Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When season 2 began, which three characters were pinned down by Miami gunrunners?

Answer: Raylan, Boyd and Ava

This occurred in "The Moonshine War". The gunrunners were after Raylan, but did not care who else got killed. They shot Bo, and Boyd and Raylan worked together to protect Ava. Boyd then turned his gun on Raylan, since he did not want Raylan to get in the way of him going after the gunrunner that got away.

When Raylan said he may shoot to stop Boyd, Boyd said, "I'm gonna bet my life on you being the only friend I have left in this world."
2. A key character of season 2 was a fourteen year old girl who was the object of a sex offender's interest, and also of interest to the matriarch of the Bennett crime family. This girl's name was what?

Answer: Loretta

The sex offender was working for the Bennetts when he went after Loretta. Loretta's father, Walt, was already in trouble with the Bennetts for growing marijuana on their land when he dug himself in much deeper by calling the Marshal Service to report that their employee was bothering his daughter.

The Bennetts killed him for that offense. As he was dying, Mags told Walt that she would raise Loretta.
3. Which of these characters was NOT a Bennett?

Answer: Jimmy

Mags Bennett had three sons: Coover, Dickie and Doyle. Jimmy Earl Dean was the sex offender that kidnapped Loretta and was caught by Raylan in "The Moonshine War".
4. In "The Life Inside" Arlo violated his house arrest. What did Raylan discover was the reason?

Answer: Helen kicked Arlo out

This family drama occurred toward the beginning of the episode. Helen kicked Raylan's father Arlo out of the house when she found out he had betrayed his son. Since he was under house arrest, this became Raylan's problem. Raylan told Arlo he could get the monitor off his leg if he returned the $20,000 he took from the Marshal Service during the sting. Arlo claimed he gave the money to Bo.

At Raylan's urging, Helen let Arlo back in the house.
5. 'Apple pie' figured in a couple episodes of season 2. What was the 'apple pie' during season 2?

Answer: Moonshine

Mags called her moonshine 'apple pie'. It was well-known by all the local characters. When she killed Walt, Mags did so by putting poison in his glass of apple pie.
6. In "The I of the Storm", who said, "You're a thrill a minute, Raylan. We need to sell tickets."?

Answer: Art

Art said this to Raylan after a very funny exchange during which he tried to guess who Ralan was seeing. Art started asking whether he should be concerned about Tim after Tim shot someone and since "he's a little off and you're always a little off". Raylan slipped up and revealed he had been out with someone and Art amused himself by trying to guess who Raylan was seeing and keeping a secret.

He guessed Rachel first, then dismissed the idea of Ava, then asked if Raylan had roofied him, and finally realized it was Raylan's ex-wife, the still-married Winona.

In between his laughter, this quote was his response.
7. During season 2, with whom was Ava living?

Answer: Boyd

Boyd and Ava were living together from the beginning of season 2. It appeared to be a platonic relationship at first and she appeared to be keeping him on the straight and narrow for part of that time. She told Raylan that her arrangement with Boyd was no liquor in the house and no trouble with the law.

As the season progressed, though, it became clear she had no delusions about his activities, and by the end of the season she was romantically involved with him.
8. There was a criminal gang from outside Harlan involved in season 2. What was it called?

Answer: The Dixie Mafia

The Dixie Mafia had a small part in season 1, when Winona's husband Gary got mixed up with them. They also had a part in season 2. Dickie and Coover Bennett robbed their oxy bus, killing one of their men. Doyle Bennett then killed two more of them to cover up for his brothers. Gary also once again got mixed up with them.
9. In "Cottonmouth", State Trooper Tom Bergen asked to borrow Raylan for follow up assistance on the bus robbery. When Art asked why he needed Raylan, Tom said that the locals still considered him an outsider, but Raylan was a local and Raylan could get the people in Harlan to talk to him. Art said to Raylan, "You're like the ______ whisperer. Put you on Oprah." Fill in the blank.

Answer: hillbilly

As Art was saying no, Tom was sharing copies of Walt's state benefit checks with Raylan. This brought Raylan one step closer to finding out that the Bennetts killed Loretta's father.
10. Winona was a victim during a bank robbery during season 2. What complicated the situation for her and caused her to seek Raylan's help?

Answer: The robbers took a stolen bill from her

This occurred in "Blaze of Glory". Winona had just found out that her husband had mortgaged their house when she found a box of cash in the evidence locker. She took the money and then took one $100 bill to the bank. While in line at the bank, she came to her senses and turned to leave.

The robbers then took over the bank and took the bill from her. She then found out that all bills in the evidence locker were in the federal database and went to Raylan for help. Raylan's efforts to help her return the money and keep her out of trouble was a key secondary plot of several episodes during the season.
11. Which three characters made a deal for the rights to land in "Brother's Keeper"?

Answer: Boyd, Carol and Mags

Boyd figured out that the battle over the land was about access for a road to get the coal to market. He acquired the last parcel and cut a deal with Mags who had much of the land, and then the two of them delivered the ultimatum to Carol, who represented the mining company.

The company gave in to the demands. Mags got a stake in the mining parent company and she told Boyd that the county was his, except for the marijuana business.
12. How did Loretta figure out that the Bennetts had killed her father?

Answer: Coover had her father's watch

This occurred at the end of "Brother's Keeper". Coover had stolen the watch off of Walt's dead body. Loretta saw the watch on Coover while helping him move some kegs. She then gave him a joint and stayed with him while he got high and passed out so she could find the watch and see the inscription.

She called Raylan for help, but Coover was already jealous of her and attacked her. When Dickie tried to stop him, Coover choked him and went after the girl. Raylan was able to rescue her, killing Coover in the process.
13. In "Debts and Accounts", shooters nearly killed Raylan and Winona. In the next episode, who did Raylan discover was behind the attempted murders?

Answer: Gary

During "Full Commitment", Raylan discovered that Gary had put out the hit on Raylan, promising Wynn of the Dixie Mafia the insurance money. Raylan told Gary to get out of town. He told Wynn that, "The next time we have this conversation, there won't be a conversation."
14. Who killed Helen Givens?

Answer: Dickie

Helen was Raylan's mother's sister. After Raylan's mother died, she raised Raylan. At the end of "Full Commitment", Dickie killed Helen when he broke into her and Arlo's house after Arlo helped Boyd steal his marijuana money. This set the stage for the next two dramatic episodes, with Raylan searching for her killer, trying to keep Arlo under control and trying to deal with an all-out war for control of crime in Harlan County by the Bennetts and Boyd Crowder.
15. Which of these things did NOT happen in the season finale, "Bloody Harlan"?

Answer: Raylan killed Mags

If you blinked, you missed something major during the episode. In addition to the other items mentioned here, Dicky strung up Raylan and beat him with a baseball bat, Boyd saved Raylan, Raylan was shot, and Doyle was shot and killed. While Loretta shot Mags, it was a leg wound, and Raylan did not kill her.

After Loretta confronted Mags about killing her father and Raylan told her that Doyle was dead and Dickie was in custody, Mags had a drink with Raylan and killed herself with the same poison she had used on Walt.
