quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. " ... da da da ... to funky ... la da da de da da junky ..."

Answer: Ashes to Ashes

A David Bowie song from the early 80's. He dressed up as a white-faced clown in the video, which may be why his career started to go downhill.
2. "... da da I said ... da da I did ... didden mean it ..."

Answer: Back for Good

It's only a few years since "Take That" were the biggest band in Britain, and now one of them's gone mad, one of them's on "Celebrity Big Brother", and no-one knows what the other three are doing. Think about that, Westlife.
3. " ... a hicker overheh lifters and forty ed burns oh yeah ..."

Answer: Greased Lightning

There was a documentary on TV recently showing where the various actors from "Grease" are now and what they look like. It was like "A Nightmare on Elm Street" with extra plastic. Fortunately, for me they will always be the fresh-faced teenagers (ahem) they were in 1977.
4. " da da moosh da da moosh la de da da fandango ... shabadaba lightning ... veddy veddy frightening ..."

Answer: Bohemian Rhapsody

As of November 2002, Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" is the third best selling single of all time in the UK. Fourth is "Mull of Kintyre", second is "Do they know it's Christmas?", and first (by a long way) is that dreadful Diana single. What a country.
5. "... coz liddle grrrls ged beeger avvrry day ..."

Answer: Thank Heavens for Little Girls

Maurice Chevalier's performance of "Thank Heavens for Little Girls", from the film "Gigi", was so memorable that it is now scientifically impossible to sing the song without adopting a heavy French accent - "Sank Evens Frr Leedle Grrrls".

There's a very memorable scene in "My Father the Hero" where everybody (wrongly) thinks that Gerard Depardieu is dating a girl about 30 years younger than him, and he inadvertently sings this song in front of them.
6. " ... da da da said it was easy ... ba ba shame for us to part ..."

Answer: The Scientist

From the fantastic new Coldplay album, "A Rush of Blood to the Head", which is so good that I have no annoying sarky remarks to make about it.
7. "Ba da ba da baby ... don't you cry ... boo doo doo daddy ... bound to die ..."

Answer: American Trilogy

There have been so many "Best of Elvis" albums in the UK that they'll soon have to make a "Best of Best of Elvis" album.
8. "... Ba ba ba hol soo swinging widda girls at school ... feefla up in the air ..."

Answer: Walk this Way

By Aerosmith and the sadly missed Run DMC.
9. "... Aaaaaah ... wudder if one day THAT you say THAT you care ... ba ba da ba da ba da da ... always be there ..."

Answer: Puppet on a String

This Sandie Shaw song won the Eurovision Song Contest. But then again, so did Celine Dion.
10. " ... Ba ba Five bad boys with the power to rock you ..."

Answer: Slam Dunk Da Funk

I actually don't mind this song, despite its ridiculous lyrics and even sillier title. The band who performed it, "5ive", were created by the same man who brought us the Spice Girls. I understand they are now Slam Dunk Defunct.
