Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. U2 performed at the Live-Aid concert for the starving people of Ethiopia. When was the Live-Aid concert?

Answer: July 13, 1985

This brain child of Bob Geldof of the Boomtown Rats raised both money and awareness for the starvation in Africa.
2. Live-Aid was held at two stadiums. At which one did U2 perform?

Answer: Wembley Stadium, London, England

It is generally accepted that U2 and Queen stole the show at the Wembley portion of Live-Aid. Note that Phil Collins played in London, jumped on the Concorde and flew to Philly to play in America on the same day.
3. At Live-Aid, U2 was scheduled to play 3 songs. However, they only played 2. Which two did they play?

Answer: "Sunday Bloody Sunday" & "Bad"

Apparently Bono and the band thought that the didn't perform all that well. How more wrong could they have been?
4. What was the scheduled 3rd song that they didn't play?

Answer: "Pride (In the Name of Love)"

"Bad" ended up taking almost 13 minutes (one of the great versions of my favorite song) and singing "Pride" would have exceeded U2's allotted time.
5. Bono has been quoted as saying that he is still quite embarrassed at one aspect of the performance at Live-Aid. What was he embarrassed about?

Answer: His hair

Ahhh...the mullet.
6. During one song, U2 broke into two Rolling Stones songs. Which songs were they?

Answer: "Sympathy for the Devil" & "Ruby Tuesday"

These are the standard Stones songs that U2 sings during "Bad".
7. During the same song, U2 broke into 2 Lou Reed/Velvet Underground songs. Which songs were they?

Answer: "Satellite of Love" & "Walk on the Wild Side"

No wonder "Bad" took too long.
8. What unusual thing did Bono do in the middle of one of the songs?

Answer: He jumped down by the audience and slow-danced with a fan.

Affectionately known as "The Leap."
9. What song did Bono sing/play on with other artists prior to Live-Aid in an attempt to raise money for the starving people in Ethiopia?

Answer: "Do they know it's Christmas?"

This was a song by Band-Aid. The American version, "We are the World" was sung by USA for Africa.
10. Here's a tough one. Although U2 performed on one side of the Atlantic, they were introduced during the simulcast by someone at the other concert. Which movie star introduced U2?

Answer: Jack Nicholson

Even though Jack was in Philly, he introduced U2 who were performing in London.
