Don Larsen (born August 7, 1929) pitched the sixth perfect game in Major League history in game 5 of the 1956 World Series for the New York Yankees against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
2. Who was the oldest player of these to hit a pinch-hit home run in a postseason game?

Answer: Matt Stairs

On October 13, 2008 Matt Stairs hit a pinch home run in the National League playoffs. He was playing for the eventual World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was 40 years 229 days old. Second to him is Johnny Mize 39 years 270 days.
3. Who was the first baseball person to be awarded a gold record?

Answer: Phil Rizzuto

Phil Rizzuto (September 25, 1917 to August 13, 2007) was awarded the gold record for his participation in Meatloaf's recording of "Paradise By the Dashboard Light". Phil provided the play by play in the background of the song. Rizzuto played shortstop for the Yankees from 1941 to 1956 and was one of their broadcasters from 1956 (briefly) to 1996.

He was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1994.
4. St. Louis Cardinal pitcher Bob Gibson played for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Gibson (born November 9, 1935) was a pretty good hoops player, and was signed by the Trotters and the St. Louis Cardinals. He played several games with the Globies in 1957 before dedicating himself solely to baseball. Gibson was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981.
5. Before Nolan Ryan became President of the Texas Rangers in 2008, who was the last Baseball Hall of Famer to hold a club presidency before him?

Answer: Christy Mathewson

Nolan Ryan (born January 31, 1947) became the Rangers President in 2008. Ryan was inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1999. Christy Mathewson (August 12, 1880 to October 7, 1925) was part-time President of the Boston Braves in 1923. Mathewson was one of the first five baseball players inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1936.

The pitcher was Bob Feller (November 3, 1918 to December 15, 2010) then a student at Van Meter High School in Iowa. Feller was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962.

Answer: Johnny Callison

It had to be the inning from Hades for the A's. There were nine walks, a hit batter and three errors. Callison (March 12, 1939 to October 12, 2006) got the only hit, a single. The game took place on April 22, 1959, and the White Sox won it 20-6.
8. What Phillies pitcher boasted he would pick off the first batter to reach first base against him?

Answer: Art Mahaffey

Mahaffey (born June 4, 1938) made that claim. Art then proceeded to not only pick off the first runner, Bill White of the St. Louis Cardinals, but also Curt Flood, the second runner to reach first base.
9. What team in 1929 was the first team in Major League Baseball to put numbers on the back of their uniforms during the regular season?

Answer: Cleveland Indians

The Indians first experimented in 1916 by putting numbers on their player's sleeves. In 1929, the Indians were first because the Yankees were rained out on Opening Day.
10. What player represented his team in an All-Star Game even though he never played for that team?

Answer: Jeff Shaw

Jeff Shaw (born July 7, 1966) was a member of the Cincinnati Reds in 1998 when he was selected for the All-Star Game. He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the beginning of the All-Star break so the first game he pitched as a Dodger was in that game.
