Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One specific player who was drafted in the first round, had his mind set on being drafted by a team whose hometown was populated by many people of his ethnic group, but he refused to talk to reporters after the draft, because he didn't go where he wanted to. Who is this man?

Answer: Yi Jianlian

Yi was hoping to go to Los Angeles, because he felt more comfortable and at home there. But, he was picked sixth by the Milwaukee Bucks. Yi Jianlian and Sun Yue were the only two Chinese players drafted in the 2007 NBA Draft.
2. This player may not have been the most well-known player drafted, but his father has the same name as an NBA player. Who is he?

Answer: Jared Jordan (Michael)

Jared Jordan was picked by the Los Angeles Clippers as the 45th overall draft pick. Jordan made many assists in the NCAA, leading the nation in assists during his third year at Marin.
3. Which of these players already had a brother in the NBA, who averaged 20.8 points in his 59 games during the 2006-07 season?

Answer: Marc Gasol

Marc Gasol of Spain was drafted 48th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Gasol averaged 10.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks in the ACB the year before he was drafted. He considered staying one more year in Spain during the offseason he was drafted. His brother is Pau Gasol.
4. Seattle was able to acquire both Kevin Durant and Jeff Green in the draft, but who did they trade along with their pick in the second round to Boston to obtain the fifth pick for Jeff Green?

Answer: Ray Allen

Seattle also got Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West in this trade. Rashard Lewis, however, was signed by the Orlando Magic a few days after the draft. Durant and Oden were considered to be the two automatic superstars in the draft at the time.
5. Which college was the first to have two players picked in the NBA Draft?

Answer: Ohio State

Greg Oden was drafted first overall, followed by Mike Conley Jr. at pick number four. Florida was the first team to have three players drafted: Al Horford (#3), Corey Brewer (#7), and Joakim Noah (#9). A total of five players came from the Florida Gators in the draft, and three came from the Ohio State Buckeyes.
6. Which of these teams had a pick in the NBA Draft?

Answer: New Jersey Nets

The Nets had the 17th pick in the NBA Draft, Sean Williams. Four teams did not have a draft pick. Those teams were the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets, and Toronto Raptors. Indiana would've had the 11th pick, but it was traded to Atlanta, who picked up point guard Acie Law with Indiana's pick. If it weren't for the teams trading them, Denver would own the 21st pick, Toronto would have had the 22nd, and Cleveland would've held the 24th pick.
7. One of the guards picked has an uncle who was MLB Hall of Famer, Ernie Banks, who played for the Chicago Cubs. Who was this great basketball player drafted in the first round?

Answer: Acie Law IV

Acie Law was picked 11th by the Atlanta Hawks, who already had picked third overall, Al Horford. Law averaged 18.1 points per game in his last year in Texas A&M, scoring at least twenty points in more than half of the 34 games he played. Ernie Banks was chosen MVP of the National League twice in the 1950s. In Banks' nineteen-year career in the MLB, he hit 512 home runs!
8. Anyone who watched the NBA Draft on television or at the site of the draft would know that Stephen A. Smith had an argument with Dick Vitale. What did Stephen A. Smith say that started this debate?

Answer: "This draft is not going to be as good as the 2003 draft."

Smith told the other announcers this and he later faced Vitale, who was telling him how this is a much better draft, because there are many possible superstars among the players. Vitale had forgiven him later, but Smith still had the same opinions, even after his fight with Dick Vitale.
9. It seems that fame runs in the blood for most draft picks, especially this player drafted out of Florida. His father, Yannick, is in the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and his mother, Cécilia Rodhe was in the running for Miss Universe. Who is this talented basketball player?

Answer: Joakim Noah

His father won the 1983 French Open, and his mother was crowned Miss Sweden five years before his father's victory. Yannick Noah was actually the first French tennis player to win the French Open since 1946! Cécilia Rodhe and Yannick Noah divorced in 1987, which was two years after Joakim was born. Cécilia may have been Miss Sweden 1978, but she spent most of her life living in Paris and New York City. Joakim Noah averaged 12 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in his third year at Florida. He was going to enter in the 2006 NBA Draft, but he soon decided against it, and stayed one more year in Florida.
10. What percentage of the players drafted, played internationally before they were selected?

Answer: 20%

12 of the 60 players drafted played outside of the United States. Four were selected in the first round, and eight were picked in the second. Yi Jianlian was the only one drafted, until Marco Belinelli was picked 18th overall.
