Boone Carlisle, played by Ian Somerhalder, was the first main cast member to die in "Lost". His sister was Shannon Rutherford. We learned about Boone and Shannon's story in the episode titled "Hearts and Minds", where it was revealed that they were actually step-siblings and had once had a sort of romantic relationship. Boone was critically injured in the episode "Deus Ex Machina", and he later died in "Do No Harm".

Boone's initial reaction to Locke's profession in the "real world" was disbelief. He didn't understand how someone who was so good at hunting and tracking would work at a box company. Boone and Locke became friends and discovered the hatch, which Locke desperately wanted to open.

When everyone was on the lookout for Ethan, Boone had night guard duty. He fell asleep during his watch and dreamt that something, presumably the island beast, was attacking him. Boone woke up in the jungle (he must have been sleepwalking), and the "island beast" was Vincent! Of course, he was in an embarrassing position when discovered by Locke and Sayid.

In the episode titled "White Rabbit", Boone stole the last of their supply of bottled water. He did this with good intentions, but was caught trying to give some to an ill Claire. Jack saved the day however, announcing that he had found caves with fresh water. Apparently, his dead father led him to the caves. This show comes up with the craziest things!

Locke felt that Shannon had too much of a hold over Boone, so he gave him a drug that made Boone have a vision. In this vision he saw Shannon killed by the island beast. Boone ran back to camp to confront Locke, and Locke showed Boone that Shannon was still alive. When asked how he had really felt about Shannon's "death", he replied that he had been relieved.

Boone disliked Sayid because he was becoming romantically involved with Shannon. This made Boone very jealous, and when Sayid told Boone of his intentions, Boone told him to be careful as Shannon would end up using him. Shannon was furious when she found out, but she and Sayid became a couple anyway.

Boone found maps and drugs in the plane, and he also discovered that the radio still worked. He managed to make contact and said that there were survivors of the crash. He heard a voice reply, but then the plane fell over the cliff, mortally wounding poor Boone.

In "Deus Ex Machina", Locke had a strange dream after being unable to break the glass of the hatch. In this dream he saw the airplane fly overhead, and then he saw Boone all bloody and battered. This was exactly how he looked after he had been hurt in the plane. One interpretation of this dream would be that the island was telling Locke to keep trying at the hatch, but there would have to be a sacrifice, this being Boone's death.

Answer: To let him go

Jack did everything he could to save Boone; he even gave Boone a blood transfusion. Boone's leg was in bad shape, and Jack made the decision to amputate his leg. Just as he was about to do it, Boone regained consciousness and told Jack to let him go, as there was nothing more that could be done for him.

Answer: He died before he could say it

Boone's last words were to "Tell Shannon...", but he never continued the sentence. Boone died before he could utter his last words. This was a very sad event in "Lost". It was also sad to watch Shannon and her grief later. This quiz is in memory of Boone, whose missing presence will be felt throughout the rest of the show. Rest in peace, Boone.
