Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What New York town did the first episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" occur?

Answer: Babylon

Peter's was an Italian restaurant where Gordon thought the owner was trying to be a Godfather-wannabe. Before the transformation, Ramsay sat through a constantly-bickering kitchen, the owner picking fights with everyone including creditors, and a too-warm fridge.
2. What was not true about Purnima?

Answer: It had four managers

The restaurant was originally named Dillons and it mad just about everything on the menu. Overall, the restaurant was pretty disgusting. Flies were everywhere, food was rotting, and roaches and rats dominated the storeroom. After seeing a half tomato that was rotten, Ramsay shut down service with three tables yet to be served.

The name was changed to Purnima and the menu had palatable Indian fare. This was one of the more talked about episodes because one of the managers claimed Ramsay's crew staged scenes; the case was dismissed.
3. Ramsay actually liked one of the things at the Mixing Bowl in Bellmore, New York.

Answer: True

Although he did like the crab cakes, the same couldn't be said about the bland zucchini or salmon with the weird sauce. The manager was obsessed with signs, give-aways, and specials. This was one of the few times Ramsay actually recommended the restaurant be shut down.

The menu went from new American to one catered to those with an active lifestyle. Among the guests at the relaunch were the members of the Arena Football League's New York Dragons.
4. How many months after the taping was the Seascape sold?

Answer: Five

The Seascape in Islip, New York, was a historical restaurant falling under hard times. There was plenty wrong with the Seascape including: The owner's lazy son, two bad chefs, dirty kitchen area, rancid food in the storage area, fish in a dog food bag, and a dining room that smelled of sewage.

As for dining: "Fresh" lobster ravioli that turned out to be dried, moldy pesto sauce with overcooked salmon, fishy-smelling chowder, pot roast that had been "cooked and recooked and recooked." It was enough to have Ramsay cancel a service altogether.

Despite the cleaning and a new menu, the chefs quit. The epilogue had said that 'the owner accepted an offer he could not refuse' five months after taping and the Seascape was sold.
5. What was not one of the food Ramsay tasted from the Old Stone Mill?

Answer: Shrimp and tilapia in parchment

The Olde Stone Mill was owned by a handyman who constantly tried to repair the restaurant and had a chef that said he lost his passion for food. The foods Ramsay sampled with disgust: Chopped salad stuffed in a funnel, 'fresh' crab cakes made from canned crab, a salty mushy mushroom risotto, and a tilapia stuffed with lobster in parchment.

The restaurant became a steakhouse and the town's mayor and a food critic were among the guests.
6. What California city was Sebastian's located in?

Answer: Burbank/Toluca Lake

Sebastian's was the pizzeria more known for its confusing menu than its pizza. The place was employed by struggling actors and just about everything was brought in frozen. In early 2008, Sebastian's closed. The location was stated as Burbank on the show, but many online sources (including TV.com) have revealed its true location was Toluca Lake. Toluca Lake and Burbank are about ten minutes apart.
7. What occupation was the owner of Finn McCool's in Westhampton before he owned a restaurant?

Answer: Police officer

One of the owner's sons ran the bar while the other cooked. During the visit, Ramsey tasted Irish spring rolls, salmon with a balsamic vinaigrette (which Ramsay says is a sign a chef has given up), and a greasy shepherd's pie that got him sick. A dirty restaurant with improper storing techniques, serving a chicken wing that was dropped on the floor, and upsetting the fire department with bad food were among the problems.

Finn McCool is an Anglicized version of Fionn mac Cumhaill, a mythical hunter and warrior.
8. Lela's in Pomona, California, had many problems. What was not one of them?

Answer: Waitress as a wanna-be rapper

During the taping, Ramsey tried to order a number of items, but they weren't available. Of the ones we was able to order was a 'homemade' tomato soup that wasn't, chicken nachos on day-old tortilla chips, a lamb with a chocolate mint sauce. One employee, nicknamed Buzzard for his bad habits, was caught stealing lamb and wine and eventually fired.

It was the head chef who did the famous "diamonds on my fish" routine. Despite Gordon's best efforts, Lela's was in high debt and closed.
9. Campagna in Fairlawn, New Jersey, had a fight between customers inside the restaurant.

Answer: False

Initially, Campania was a family-style Italian restaurant with a staff that didn't seem to take anything seriously and would serve large portions for low prices. During the relaunch, one table constantly complained they didn't like any of the food. The dispute in the parking lot involved one dissatisfied customer and one who yelled at her, "Why did you keep eating if you knew it was that bad?"
10. The Secret Garden in Moorpark, California, was not a pleasant experience for Gordon. Chipped, greasy plates, a moldy fridge, and a stubborn French chef were among the problems. During his sampling, he had a salad with what unsavory combination?

Answer: strawberry and shrimp

Ramsay also sampled a tough steak with greasy shoestring potatoes. During the inspection of the kitchen, Ramsay actually got sick from the sight of the maggots. The first relaunch went mediocre and the second involved a food critic who gave the place mixed reviews.
