Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What building did the Sens play in 2003?

Answer: Corel Centre

The Sens played their first few seasons in the 10,500- capacity Civic Centre, until their arena (originally called The Palladium) was completed. The name was changed to Corel Centre after the building was bought by Corel.
2. Which Senators player accidentally struck then Toronto Defenceman Bryan Berard, in the eye during the 2000 Stanley Cup Playoffs?

Answer: Marian Hossa

Berard made a miraculous comeback 2 years later with the New York Rangers.
3. Who did the Sens get in exchange for Andre Roy a few days before the trade deadline in 2002?

Answer: Juha Ylonen

The trade was with The Tampa Bay Lightning.
4. Jacques Martin is the only coach the Sens have ever had?

Answer: False

Jacques has been nominated for the Jack Adams award 3 times and has won it once. He was an assistant coach in Salt Lake City 2002. While he has not been the Sens' only head coach, he is indisputably the best coach to date, and we're all sorry to see him go. But alas, it's time for a change!
5. Which goalie was briefly a member of the team, in 2000?

Answer: Tom Barasso

Barasso was acquired at the trade deadline that year for the playoffs. It didn't help much, as the Sens were out in round one.
6. Which of the following has never been a Sens captain?

Answer: Jason York

Boschman was the captain for the Sens first season, and retired after that season. Cunneyworth was the captain for 4 seasons, and when he left the team in 1997, Alexei Yashin took over the role. During Yashin's contract dispute, Alfredsson became captain while Yashin sat the season out.
7. What team did the Ottawa Senators beat in Round Two of the 2003 Stanley Cup Playoffs, to advance to Round 3 for the first time?

Answer: Philadelphia Flyers

They beat the Flyers in 6 games, and went on to face the Devils in Round 3.
8. What was the unofficial nickname voted on by Ottawa's citizens, to give to the old line-up of Alfredsson, Yashin, and McEachern?

Answer: The Ministry of Offense

It received the most votes in a city-wide poll.
9. Who of the following has played over 1000 games as an Ottawa Senator?

Answer: Daniel Alfredsson

Alfredsson played his 1000th career game, all of them as a Senator, in 2010. Alfredsson had previously broken Bonk's record for longest serving Senator, who in turn had taken over the title from Alexei Yashin.
10. The old Ottawa Senators franchise left town in 1933. But what were they known as during the first few years of the 20th century?

Answer: Ottawa Silver Seven

The Silver Seven have been called the best team to ever play in the league. They won several Stanley Cups and had great team records. There is a street in Ottawa called Silver Seven Rd., adjoining to Palladium Dr. (where the Corel Centre is located). The Ottawa 67s are an OHL team.
