Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which driver for Brazil, achieved the country's hallmark 100th Grand Prix win, and when?

Answer: Rubens Barrichello, Valencia 2009

Rubens won the 2009 European Grand Prix on board a Brawn BGP001. Massa's historical win in the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix was #99, and it took 11 GP's for the next Brazilian win, #100.
2. Which of the following Brazilian F1 drivers have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans?

Answer: None listed

Carlos Pace raced for Ferrari in the 1970s, Raul Boesel raced for Jaguar in the 1980s, and Piquet raced for McLaren in the 1990s. These were the most expressive Brazilian entries in the la Sarthe classic, but neither clinched the title.
3. Aside from the Brazilian Grand Prix, Brazil has had two other non-championship F1 races. Where did they take place?

Answer: Interlagos & Brasilia

The first non-championship race was the first Brazilian Grand Prix, held in Interlagos at the end of the 1972 season, and won by Carlos Reutemann (Brabham). The second Brazilian GP in 1973 would count points for the championship. Later in 1974, another non-championship race was held in Brazil, this time in Brasilia, in the raceway now called 'Nelson Piquet'.

It was won by Emerson Fittipaldi (McLaren).
4. What was the first F1 Grand Prix won by a Brazilian driver?

Answer: 1970 United States

There were GP wins by Brazilians before the F1 championship was unveiled, the most famous one being the 1948 Bari Grand Prix, won by Chico Landi (Maserati). But the first F1 win would come in 1970, in Watkins Glen, by Emerson Fittipaldi (Lotus).
5. When was the first time at least two Brazilian drivers took the podium in the same Grand Prix?

Answer: Emerson Fittipaldi & Carlos Pace - 1975 Brazilian GP

In the 1975 Brazilian Grand Prix, Carlos Pace (Brabham) took the win, with reigning World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi (McLaren) taking second place. It was also the first 1-2 finish by Brazilians. They were to repeat the joint podium weeks later in Monaco, with Fittipaldi 2nd and Pace 3rd.
6. Which Grand Prix has 3-time Brazilian world champion Ayrton Senna never won?

Answer: France

The French Grand Prix was held in Paul Ricard and later in Magny-Cours in Ayrton's career spam. He would never claim victory in the home of his arch-rival, Alain Prost.
7. When was the first time at least two Brazilian drivers won GPs in the same season?

Answer: 1975 - Emerson Fittipaldi & Carlos Pace

Fittipaldi (McLaren) took two 1975 wins in Buenos Aires and Brands Hatch, while Pace (Brabham) took one win in Interlagos.
8. Brazilian drivers became World Champion in both the first and last turbo-charged titles. Who were they, and when did they win?

Answer: Nelson Piquet 1983 & Ayrton Senna 1988

Piquet debuted with the turbo-charged BMW Brabham in 1982, but would only win the title in 1983. It was followed by Lauda and Prost, with turbo-charged Porsche-built TAG-badged engines, and by himself in a turbo Honda.
Senna won the last turbo title with the Honda-powered McLaren in 1988.
In 1989, turbo-charging and super-charging were banned from F1.
9. 3-time World Champion Nelson Piquet has climbed the podium (the same or in different occasions) alongside both other Brazilian F1 champions, Senna and Fittipaldi.

Answer: True

Piquet and Fittipaldi shared the podium at the 1980 United States GP West, in Long Beach. He shared the podium with Senna on various occasions, from 1985 to 1987.
10. Only two international drivers drove for Copersucar, the first Brazilian F1 team ever. Who were they?
