1. The Portland Trailblazers are Oregon's NBA team. What year did they win their first NBA championship?

Answer: 1977

The Portland Trailblazers defeated the Philadelphia 76'ers in the 1977 NBA Finals, 4 games to 2. They accomplished this feat only 7 years after joining the NBA, in 1970. They also made it to the finals against Detroit in 1990 and Chicago in 1992.
2. The Portland Trailblazer teams of the 1990s played Detroit and Chicago in the NBA Finals. Who was the leader of their 1990s team?

Answer: Clyde Drexler

Clyde Drexler was a draft pick for Portland in 1983. He was an NBA all-star for 10 seasons (8 with Portland), and took Porland to the NBA finals twice. He was a member of the 1992 US Olympic Dream Team that won the gold medal in Barcelona, Spain.
3. What is the name of Oregon's Western Hockey league team?

Answer: Portland Winterhawks

The Portland Winterhawks joined the WHL in 1976. They won the Memorial Cup in 1983, and again in 1998, and have had several players drafted into the NHL. They have had a longstanding rivalry with the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Gary Payton led the Beavers to the NCAA tournament in 1990, and was drafted later that year by Seattle. He spent 18 seasons in the NBA from 1990-2007, and was a 9 time NBA all-star.

9. What is the name of the USFL (United States Football League) team that attempted to make it in Portland during the 1985 season?

Answer: Portland Breakers

In 1985, the USFL attempted to move the New Orleans Breakers to Portland, to try and play in a location not competing directly with the NFL during a fall season. They finished 6-12 and as a consequence, never played another season. As it turned out, the USFL as a whole went defunct the same year after only a 3-year run trying to compete against the NFL.
10. Name the first college player to play at a state of Oregon university that won the Heisman Trophy.

Answer: Terry Baker---Oregon State University, 1962

In 1962, Terry Baker won the coveted Heisman Trophy, as Oregon State's quarterback, completing 4980 yards of total offense. He was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in 1982. Several other Oregonians have been in the running, including Joey Harrington, and Ken Simonten in 2001, but to no avail.

In 2007, University of Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon was in very serious contention until a severe knee injury took him out for the season.
