Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What happened to the children of Captain Watari Yuuki of "The Galaxy Railways" in the series' debut episode?

Answer: They stowed away aboard the space train

The plot had an adventurous beginning, but a tragic ending. When the train was attacked by a strange ship, Yuuki had to save the train by moving everyone else to the rear cars, then detaching his own vehicle and piloting it directly into the alien craft. The kids and passengers were saved; Yuuki did not survive the impact.
2. Which of the following was based on a classic Chinese novel?

Answer: The Romance of the Three Kingdoms

"The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" was written by Luo Guanzhong in the 14th century. It was made into a popular anime feature in the 1980s, as well as a video game.
3. What 1980s series based on a classic epic poem first aired in the United States on Spanish-language television stations?

Answer: Ulysses

The show recast the hero of "The Odyssey" as a space captain who roamed the universe and fought off the forces of evil. Like the hero of the epic poem, the new leader faced dangerous challenges at every turn, only on different planets in each episode.
4. What two-part production, about a samurai who fought demons, earned viewer wrath because its advertising made it look like a sequel to another show, when in fact it was not?

Answer: Ninja Resurrection

"Ninja Resurrection" had a logo similar to that of "Ninja Scroll," and the heroes had the same name (Jubei). However, the features were otherwise unrelated. That didn't stop studio Phoenix Animation from creating some highly confusing publicity. In the anime fan community, this earned Phoenix a great deal of scorn.
5. A 1970s show about a cyborg who battles robots bent on world domination was released in the U.S. with an incorrect title. What was this American name?

Answer: Casshan

The real name, used in Japan, was "Shinzo Ningen Casshern", or just "Casshern" for short. The mistaken spelling in U.S. publicity was never corrected, even in subsequent video releases.
6. What popular series profiles the adventures of a tofu delivery driver?

Answer: Initial D

The character's name is Takumi Fujiwara, and he turned his driving skills into success on the street racing scene. His knack for winning "drift" battles earned him hordes of new fans in the United States, where the import car scene is very strong.
7. What unscrupulous spy and hitman character, with a series named after him, was called the "Japanese James Bond"?

Answer: Golgo 13

The character made his debut in a manga series in 1969, and on film in 1983. To preserve his "cover," he never tells anyone his real name.
8. What series about a team of junior high school athletes centered on a younger student who won a place on the upperclassmen's team?

Answer: The Prince of Tennis

The show began, as many others, with a manga series in Japan, then became a television series. It became extremely popular there, resulting in the release of more than 100 soundtrack CDs. In 2006, it began airing in the U.S. on Cartoon Network.
9. What series is about a group of assassins who work out of a flower shop?

Answer: Weiss Kruz

The name means "White Cross" in German, and should have been spelled "Weisses Kruz," but the name with the error stuck. The shop is called "The House of Kittens."
10. What popular 2004 film about a unique magical traveler was based on a novel by Diana Wynne Jones?

Answer: Howl's Moving Castle

Jones is an English author. The 2004 movie version of her book proved widely popular in the U.S. and Japan.
