Including the Dragonball on Gohan's hat, Garlic Jr. has five Dragonballs in his possession. Chi-Chi and Bulma help Goku locate the location of them but, by the time Goku arrives, Ginger and Sansho have already gathered the last two balls. Garlic Jr. makes his wish before Goku even arrives.

Garlic Jr. can sense something strange about Gohan's power, especially when he is infuriated. He also realizes he must have greater potential if he is Goku's son. Gohan doesn't understand why Garlic Jr. would want to make him his apprentice, but Garlic Jr. tells him all he has to do is listen to him and he will be as strong as any other warrior.

Nikki tries to stop Gohan from eating this strange fruit, but Gohan is too quick for him. As he's dizzily running away from Nikki, he imagines himself in a world full of dragons, riding one and dancing with them. This burst of energy is short lives, but when Garlic Jr. sees that he has managed to evade Nikki, he is completely convinced Gohan will "uphold his reign."

Fearing death more than anything else, Garlic Jr. knows that he will be able to carry out his father's wishes of ruling a dark world if he can never die. That he wished for immortality shocks Kami, but Piccolo says that he will wish that he never wish for immortality after he gets his hands on him.

Garlic Jr. is surprised that he is not dead because his existence means his henchmen did not finish off Piccolo. Kami remembers Garlic's promise of revenge, but says he could never believe his agent of darkness would come through the medium of his only son. Garlic replies that he should have just let his father be Earth's guardian then.

While Goku is occupied fighting Ginger and Nikki, Garlic attacks Kami outside of the palace, firing energy blasts at him and headbutting him.

The people of Earth recognized Garlic's evil intentions and decided on Kami, who ushered in a period of peace. Furious, Garlic tried to overthrow Kami in a struggle between good and evil, but was sealed in a the Dead Zone.

The three monsters were outclassed by Goku before their transformations, but Goku struggles with them after their spell. He does manages to knock out Ginger and ask him threateningly about his son's whereabouts. Nikki and Sansho ambush him though. Without the emergence of Piccolo and Krillin, Goku may well have been finished by this trio.

Krillin runs up there with Gohan, where he thinks he is safe from the monsters. Sansho prepared to attack him, but the floor gives. On what now becomes the ceiling for him, Sansho is greeted by Piccolo who promises to make him pay for his deeds.

Sansho rises from his painful fall, as Piccolo mocks him. Piccolo swiftly evades his punches and initiates his own barrage of attacks, which include a punch that sends Sansho flying through pillars and skidding along the ground. Piccolo finishes him off with a single blast, leaving Sansho dead hanging from the side of a column by a pile of rubble.

Ginger and Nikki have Goku trapped outside of Garlic Jr's palace. However, Goku uses his Power Pole to push them both away from him and leaps onto the top of the building. Then, he fires a Kamehameha, which sends Ginger and Nikki to the next dimension.

Krillin tries to take Gohan upstairs, but he is terrified when he sees Sansho there. After Sansho falls through the floor, he runs back downstairs with Gohan away from collapsing pillars and blasts fired from fighting.

Piccolo says that after he kills Garlic Jr., Goku will be his next victim. Just like in the fight against Raditz, the idea of fighting with Goku appalls Piccolo, but he realizes it is a necessity. So, the two combine to overpower Garlic Jr. and force him to unleash his full power.

Goku is hanging from a decorative pillar and grabs onto Piccolo as he goes flying past him. Krillin manages to grasps a pillar himself, but is more worried about Gohan, who is actually safe behind a pile of rubble. Regardless, Gohan's rage is stronger than the consuming force of the Dead Zone. Piccolo and Goku are both slowly being sucked in though.

The energy unleashed by his rage quickly flushes Garlic Jr. into his Dead Zone, which closes up immediately and falls into the sea.

The Z Fighters ask Gohan what he remembers and he says that all he could recall was how strong his father was and that he knew his dad would save the day. Krillin and even Piccolo are moved by this and none of them say anything else about the fight to him.

As Gohan rides back on the Nimbus Cloud with his father, we see through the narrator and Goku's stream of thoughts his other motives for acting like he saved the world.
