1. Who were King Henry III's paternal grandparents?

Answer: Henry II & Eleanor of Aquitaine

Henry was nineteen when he married Eleanor and their relationship, always stormy, eventually died. After Eleanor encouraged her children to rebel against their father in 1173, Henry had her placed under house-arrest, where she remained for sixteen years. Henry and Eleanor had eight children, William, Henry, Richard, Geoffrey, John, Matilda, Eleanor, and Joan.

Answer: William II & Henry I

William II reigned as King of England from September 9, 1087 when William the Conqueror died. He never married nor produced any children and was rumored to be a homosexual. He was later shot with an arrow in New Forest, England August 2, 1100 by William Tyrell. Henry I married his first wife, Edith of Scotland, daughter of King Malcolm III of Scotland, and she died on May 1, 1118.

She gave him two children: Matilda and William (who died young). His second wife Adeliza gave him no children so Henry had pursuaded the barons to accept his daughter Matilda as his heir.

Henry also produced 20 to 25 illegitimate children.

When it became quite obvious that she would never be crowned queen of England she left by walking across the frozen river in a white nightgown. Her son would later become King Henry II of England. Jane was chosen by John Dudley Duke of Northumberland to be King Edward VI's heir in order to maintain Protestantism.

She was claimed to have said, "No, the crown is not my right. It is The Lady Mary's" upon knowing she was now queen. She was married under duress to John Dudley's son Guilford Dudley whom she hated intensely.

She, Guilford, Cranmer and John Dudley were later executed in the early year of Queen Mary I's reign.

Richard was the son of The Black Prince of Wales who died during the reign of Edward III. Richard was married to Anne of Bohemia and lastly to Isabelle of Valois, neither of which produced any children. His second wife was eight years old at the time of the marriage. He died February 14, 1400 by starvation.

Mary married three times: Francis II of France, Henry Lord Darnley and James Earl of Bothwell. Only her second marriage produced a single child: James VI/I. She later abdicated shortly after marrying James Earl of Bothwell who died insane in a Danish prison.
James VI married Anne of Denmark and had several children one of whom was Charles I.
10. How were Mary Queen of Scots and Henry Lord Darnley related?

Answer: Grandchildren of Margaret Tudor

Mary was Margaret's grandchild via her first marriage to King James IV of Scotland. Darnley was her grandchild via her second marriage (of three marriages) to Archibald Douglas Earl of Angus.

King James II had a son named James who was christened into the Roman Catholic Church like his father. The country disliked Roman Catholicism (which at the time was regarded as a vehicle for monarchic absolutism) so they declared for his daughter Mary and her husband William who reigned jointly (till the death of Mary II).

The King of France declared James II's son James III upon James II's death but the boy was never be crowned and remained a pretender.
