2. According to the New King James Study Bible, the name Zechariah means what?

3. In Chapter two Zechariah had a vision. According to the NIV, who "will be a wall of fire around Jerusalem"?

Answer: The Lord

In the vision Zechariah saw a man with a measuring line (which, according to the ERV, is a rope for measuring things). Then an angel told another angel to tell the man that Jerusalem would not have any walls, "because of the great number of people and animals in it." Then in verse five, the Lord states he "will be a wall of fire around it."

4. In chapter 8 of Zechariah, (New King James Version), the prophet delivered a message given to him by the Lord God. God stated that when He returned to Zion to dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, what is ONE of the names by which the Holy City would be known?

Answer: The City of Truth

The entire eighth chapter tells of a future day of prosperity and peace in a well-populated, well-maintained Jerusalem. It speaks to the fact that even though God was forced to chastise Israel for her sins, He still held the nation in His heart, and the promised restoration would come to it.

5. Chapter 9 talks about the coming of a King entering the city of Zion. Which animal is he mentioned to be riding as found in the NIV?

Answer: a donkey

This is described in verse 9. A donkey was a lowly animal of peace, compared to the war horses mentioned in verse 10. Matthew quotes this passage in his gospel (21:4-5) as evidence that Jesus is the Messiah.

6. In the King James Version of the 4th chapter of Zechariah, he saw two olive trees. When he asked the angel nearby what they represented, how did the angel respond?

Answer: By initially not answering at all, by asking a question of his own, then by answering

We see in verses 11-14 that first the angel gave no answer at all prompting Zechariah to ask again. Next the angel asked him if he didn't know what they were and the response from Zechariah was in the negative; he did not know. Lastly, the angel informed him that "...These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth." (KJV)

7. In the 6th chapter of Zechariah we read of a man that is known by a certain title. By what CAPITALIZED term is this person called in verse 12 of the King James Version?

Answer: The BRANCH

Verse 12 continues by stating that this man will grow up out of his place, build the temple of the LORD and that he will bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne. It goes on further by stating that he will be a priest upon his throne with the counsel of peace being between them both.

Some Christians believe that this scripture is referring to Jesus.

The word "both" in this instance could be construed as being representative of God the father and God the son.

8. According to Zechariah 3, who was standing at the right hand of Joshua, the High Priest, to resist him? (King James Version)

Answer: Satan

It might be of interest to note that Joshua could be considered a "type" of representation of Christ in this passage, perhaps showing us a then-future event in which he had been taken off the cross and resurrected with the filth of the sins of the world all over him.

This at least, could be a fairly accepted interpretation of this passage of scripture.

In the 8th verse, the angel of the Lord includes this statement to Joshua: "...then thou shalt also judge my house..." seemingly as an indicator of a time yet-to-come. (KJV)

9. Where does the LORD say the cornerstone will come from in Zechariah 10:4 (NIV)?

Answer: Judah

In Revelation 5:5 (NIV) Jesus is called the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. In Acts 4:11 it says, "Jesus is "the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone." Therefore, based on these verses, many Christians believe that Zechariah 10:4 is a Messianic prophesy found in the Old Testament.

10. Zechariah 14 tells of a time when Jerusalem's former enemies will come to worship every year during the Feast of Tabernacles, or else face the threat of God withholding rain. In that time, what will be inscribed on the bells of the horses?

Answer: Holiness to the Lord

The New King James Study Bible explains that repentant nations that attacked Jerusalem will take part in celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles, a yearly Israelite festival recalling the 40-year journey in the wilderness.
