Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the story, who is shot in the head?

Answer: Jane

The film opens with two people driving down a country road outside Washington D.C. While they speed along, they find a man walking down the road. The woman in the passenger seat causes the driver to swerve the car into the man, and because of this, they hit him and accidentally swerve into the ditch.

When they wake up, they find the decapitated head on the hood of the car. It opens its eyes and moans before they turn on the windshield wipers and push the head away. They get out of the car where the man claims he has a broken rib.

The woman tries to flag down a caravan, but finds that it contains more undead men. She quickly gets a shotgun from the trunk and begins to shoot them in the legs yelling hysterically. The man says he's sorry, that it's all his fault, that he never should have said anything, and while the woman fumbles with the shotgun, he shoots her in the back of the head.
2. Which character is a TV show host?

Answer: Marty Clark

Four weeks earlier, the woman from the car, Jane, and the her murderer, political consultant, David Murch, appeared on Marty Clark's news talk show to discuss the upcoming election. The three discussed the recent protesters across the United States who are against the war in Iraq. Marty Clark's third guest on the show was Janet Hofstader, who was once described as a gold-star mom, but her son was killed in the war in Iraq.

Unfortunately, she was detained by the Secret Service during a recent presidential press conference because she tried to ask why her son died in Iraq.

She claimed that she had the right to ask the question, but it was never answered for her. David took the time to tell her that his older brother was killed in Vietnam, and that if he had one wish, it would be for her son to come back and tell America that he died in a valiant, yet necessary struggle for the nation that he loved.

Although Janet tried to oppose this, Marty Clark took it to a commercial break.
3. According to David, what's a good way to get through to the audience?

Answer: Make it seem like you're thinking

That night, Jane took David out for a drink, claiming that she was intrigued by the way he fielded the topic on the TV show. She assumed that it was simply planned. He said that he simply blanked out on live TV, which had never happened before. Jane said that they would both say whatever it takes to win in such a situation, though David is sure that it isn't just that. David said that the presenter always wants the audience to see them thinking.

He gave Jane an example at that point, and then asked her a question to try it out.

She made a joke out of it, trying to prove that she's a fun person to be around. Both of them decide that either people are simply afraid of her, or they don't like her views.
4. According to David, what is the ultimate aphrodisiac?

Answer: Power

After getting drinks, Jane and David went back to his place to spend the night. This inevitably led to David being shackled to his bed. During this, he received a call from Kurt Rand, who seems to be running the presidential race on the one side. Jane let him talk on the phone while she dripped melting candle wax on his chest. David was surprised to learn that the 'soldier coming back' line that he used on Marty Clark's show was a hit with the president and that he'd be using it in an upcoming speech. Both Jane and David are excited about this. That night, they watched the presidential address and David's line was said to all Americans. Jane was ecstatic about the idea while David took it a bit more laid-back.

Although the President assumed that those brave, fallen soldiers would never come back, he was dead wrong.
5. Where did the first zombie incident occur?

Answer: Dover Air Force Base

The first incident took place two days later at the Dover Air Force Base. Troops had been bringing back a new stockpile of filled coffins draped with American flags. Two guards on duty at the time were alerted that a civilian had been attempting to take pictures of the area.

While one guard went around the building, the other stayed inside to secure the area. It was at this point when hands began bursting from the coffins of the fallen soldiers. Although the guard attempted to shoot the zombies, he was unable to harm them.

The second guard, attempting to save his colleague, shot through a zombie into the first guard, killing him. While he struggled to refill the ammo in his gun, the zombies slowly approached him. Unfortunately, he couldn't refill it in time...but when the fallen soldiers reached him, they left him at ease, and unharmed.
6. What was the name of David's brother?

Answer: Philip

After the events at the military base, David took his mother to visit the grave of Philip Murch, his brother. On the way there, David received numerous phone calls from work, one of which requested another interview on the Marty Clark Show. Arriving at the grave of his brother, David and his mother continued to talk about their recent affairs until they began eating some chocolate. David's mother placed one on the headstone of Philip before David commented that she'd be making a certain squirrel very happy with the treat. Soon, the phone rang again, although this time, he didn't pick it up because it was only Jane.

He decided to tell his mother then that he had been seeing Jane. She told him to be careful about it before David saw a man digging up a grave.
7. Why did the zombies return from the dead?

