Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas are a hugely successful duo in the Grand Am Series. They were tough to beat during the previous 8 years for a championship. Another thing that separates Sports Car racing from other racing is the team aspect. There are two to four drivers for each car depending on the length of the race.

A normal race is 2.5 hrs to 3 hrs and they have 2 drivers trading off in the car. But they also have long races. There is a 6 hr. race and even a 24 hr. race, which is the first race of the year in Daytona Beach, FL.

The long races will have more drivers trading off throughout the race. It isn't uncommon to find Sprint Cup drivers competing in the 24 hr. race as well.

Dale Earnhardt won the Championship in this series 4 times. He won in 1990, 1995, 1999 and 2000 before his death in February 2001. This series showcased drivers from NASCAR, IndyCar, World of Outlaws, Drag Racing and Sports Car Racing. The series had several flaws.

It had years when only oval tracks were used and this obviously favored the NASCAR drivers. It also included road courses for several years but the NASCAR guys still did the best. There were a few winners outside NASCAR but not many. In 2006, the series was on its way out and it 2007 it ran out of money.
