Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first episode of the season saw Gordon revisit a number of restaurants. How many from season one did he revisit?

Answer: Six

In a two-hour special, Gordon revisited Peter's, Dillon's (later renamed Purnima), The Mixing Bowl, The Olde Stone Mill, Campania, and Finn McCool's. By 2011, only the Olde Stone Mill and Finn McCool's were still around and they were sold. The owner of Campania committed suicide in September 2010.
2. The lead singer of what music group, most famous for singing "We're Not Gonna Take It", visited the Handlebar?

Answer: Twisted Sister

The Handlebar was a 1980s theme pub in Mount Sinai, New York, that was known for its bad food, disinterested chef, and stubborn owner. Gordon redesigned the restaurant into a gastropub. Dee Snider, lead singer of Twisted Sister, visited the restaurant to host a motorcycle rally.
3. What restaurant had the infamous shrimp inside a chicken?

Answer: Trobiano's

Trobiano's in Great Neck, New York was half a million dollars in debt. The arrogant head chef's girlfriend and her family put everything at stake to try to keep the restaurant alive. Initially, the restaurant had an early bird special menu that mainly catered to the elderly.

Besides the shrimp inside a chicken, Ramsey didn't like the processed mozzarella in the appetizer or the dry salmon. During service, the head chef was known for not tasting his food before serving.
4. What Indiana college was in the same town as J Willy's?

Answer: University of Notre Dame

J Willy's was a bar and grill in South Bend that served mostly frozen food, including ribs with a mass-produced sauce and a pulled pork boat that not even a priest's blessing could salvage. Ramsay observed a service where a lot of food was sent back by unhappy customers.

A new barbecue sauce was introduced to the menu hoping to revive the restaurant. The restaurant did not survive past February 2009. The owners cited the economic situation that plagued the restaurant industry.
5. One restaurant shut down four days after the show featuring it aired.

Answer: True

New York City seafood restaurant The Black Pearl had three clueless and uncooperative owners. Ramsay fought with one owner who lied about the origin of the lobsters. Gordon tried to revisit the restaurant and a barbecue restaurant was there in its place.
6. What did Ramsay bring out to the diners just before he announced that he was shutting down service at Fiesta Sunrise?

Answer: Beans

The West Nyack Mexican restaurant was bad on many levels. Food was made in mass quantities and kept for a long time. Among the awful items included fatty beef, week-old rice, slimy chicken, five-month-old herbs, and curled fish. The owners previously owned a failed restaurant and used their daughter's credit in an attempt to run another restaurant.

A second service resulted in near-disaster. The third went much better when the town's mayor was served.
7. What state was Cafe 36 in?

Answer: Illinois

Cafe 36 was run by a couple in La Grange, Illinois. The place was infamous for its long waits, disinterested staff, incompetent head chef, and clueless owners. Cafe 36 became another casualty of the economic recession six months after it was on "Kitchen Nightmares".
8. Cranbury, New Jersey was home to Hannah & Mason's, a restaurant owned by two friends that wasn't open a lot. Gordon shut down the restaurant on what day?

Answer: Valentine's Day

Ramsay saw raw chicken next to the cooked chicken in the fridge during service. The place was only open three days a week and had a missing 'n' at the end of the sign. A trip to a local apple orchard helped with the second service. The restaurant closed in March 2010.
9. What city had Sante La Brea, a restaurant intended on serving healthy food run by a father and his two sons?

Answer: Los Angeles

Sante La Brea's slogan was "Tastlthy." Gordon tried an awful turkey melt, a memorable rice and vegetable dish called "mogudufu," and salmon that was too fishy. The customers thought the food was too bland. The head chef came in on his own terms and the restaurant served "unduck" and vegan versions of meat and fish. The father later left the business to his two sons.
10. Sabatiello's was an Italian restaurant with an angry and argumentative owner. What state was it in?

Answer: Connecticut

Sabatiello's was in Stamford, one of the largest cities in New England. The owner argued with customers and with Gordon. Gordon tried a tough steak, lasagna that wasn't exactly edible, and an Italian wedding soup that was made the day before. During service, the owner served sole stuffed with imitation crab and argued with a customer over lamb.

The service was shut down after too many arguments. Sabatiello's later closed one month after the show aired and the owner was later charged with vandalism and credit card fraud.
