Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these does Will Drake plan to build in the Hotel Cortez?

Answer: An atelier

Will Drake wanders through his hotel as it's being renovated for a new atelier. He tells his son that he thinks he and Elizabeth are likely to be together forever. Of course, that's when a builder comes by to alert Will of an issue with one of the walls; behind the bricks and mortar is an unplanned wall-- a solid inch of thick steel. Two workers open it up and wander inside only to get attacked by creatures in the darkness; both men are killed as the figures inside tear through their necks.
2. After leaving the Hotel Cortez, Det. Lowe checks himself into which of these?

Answer: Hospital

Det. Lowe ends up at the West Los Angeles Health Center and allows himself to be admitted for tests. Things finally seem to be closing in on him, and he needs a way to get his life back on track...but he needs professional help to get there. Alex suggests that he not stay at the hospital, or at least let her choose a better one via her connections, but he's just eager to stay somewhere. John ended up back at the office at one point and, in an attempt to find out more about the case, he attacked his former partner.

He doesn't say that it was in the files there that he was led to the hospital.
3. Why did Elizabeth originally come to Los Angeles?

Answer: To act in movies

At the Hotel Cortez, Elizabeth and Iris investigate the corpses in the newly-found hallway. Iris is surprised as it's the first time she's ever seen The Countess exhibit fear.
In one of the rooms of the hotel, Marcy unpacks her things having received a free weekend stay from Will Drake (for selling him the hotel). When she gets the door, it's slammed open on her and she's attacked by two hungry individuals-- the same from the hall.
They're actually two people who came to the Hotel Cortez in 1925, and one of them was in motion pictures alongside Elizabeth at that time. Elizabeth went into the business because she wanted to become immortal, and when she was invited to dinner with handsome actor Rudolph Valentino, she met Natacha Rambova...his wife. There, Rambova and Valentino both seduced the impressionable girl.
4. Rudolph Valentino was killed at the Hotel Cortez in 1925.

Answer: False

Shortly after her passionate night with Rambova and Valentino, Elizabeth was invited to a party at the Hotel Cortez celebrating its grand opening and hosted by none other than James March. It was at this party, shortly after the popping of the champagne, that Elizabeth discovered Valentino had died in New York.

She quickly ran out to the window (the same one out which Sally would later be pushed in the present day) but was stopped from jumping at the last moment by March...who said he'd likely never let her go.
5. Where did Elizabeth get married?

Answer: The Hotel Cortez

Over the course of the following year, a mysterious woman in black visited the grave of Valentino to place a single red rose; it was none other than Elizabeth. When she placed the rose one day, she was shocked to find that Valentino was still alive; Rambova reintroduces him. Valentino's stunt double was in the tomb the whole time.

The pair congratulated her on her recent nuptials, of course. She married James March in a small ceremony in the lobby of the Hotel Cortez, though she never felt love for the man, instead finding herself attracted to his darker side.

She did, of course, know about his tendencies...but insisted she watch from the shadows.
6. From where did Elizabeth's blood-borne virus originate?

Answer: Europe

Rambova and Valentino apologized for their absence and hesitance to contact Elizabeth, but they befell unusual circumstances. Valentino, traveling via train, was watched by a mysterious man who, following along, awoke him from a sleep to reveal that he was the great German director F. W. Murnau. What he wanted was not to kill Valentino, but preserve him.

While filming 'Nosferatu', he was infected with the blood virus that would eventually be spread to Valentino, then to Rambova. The two returned to Hollywood to invite her into their circle forever...but only if she left with them on a train to Europe.

She, of course, said yes...but she was overheard by March.
7. What is the name of the young girl who John discovers was associated with the Ten Commandment murders?

Answer: Wren

At the hospital, John locates the restricted ward and waits for the perfect time to subdue the guard (with a metal tray to the face) and sneak inside. There, he wanders the hallway to locate room 153, the chamber visited by Detective Hahn containing the suspected Ten Commandments Killer.

When he unlocks the door, only a young girl named Wren stands inside. He presses her for information since she was in proximity to the killer, but she tells John that she acted of her own will; she killed the security guard at the church, and was present during the other killings.

She insists, she was responsible.
8. In 1986, The Countess saved a young girl by breaking into which of these?

Answer: A hot car

In 1986, Wren's father left her in a car in front of the Hotel Cortez to go drinking at a Los Angeles bar. Locked in, Wren had to endure the heat trapped in the vehicle, but only until someone came to save her. It was The Countess who broke the car window and offered her a choice. Looking back, Wren regrets the choice she made to stay away from her father forever.

Unfortunately, John doesn't seem to get why she's so forlorn about what she's been saddled with. He insists that she tell him who the killer is, but she only agrees to if she can take him to where the killer lives.
9. Valentino and Rambova not only feed off Marcy the realtor, but also which of these?

Answer: Three Australian men

In Marcy's hotel room, Valentino and Rambova regenerate themselves by feasting on the real estate agent's flesh, though it's clear they need much more to sustain themselves, having survived off rats for the duration of their time trapped in the walls of the Hotel Cortez. Rambova blames Valentino for what's happened; he wanted to come back for Elizabeth when, really, they had the money and opportunity to leave forever and live in peace together.

Instead, they faced off against March. Valentino promises they'll reclaim what they have lost.

A trio of Australians checks in to the room across the hall, and the lovers take the chance to feed.
10. Who reveals to Elizabeth the whereabouts of Rambova and Valentino?

Answer: Mr. March

Mr. March, in his room, gets ready for dinner and puts on some music while Ms. Evers prepares for his monthly dinner with Elizabeth. As soon as they sit at the table, Elizabeth reveals that she plans to remarry. Cheekily, James suggests that when she kill Will Drake, she do so off the property to spare him the presence. James wanted Elizabeth to love him originally, but she simply didn't. It's why he had his thugs knock out Rambova and Valentino, bring them to the hotel, and seal them off, leaving Elizabeth at the station alone. This is news to Elizabeth. At this news, she screams, realizing the mistakes she's made all this time.
Rambova and Valentino, finally regenerated, don new clothes and leave the Hotel Cortez through the front lobby.
At the West Los Angeles Health Center, Will and Wren escape out a back door and she advises him to search for the killer at the Hotel Cortez. When John vows to kill the killer if he must, Wren regretfully says that she's sorry that has to happen. She also refuses to return, instead opting to run into the path of a moving truck.
