Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Leela was brought up at the "Cookieville _________ Security Orphanarium".

Answer: Minimum

At the beginning of the episode, she learns that she's won the "Orphan of the Year" award for her career as an orphan starship captain. Amy congratulates her by saying "Your parents must be so proud!". Whoops.
2. Professor Farnsworth invents a machine that produces glow-in-the-dark noses as well as vast quantities of toxic waste. What does the toxic waste taste like?

Answer: Fig pudding

To be exact, Hermes (who for some reason has no problem tasting it with his finger) claims it tastes like "Delicious fig pudding with a distinct after-taste of toxic waste". Given the goo's corrosive properties, it's amazing Hermes even lived long enough to comment on the flavour!
3. Hermes asks for a $500 bribe to ignore the Professor's toxic waste. Bender offers to clandestinely dump the liquid instead, but at what price?

Answer: $499 and 100 cents

The Professor pays Bender anyway, for the "convenience". Bender proceeds to dump the toxic waste straight down into the sewers. After all, there's no one living down there. Except all the mutants.
4. Why does Warden Vogel remember the night Leela was brought to the Orphanarium as a baby?

Answer: Because he has a photographic memory and remembers every night

Leela was left in a basket at the orphanarium's front door. A note in an alien language was pinned to her, so everyone assumed she was abandoned by aliens. Ever since, Leela believed she was an alien, explaining her single, cantaloupe-sized eye.
5. Leela says she keeps her sadness pent-up inside, where it can fester quietly as a mental illness. Fry responds that he does the same thing, with his... what?

Answer: His stupidity

Leela is depressed because, despite all her achievements, she still feels abandoned by her parents. She holds on to the hope that her parents are somewhere up there between the stars, watching down on her. This couldn't be further from the truth: They're actually down in the sewer, watching up!
6. Which movie set was Bender hired to clean?

Answer: "Free Willy 3"

Bender is seen dumping what looks suspiciously like a dead killer whale wrapped in brown packaging paper. I guess the filming went horribly, horribly wrong. Leela tries to stop him because "the sewer mutants will be mad", and also because of "everything else that's horribly wrong with what you're doing".
7. The sewer mutants are upset because the toxic waste Bender dumped into the sewers is causing them to un-mutate.

Answer: False

Actually, they're upset because the toxic waste has made their underground sewage lake glow brightly enough for them to see how ugly they really are. The toxic waste apparently has no effect on mutants, seeing as how they are already quite deformed.
8. The mutants try to submerge Fry, Leela and Bender in the lake of toxic waste to punish them by causing them to mutate. Why is Bender scared despite not having any DNA to mutate?

Answer: The mutants threaten to beat him up afterwards

The mutants demonstrate the lake's DNA-altering properties by dunking a sewer rat into it. The rat turns into a disgusting hybrid between a fish, a bat and pig. Fry is disgusted, and compares it to the time he peeked into the kitchen at a Chinese restaurant.
9. The crew runs past several shops and billboards in the mutant sewer-city. Which of the following do we see?

Answer: Starbucks

Apparently there really is one -everywhere-! Or possibly this could be a snide remark by the makers of "Futurama" about the quality of Starbucks' coffee ("fit for the sewers"?). We also see signs for the "Big & Strange Men's Store", "Bob's Big Mutant Boy" restaurant, "Bed, Bath & Beneath", and "Head Reduction Surgery".

The final signpost the camera pans by is a "street crossing here" sign showing a stick-figure of a man with two heads and three legs crossing a street.
10. What does Bender use to smash his way through a window while escaping the sewer mutants?

Answer: Fry

Bender has no qualms about using his friends... as tools or otherwise. Fry seems largely unfazed by this - he's probably used to it by now.
11. The mutants use a hot-air balloon made of discarded remnants of Macy's Day Parade balloons. Which of these is NOT one of the pieces they used?

Answer: Snoopy's hind section

Even the balloon resembles some sort of weird, hideous mutant! Thankfully for our heroes, they are being expelled from the sewers, never to return (woohoo!). But Leela wants to investigate some strange things going on down in the sewers that may have a great impact on her life.
12. When Leela dives into the lake of toxic mutating ooze, her head turns into a squid.

Answer: False

It looks like it at first, but then we see her remove the squid. Then again, the squid turns out to be a mutated little girl. Ewww! There ARE fates worse than death!
13. Fry acquires the note that was found in Leela's basket the night she was abandoned at the orphanarium, but it's written in Alienese. What does the Professor use to analyze it?

Answer: The machine that makes glow-in-the-dark noses

Apparently, "it can do other things as well. Why shouldn't it?!". The only problem is that there's no way to tell how long the process will take - it might take a hundred million years! Heck, even when it's finally done, it takes a good few seconds to print out the analysis, thanks to its old-style dot matrix printer.
14. What sort of medical mutant-specialist delivered Leela when she was born?

Answer: An ear-ear-ear-nose-and-throat doctor

Leela turns out to be a mutant, born without any extra parts, only with that single big eye. Apparently she is the least mutated mutant ever born. It certainly is much better than being born with a leg - and nothing BUT a leg! Poor, poor leg guy...
15. What does Leela's mother have instead of arms?

Answer: Tentacles

Leela's mother has a pair of reddish tentacles instead of arms. Her father's mouth is on its side (it opens sideways!). Both her parents have that large single eye that she inherited.
