Answer: Rancho Relaxo

To my knowledge, Les Claypool owns it. You can take a virtual tour of the studios at Rancho Relaxo on the interactive CD-ROM "Tales From The Punchbowl". (You can also play on Herb's drum kit)
2. Who (or what) was credited for creating the clay sculptures pictured on most PRIMUS album sleeves?

Answer: Snap

The liner notes on the earlier album covers say: "Sculpture by Snap". It is my opinion that Snap is actually Mr. Claypool himself, by comparison of his drawings to the sculptures. I don't know if that's true, however.
3. What is Herb's real name? (He was the first of two drummers)

Answer: Tim Alexander

I don't really know why they called him Herb, except that Les likes to nickname his drummers.
4. What famous band did Les Claypool try out for before he founded PRIMUS?

Answer: Metallica

Les actually went to high school with Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammet. I read somewhere that when Metallica lost their bass player and auditioned Les, he played an Eisley Brothers tune. Metallica were not amused.
5. On the interactive CD-ROM "Rhinoplasty", what secret word will unlock the claymation video to "The Devil Went Down To Georgia"?

Answer: Violin

PRIMUS has a history of remaking great songs. "Rhinoplasty" and "Miscellaneous Debris" are both spectacular EP's containing mostly cover tunes from PRIMUS' favorite bands.
6. Every PRIMUS fan knows that Les Claypool is a great bass player... what famous luthier(guitar maker), or guitar company, constructed a one of a kind six-string for him?

Answer: Carl Thompson

Carl Thompson slaved over the guitar and building it "nearly killed him". Les Claypool says of Carl: "He makes a helluva chicken sandwich." It has been pointed out to me that Ron Blake (Carl Thompson's master luthier) actually built the guitar. The information I took the question from was in an old interview by Guitar For The Practicing Musician, Where Les issued the line about the chicken sandwich.
7. What was PRIMUS' only album to be certified platinum?

Answer: Pork Soda

This is an interesting fact because their most successful single releases came from "Seas of Cheese" and "Punchbowl".
8. PRIMUS' second drummer, Bryan Mantia, is more commonly known as:

Answer: Brain

More nicknames for drummers. Brain first appeared on PRIMUS' sixth album, "Brown".
9. The most successful PRIMUS albums were released by Interscope, a subsidiary of which major recording label?

Answer: Atlantic

At one time, the only two artists on the Interscope label were PRIMUS and Vanilla Ice. During the last PRIMUS concert I went to, Les Claypool told a story about being forced to sit behind Vanilla Ice at the Grammys, and how he stuck some goobers into the rapper's pompadour!
10. What phrase are audiences encouraged to chant during PRIMUS concerts?

Answer: You Suck!

Sometimes the chant morphs into "PRIMUS SUCKS!.
The chant really seems to envibe the band with energy. They feed off of the insult and do quite well, actually.
