Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first Detour of the race was in Singapore. Did all teams complete the same task?

Answer: Yes

Teams headed into the first Detour of the race at Suntec City in Singapore with gusto. Here, they all chose to complete the 'Dare' task by pulling themselves along a rope from the top of one skyscraper to another. Had they not done this task they would've had to complete 'Stair', climbing the staircases of one tower to the top, then climbing down, then climbing the other to get their clue.

After this Detour, teams flew to the Philippines for the remainder of the leg.
2. In Leg 3 in New Zealand, a number of teams faced difficulty with which Detour task, opting to switch to the other?

Answer: 'Wall'

Arriving in Auckland in Leg 3, teams had to visit the Howick Historical Village before completing a bungee-jumping Road Block task off Auckland Bridge. After this, teams could either choose a task involving an indoor rock climbing wall (completed by Marc and Rovilson and Adrian and Collin) or a task called 'Waka' involving paddling outrigger canoes on Lake Pupuke. Most teams completed this task as the rock wall proved too difficult for many. Brett and Kinarsoyih completed neither of the tasks as one had closed before their arrival and the other was too physically demanding for the latter.

They were eliminated in this leg.
3. Which team did not complete the Detour task in Rotorua in Leg 4?

Answer: Sophie and Aurelia

In Leg 4, teams needed to drive themselves from Auckland to Rotorua completing adrenaline-fueled tasks along the way. At the end of the leg, teams completed a Detour in the Maori village of Te Puia. In 'Flax', teams had to weave flax leaves into a traditional headband and in 'Sticks' they had to perform a Maori training game involving wooden sticks. Sophie and Aurelia didn't complete the Detour (or the Road Block) since they were too far behind the other teams.

They were eliminated at Okere Falls Scenic Reserve, many hours behind the other teams due to a late check-in in the Pit Stop for Leg 3.
4. In Leg 5, how many teams completed the 'You Cart It' Detour task in Japan?

Answer: Four

The fifth leg of the race was held in two parts, the first was in Japan and the second was in South Korea. In the first half, teams raced through Tokyo, Japan in the evening, taking on challenges which sent them through the city streets. In 'You Cart It', teams had to deliver an outfit from a dry cleaning location to a nearby address to collect their next clue. Four teams did this (Daichi and Sawaka, Marc and Rovilson, Ann and Diane, and Adrian and Collin).

The other three teams chose 'You Catch It' in which they used rice paper paddles to catch goldfish in a bucket.
5. In Leg 6, teams completed a Detour task in a cultural village in which country?

Answer: South Korea

In Leg 6, teams continued through South Korea in an attempt to follow clues from Busan to Seoul. This time, the teams had a choice between 'Too Ho' and 'Too Heavy'. In 'Too Ho', teams joined in a traditional game in which they had to throw bamboo sticks into a metal canister. Taking turns, teams needed to get three shots in to collect their next clue.

In 'Too Heavy', teams loaded logs onto a traditional carrying device and carried them to a location within the village. While Marc and Rovilson, Pamela and Vanessa, and Terri and Henry completed 'Too Ho', Adrian and Collin, Paula and Natasha, and Ann and Diane completed 'Too Heavy'.
6. In Leg 7, which was the only team to complete the glass-designing Detour task ('Blow') in the Czech Republic?

Answer: Paula and Natasha

In Leg 7, teams flew from South Korea to Germany and took a train to Prage, Czech Republic. The Detour for this leg of the race was near the end; teams had to take another train ride to the city of Beroun and then drive to Nizbor to make their choice between 'Bow' and 'Blow'.

In 'Bow', teams used a crossbow and both members had to hit a target to collect their clue. All of the teams completed this save for Paula and Natasha who, instead, completed 'Blow' and each had to use glass-carving machinery to properly cut a design into the bottom of a glass jar.

After this, teams drove to the Pit Stop at Karlstejn Castle.
7. In Leg 8 in Prague, teams completed the Detour under the influence of an Intersection.

Answer: True

Midway through the eighth leg of the race, teams found an Intersection waiting in front of Prague Castle. This required that each of the six teams pair up with another team to complete the next few tasks. The Detour was intersected, so both teams had to choose between 'Snap' and 'Roll'.

In 'Snap', the teams needed to take photographs of three Prague landmarks before handing off their digital cameras. In 'Roll', they had to roll fifty-liter kegs through the streets of Prague from a restaurant to a boat hotel. Only the trailing teams, Paula and Natasha and Terri and Henry, ended up taking the 'Snap' task.

After the Detour, the Intersection ended.
8. During the Detour task in Leg 10 in Hungary, some teams needed to play with which of the following toys?

Answer: Rubik's Cube

The Detour task in Leg 10 took the five remaining teams to Heroes Square in Budapest, Hungary where they were required to choose between 'Say It' and 'Play It'. In 'Say It', teams needed to properly pronounce the names of Hungary's fourteen kings, all of whom were memorialized at Heroes Square. Pamela and Vanessa and Paula and Natasha did this.

In 'Play It', teams instead needed to complete all six sides of a Rubik's cube (though not all at the same time) by alternating players with every colour. Marc and Rovilson and Ann and Diane did this one. Adrian and Collin did not complete the Detour as they'd claimed the Fast Forward clue.
9. During Leg 11, teams had to go through South Africa. During the Detour in the Aquila Park Game Reserve, all four teams worked with animal dung.

Answer: True

Driving north of Cape Town to visit the Aquila Park Game Reserve, teams started by entering a cheetah enclosure to collect their Detour task, a choice between 'In One End' and 'Out the Other'. All teams chose the latter task which required that they use the tools provided to shovel elephant dung from a pen, into a wheelbarrow, and to a marked spot outside. Had they chosen 'In One End' they would've needed to feel an elephant one hundred kilograms of food (by placing it into a trough).

After this task, teams took a safari vehicle to the next Pit Stop on the reserve grounds.
10. During the final leg of the race, teams completing the 'Search' Detour task in South Africa had to find how many rocks?

Answer: Three

In the final leg of the race, teams headed to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town to complete either 'Search' or 'Assemble'. In 'Search', completed by only Collin and Adrian, teams needed to search through piles of colourful stones for three of only a handful coloured yellow with a red dot (a la the race flag). Meanwhile, in 'Assemble', the other two teams (Marc and Rovilson and Pamela and Vanessa) went to a local electronics shop to create a wire art radio.

When it was working, they could continue on with the leg.
