Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Man who was "Minbari not born of Minbari."

Answer: Sinclair

Commander Jeffrey Sinclair was recalled to Earth after President Santiago was killed. From there he was sent to Minbar to be the EA Ambassador. There he became Entil'Zha and commanded the Rangers. In season 3, he returned to the station briefly so that Delenn, Sheridan, Marcus, Zathras and the White Star could go get Babylon 4 from the time rift in Sector 14. Sinclair then took Babylon 4 back 1,000 in time to give the station to the Minbari, who were losing the first Shadow War.
2. Zathras called this man "The One Who Will Be."

Answer: Sheridan

In "War Without End," Zathras calls Sinclair, Sheridan and Delenn "The One." When asked what he meant, Zathras replied that Sinclair was "The One Who Was," Delenn "The One Who Is" and Sheridan "The One Who Will Be."
3. Name of the species that was working against the Vorlons. Delenn once described them as "the ancient of the ancients."

Answer: Shadows

The Shadow vessels had such a sound that when a ship would pass by, the people could 'hear' the vessels in their minds. It was said to be a terrible screaming sound. In the end, it turned out that the Shadows and Vorlons had been left behind to help the younger races grow.

The Vorlons believed that peace was the way to help them learn while the Shadows believed that war helped the races grow. The majority of the series focused on this problem until Lorien took both Shadows and Vorlons beyond the Rim with him.
4. Name of the President who was elected (and assassinated) in the first season.

Answer: Santiago

Ivanova didn't vote for him. President Luis Santiago was assassinated by people working for then-Vice President Clark. Earth Force One (the President's ship) exploded near the transfer point at Io. Clark had said he was ill and therefore was not on the ship when it exploded.
5. Woman who was Sinclair's fiancee and was rescued at one point by the Narn.

Answer: Sakai

Catherine Sakei used to do some planetary mapping with her ship, the Skydancer. At one point, she went to Sigma 957 to survey the area and had to be rescued by the Narn. When we first see her in the series, we find out that she and Sinclair had been very on-again, off-again partners.

At one point, they decide to become engaged and ask Ivanova to be Catherine's maid of honor. She disappeared around 2261, which in one novel ("To Dream in the City of Sorrows") says she went to Minbar to be with Sinclair until she was pulled back in time to about when Valen arrived.
6. City on Earth which was destroyed by terrorists with nuclear weapons.

Answer: San Diego

It's also where Bureau 13 (which morphed into the Night Watch and Home Guard) was supposed to be based. The area is not supposed to be inhabitable until 2350. Also, Garibaldi once visited the area.
7. First name of "Jack the Ripper" as seen in "Comes the Inquisitor."

Answer: Sebastian

He vanished in 1888 and was taken by the Vorlons. Kept in stasis until he was needed, he was used by them to test those who were believed to be the 'chosen ones'. In 2259, he came aboard the station to test Delenn. While he was torturing her, Lennier told Sheridan who then went and rescued Delenn - proving that they were both willing to sacrifice themselves for the cause.

As Sebastian left the station, he tells Sheridan that he hoped the Vorlons would now let him alone and let him die.

9. Minbari who joined Delenn in the Starfire Wheel but would not sacrifice himself.

Answer: Shakiri

Shakiri swould not sacrifice himself though he asked those under him to sacrifice their own lives. After Shakiri left the Starfire Wheel, Delenn stayed in to make a point. Neroon (Shakiri's second) saw this and went into the wheel to save Delenn. At the moment when he was going to die, Neroon said that the calling of his heart was Religious Caste, which made the Religious caste the 'winner' as it was a member of their caste which was sacrificed.
10. Narn blood oath. Once given, it cannot be taken back.

Answer: Shankar

If the person who says a Shankar dies, it is up to their family members to carry out the oath.
11. What the Minbari call John Sheridan after he destroyed their flagship during the Earth-Minbari War.

Answer: Starkiller

Sheridan destroyed the Black Star by mining asteroids with nuclear weapons. The Minbari considered such an act 'dishonorable' and the humans used this as a rallying point. Sheridan became the only person who had ever won a fight against the Minbari. In one episode, EA vessels are at the station to take control when Delenn jumps into normal space with some Minbari ships.

She tells the humans that the only person who ever successfully fought the Minbari was behind her "and you are in front of me. Be somewhere else." Sheridan later told her that that was one of the best moments of his life.
12. How the bear which was dressed to look like Sheridan and sold in the Babylon Emporium was killed.

Answer: spacing

Sheridan and Lt. Keffer were the only two (that we know of) who knew the fate of the bear. Sheridan because he is the one who spaced the bear and Lt. Keffer encountered the bear in space while in his star fury. Lt. Keffer was asked to describe the object he encountered and said "No way, not on a bet." Some fans of the show call the bear "Star Furry." Spacing is used as a punishment by the EA only in cases of treason or insurrection.
13. What Franklin became addicted to.

Answer: Stims

He kept trying to do more work and took the Stims so he could work longer with less rest. Garibaldi eventually became so concerned he asked to check Franklin's blood records. When shown the evidence of his addiction, Franklin resigned and went on a 'walkabout' to try and find himself again.
14. Former husband of Talia Winters who came to the station in order to try and get her back.

Answer: Stoner

In "Soul Mates," Matthew Stoner comes to the station and tells Talia that he had 'lost' his telepathic powers due to some experiments that the Psi Corps did on him. In reality, he was turned into an empath who could project his emotions onto other people.
15. Drugs used to suppress telepathic abilities.

Answer: sleepers

Ivanova's mother took them so that she would not have to join Psi Corps. Although the sleepers suppress the abilities, it also usually brings on depression. Ivanova's mother ended up killing herself because of this.
16. Commander of the Minbari war cruiser Trigati, this person refused to surrender at the Battle of the Line.

Answer: Sineval

Sineval committed suicide and Kalain led the crew during its more than 10 years of exile, becoming martyrs to some Minbari.
17. Name of Catherine Sakai's ship.

Answer: Skydancer

She was rescued from Sigma 957 by the Narn while surveying the area in her ship.
18. Last name of the man who was the first human ever to fight in the Mutai.

Answer: Smith

Walker Smith, a friend of Garibaldi's, was a boxer who decided to jump-start his career by fighting in the Mutai. After having gotten help from a man maned Caliban, he was able to compete.
19. Last name of the woman who was the member of the Icarus and came to Babylon 5 in order to get Sheridan to become allies with the Shadows.

Answer: Sheridan

Anna Sheridan, long-thought to be dead and the wife of Captain Sheridan, returned to bring him to Z'Ha'Dum. Although warned by Kosh ("If you go to Z'Ha'Dum, you will die"), Delenn (who, in a future-flash said "Do not go to Z'Ha'Dum") and Franklin (who said that Anna had been 'altered' by the Shadows), he went with her anyway, taking the White Star (although he armed the ship with 2 tactical nuclear weapons). Once there, he realised what was going on and told the ship to destroy the Shadow city. At the last moment, he heard the voice of Kosh who told him to "jump. Jump now." After jumping, Sheridan was 'given back' 20 years of his life by Lorien, the first First One.
20. Title given to a member of the Grey Council.

Answer: Satai

When Lennier first arrives, he calls Delenn "Satai." As she did not want this information out, she quickly tells him never to mention that word again. After all, it would look quite suspicious if a member of Minbar's ruling body was a lowly ambassador to some far-flung space station.
