Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Peyton Manning became the first Colt quarterback to throw 6 TD passes in a single game. In fact, he's done it more than once. What 2 Colt quarterbacks held the previous team record of 5 TD passes in a single game?

Answer: Gary Cuozzo & Gary Hogeboom

Cuozzo had his big day at Minnesota on Nov 4, 1965, when he filled in for an injured Johnny Unitas. He spent 10 seasons in the NFL including 4 in Baltimore. He later made the Super Bowl as a back up QB for the Vikings in Super Bowl IV. In 1987, Hogeboom was an NFL veteran of 7 seasons.

The NFL Players went on strike, but Hogeboom crossed the picket line and led a group of replacement players to a victory in Buffalo on October 1, 1987. He retired after a final season with the Cardinals. He later resurfaced on TV's "Survivor".
2. Which of these great running backs once scored 20 touchdowns for the Colts in a single season?

Answer: Lenny Moore

In 1964, Lenny Moore set a new NFL record by scoring 20 touchdowns. He was one of the first running backs to also be featured in the passing game. He could do it all. He finished his career with 5,174 rushing yards and 6,039 receiving yards and 113 touchdowns. His #24 jersey was retired by the Colts. He was elected to the Hall of fame in 1975.
3. Which of these great running backs once totaled an incredible 2,303 yards from scrimmage for the Colts in a single season?

Answer: Edgerrin James

In 2000, James ran for 1,709 yards and caught passes for another 594 yards. He also exceeded 2000 yards from scrimage in 1999 and 2004, but 2000 was his best year. Faulk totaled 2,227 yards from scrimmage in 1998 and Dickerson tallied 2,036 in 1988.
4. Colt All-Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney and Colt All-Pro wide receiver Marvin Harrison went to which the same college?

Answer: Syracuse University

Many people think of Syracuse as a basketball school, but they have produced a number of very good NFL playeres. In addition to Harrison and Freeney, other "Orangemen" include Jim Brown, Larry Csonka, Floyd Little, Donovan McNabb, John Mackey, Daryl "Moose" Johnston, Donovan Darius, Keith Bullock, Tebucky Jones, and more.
5. In Super Bowl V, the Colts beat the Cowboys 16-13 when rookie kicker Jim O'Brien kicked a field goal in the closing seconds. During his career, O'Brien also played which other position?

Answer: Wide receiver

Jim O'Brien only played in the NFL for 4 seasons, but what he did in Super Bowl V will let his career live forever. He wore number 80 and was a back-up wide receiver. 1972 was his most productive receiving year. He caught 11 passes for 2 touchdowns. After 3 seasons with the Colts, he followed Colt Super Bowl winning coach Don McCafferty to Detroit for one last year and then retired.
6. Only 2 teams have won division or conference championships in every decade from the 1950s through 2000s. The Colts are one. Who is the other?

Answer: The Rams

Only twelve 2007 franchises dated back to the 1950s. They are the Rams, the Colts, the Eagles, the Browns, the Steelers, the Cardinals, the Bears, the Packers, the Lions, the 49ers, the Redskins, and the Giants.
7. In 2003, the Colts became the first team in NFL history to overcome a 21-point deficit with less then 4 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. What team did they beat?

Answer: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It was a Monday Night Football game and as such, most of America turned off their TVs and went to bed when Tampa went up 35-14 late in the game. They all missed one the greatest comebacks in NFL history. Adding to the drama was the fact that it was head coach Tony Dungy's birthday and his first time returning to coach against his old team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were just coming off their first Super Bowl victory and were sporting the best defense in the NFL.
8. Hard hitting Colt Safety Bob Sanders and talented Tight End Dallas Clark were teammates at what college?

Answer: Iowa

They were both Hawkeyes and became the Colts top draft pick in successive drafts. Clark was taken in 2003 with the 24th pick. Sanders was selected in 2004 with the 44th pick. Both became starters immediately and later helped lead the Colts to Super Bowl XLI.
9. In 2000, the "NFL Hall of Fame Selection Committee" chose it's all-time NFL Team. The 11 offensive players featured 3 Colts. No other team had more then 1 offensive player. Which of these Colt legends was not selected to that team?

Answer: Raymond Berry

Berry was not selected for wide receiver. That honor went to Don Hutson and Jerry Rice. Jim Parker is widely considered the greatest offensive lineman off all-time. John Mackey was a huge tight end that had great hands and speed. That size and power made him a defensive backs worst nightmare. Nobody wanted to tackle him.

He was the first big man to become a deep threat. Johnny Unitas quite simply, "invented modern quarterback play".
10. Who was the first Colt to return 3 interceptions for a touchdown in a single season?

Answer: Ray Buchanan

"Big Play Ray" spent 4 years with the Colts. 1994 was the year he scored 3 TDs on interceptions. Ray also helped take the Colts to the brink of the Super Bowl following the 1995 season, but the Colts fell just short, losing the AFC Championship game to Pittsburgh 20-16.
