Eugene Cernan was the eleventh person to walk on the Moon. He was the commander of Apollo 17, the last Apollo lunar landing, which landed on the Moon in December 1972. He served in the United States Navy before joining NASA. He was a pilot of Gemini 9A in 1966. He was also the lunar module pilot of Apollo 10 in 1969.

He was famous for hitting two golf balls on the surface of the Moon. He also holds the record of being the first American and second person to travel into space after Yuri Gagarin, when he piloted the spaceflight Mercury-Redstone 3.
