According to Luke, Lorelai couldn't make up her mind between loving the color red or hating it. She's starting to really like red, but Luke remember's Lorelai comparing "red" to being "dead". Blue wouldn't work because they were painting the outside of the house blue. Luke liked white, but it didn't match Paul Anka.
