Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the episode, "The Voice of Christmas", Carol loses her voice as the holiday approaches. Cindy asks Santa Claus to restore Carol's voice. Which song is Carol able to sing at the Christmas service?

Answer: 'O Come, All Ye Faithful

"'O Come, All Ye Faithful" originated in the 18th century with Latin lyrics as "Adeste Fideles". Cindy asked a Santa Claus she encountered in a department to store to help her mother out. Mike later confronts "Santa" and reprimands him for building up the hopes of a young child.

The episode concludes with Carol able to sing at church. Clips from the episode were shown in the 1988 television movie "A Very Brady Christmas". "The Voice of Christmas" was the 12th episode of season one and aired on December 19, 1969.
2. In the episode "54-40 or Fight", the Brady kids want to redeem their collected trading stamps for a gift. When the kids can not agree on a gift, they decide to hold a competition. Which activity do they use for the competition?

Answer: Building a house of cards

"54-40 or Fight" was the 15th episode of season one and aired on January 09, 1970. The reason why it is so urgent to redeem the stamps is that the store is about to close down. The kids do not have enough stamps to get two items and they are not able to compromise when the boys want a rowboat and the girls want a sewing machine. For several tension-filmed minutes of the episode, the kids take turns building a house of cards.

While Jan's charm bracelet almost knocks down the cards, the boys end up losing when Tiger the dog crashes into the table (knocking down the house of cards) during their turn. All ends happily as the girls ultimately decide to purchase a new color television that all of the kids can use.
3. In the episode "A Fistful of Reasons", Peter is trying to protect his sister Cindy from being teased by bully Buddy Hinton. What is the reason Buddy has for teasing Cindy?

Answer: having a lisp

Buddy tells Cindy "Baby talk, baby talk. It's a wonder you can walk" multiple times after she has difficulty pronouncing some words. Buddy is seemingly immune to reason and insists on fighting Peter after he tells Buddy to stop. The first fight ends with Peter receiving a black eye.

After some time passes, in a second fight, Peter accidentally hits Buddy in the mouth, knocking out a tooth and leaving Buddy struggling to pronounce certain words. When Cindy and the others laugh at Buddy and mock him, Peter angrily tells them to stop since that makes them no better than Buddy. "A Fistful of Reasons" aired on November 13, 1970 and was the eight episode of season two (and the 33rd episode overall).
4. In a mid-second season episode (the title would be a clue), Greg's friend Tommy pressures him to do something of which Mike and Carol would disapprove. Which offense, which Cindy and Jan witness, does Greg commit?

Answer: He smokes a cigarette

Cindy and Jan see Greg smoke a cigarette in the episode "Where There's Smoke..." This is the 14th episode of season two (and the 39th overall) and aired on January 08, 1971. After Greg assures his parents that he did not enjoy smoking and will not do it again, Carol finds a pack of cigarettes in the pocket of Greg's jacket. Alice is able to determine that the jacket is not Greg's but Tommy's.

This is ironic since Tommy's mother is the leader of a local anti-smoking campaign.
5. To open the third season, in a three episode arc including the episode "Ghost Town USA", the Brady family visit a well-known natural feature in the Western US. Which location is the destination of their trip?

Answer: Grand Canyon

The family's ultimate destination is the Grand Canyon, where much of the action of the second and third episodes takes place. The episodes ("Ghost Town USA", "Grand Canyon or Bust", and "The Brady Braves") aired between September 17 and October 01, 1971 and were the 50th-52nd episodes overall of the series.

The episode shows the family descending into the Grand Canyon via mules. Before they arrive at the Grand Canyon, the family finds themselves locked in the jail of an abandoned ghost town by an old prospector who believed they were trying to steal his gold.

This was one of several long-distance vacations that the Bradys took during the run of the show.
6. In the episode "Dough Re Mi", Greg is trying to earn some money to buy studio time to make a record. He decides to have the six siblings form a music group. Which is one of the songs that they perform in the episode, taking advantage of Peter's special "talent"?

Answer: Time to Change

"Dough Re Mi" aired on January 14, 1972 and was the 16th episode of season three and the 65th episode overall. A subplot of the episode is Peter's voice is changing. The song "Time to Change" also him to use the "cracking" of his voice to humorous effect. (Actor Christopher Knight, who played Peter, was unhappy with this episode as he felt it mocked his limited singing ability.) The other song featured in this episode was "We Can Make The World A Whole Lot Brighter". Songs by the various Brady kids would appear in several other episodes.
7. In the episode "Everyone Can't Be George Washington", Peter is disappointed to not be cast as George Washington in the school play. Which role does he receive instead?

Answer: Benedict Arnold

Peter is unhappy to have been cast as Benedict Arnold when he hoped to be cast as the hero. His unhappiness only increases when his friends tease him and call him "traitor". In the end, he actually receives praise from the audience for doing well in the role. "Everyone Can't Be George Washington" aired on December 22, 1972 and was the 12th episode of season four (and the 84th overall).
8. In the episode "Bobby's Hero", Mike and Carol find out that Bobby has developed an admiration for a figure from US History. Who is the new focus for Bobby's admiration?

Answer: Jesse James

When Mike and Carol attempt to convince Bobby that Jesse James is not a hero, the books and movies that they show him are unfortunately censored and don't tell the whole story. It takes a visit from the son of one of the victims of Jesse James to convince Bobby that his admiration was misplaced.

In a later dream sequence, Bobby imagines Jesse James shooting his family while they are traveling on a train. "Bobby's Hero" aired on February 02, 1973 and was the 17th episode of season four and the 89th overall.

Sam the Butcher (portrayed by Allen Melvin) was the on and off boyfriend of Alice. In the episode, the family successfully meets their goal of raising money for a retirement gift for a retiring teacher. "Snow White and the Seven Bradys" was the third episode of season five (the 98th overall) and aired on September 28, 1973.
10. The final episode of the series, "The Hair-Brained Scheme," takes place around the time of Greg's graduation from high school. Which member of Greg's family was infamously absent from graduation and the episode?

Near the end of episode, Carol mentions that it is a shame that Mike has missed the ceremony (being away on "business").

In reality, Robert Reed (Mike's actor) had clashed with the producers one time too many, leading them to write him out of the episode (and off the show). "The Hair-Brained Scheme" was the 22nd episode of season five (117th overall) and aired on March 8, 1974.