Answer: To vote

When David went to investigate the man at the grave, he discovered that there was something very odd about him. Slowly backing up, he made his way back to the car and told his mother to lock her door. As they began to drive away, the zombie reached into the car and grabbed David. He quickly rolled up his window with his mother screaming beside him, and as they sped up, the zombie's arm fell off. Luckily, they escaped.
David made his way to a biomedical laboratory where Kurt Rand introduced him to a zombie soldier who had died on the operating table. Of course, he had come back to life since then. The tricky thing is, nothing would kill him. They tried chopping him into pieces, amputating limbs, but nothing would work. Kurt shot the lively corpse a few times for emphasis before covering the body and spraying some air freshener around. He claimed that they could hush it up in a day.
The next day, when the story hit the news, they discovered that the zombies came back to vote.
8. Is there a way to defeat the zombie soldiers?

Answer: Yes

It was discovered shortly after the nation discovered the reason behind the zombie invasion. Quite simply, once the zombies had had their chance to voted, they simply dropped dead...again.
A reverend spoke on the Marty Clark show along with Jane. At this time, Jane said that the soldiers may have gotten God's stamp of approval for the feat and she used a few lines that were probably provided by David for the occasion. Marty asked Jane if it was right for the undead to vote for the President and she says it's hard to tell because it's impossible to determine if 'undead' counts as 'dead', and because the soldiers fought for the country and lost their lives to do so. Kurt said that David may have made someone that they could put into the Senate. David says that they shouldn't make drastic moves because the zombies were hard to follow.
He was right. A few days later, they discovered that the zombies weren't voting for the President they wanted. Instead, they were voting for anyone who would end the war.
9. What is the name of Janet Hofstead's son?

Answer: Gordon

When the government got word that the zombies were against them, they took action, declaring all zombies to be health hazards. Jane appeared on the Marty Clark Show again, this time to counter what she said on her previous appearance. She said that the undead should not vote as they have no higher brain function. As well, they were traitors to their country, abandoning their government's pleas and coming back to fight against the war for freedom.
However, some citizens were taking action and letting the zombies into their homes, supporting them instead as their sons and fathers were also in Iraq fighting the war. Kurt told David and Jane that the zombie voters may cots them the election, and every time they get rid of one, another pops up in its place. David suggested that they welcome them home, like regular veterans. David also realized that only soldiers against the war in Iraq came back to vote since he wished that they support their opinion against it. The ones in favour stayed dead. This really didn't help the voting.
Kurt took David to a zombie quarantine zone to show him one zombie who may have the power to make a difference: Janet Hofstead's son, who David wished would come back to life on the Marty Clark show. Kurt pulled him aside and asked him to read a statement on the show to change the minds of the voters, even going so far as to threaten the soldier's mother to get her to convince him. Gordon didn't like this though, and brutally killed Kurt rather than sign the document.
10. David's brother was killed in the Vietnam War.

Answer: False

David returned home with Jane and wondered why he was the one responsible for everything. He also told Jane that he was forced to watch Kurt die in front of him, something that's never happened to him. David was forced to let the soldiers vote, and clear them of their health quarantine. On the show, it was also revealed that David's brother, Philip, never died in the war. He was honourably discharged and returned home. David's mother said that it was for the best not to let David know as Philip was shell-shocked and unstable. David ended up discovering a gun owned by Philip, loaded and kept in a desk drawer. Unknowingly, David shot and killed his brother when he was too young to remember. He forgot about the incident, but always wished his brother would come back. David's mother said that she wished Philip would come back.
Soon, voting day came along, and the dead voted. David realized, however, that it would be the insiders that would decide, and the election was rigged so that they would win.
They did.
David and Jane went to celebrate, but it was cut short. First, when Jane revealed that she would be getting David's job, and he had unknowingly 'step down'. Secondly, by the screams of zombie voters, rising from the graves in Arlington and beyond from the World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and other battles, called in as reinforcements.

That's where the story began. David and Jane drove away from Washington D. C. and to the country road where they crashed and flagged down the wrong truck. David shot Jane in the back of the head. Now, David puts the gun in his mouth and pulls the trigger, but there's no bullets inside. He confronts the zombies who say that he betrayed them, saying they'd have a voice in the future of the war and the country. They decide to let him join them, as they're looking for a few good men; someone who can get them to win. David is also surprised to see his older brother, Philip among them, and he's the one to break David's neck, bringing him to the other side.

In the end, it's David who leads the campaign, one million undead men strong to fight for the country's rights and to prevent sending more men to their deaths, otherwise, those who send proud Americans to die for the lie generated by the insiders of the nation will face the gates of Hell.
