Lorelai tells Luke that he doesn't have to answer that fast, but he repeats, "Yes." "You can take some time to think about-" Lorelai continues, but Luke interjects with "yes" yet again. Then the two look at each other dumbfounded, and Lorelai says, "Now what?"

Lorelai wants to celebrate the moment that she and Luke get engaged, and they decide to make a toast. The only problem is that there is no alcohol in the diner. The couple then proceeds to go over to Doose's Market, but, as Lorelai says, it has "stupid small town hours" and is closed at this hour of the night.

Taylor got so annoyed with the lateness of the hour that he decided to skip the trophy ceremony, and just tossed out the trophies to their respective winners. He shouted around to find out who won the race in first place, and then tossed the first place trophy to him.

He did the same with second place. Then he yelled out "Third place!" and just tossed the trophy to the person nearest to Taylor. "I'm not third place," the person who received the third place trophy tried to explain to Taylor, but Taylor got distracted by people (Lorelai and Luke) hanging around the door to his store in the middle of the night.

Taylor, however, gave in to Lorelai and Lukes' pleas to turn the lights back on, and told whoever had turned them off to turn them back on.

Rory is now living with her grandparents, and doesn't understand why Lorelai is mad at her. It isn't even clear to viewers if Rory even knows that Lorelai is mad at Rory, but Lorelai has given up. Lorelai tells Luke that "this is Rory's mistake to make," and if she wants to quit Yale, there's nothing she can do to stop her. Lorelai tried to talk her out of it. Lorelai even said to her parents, "You've won." They now have their "perfect daughter" in Rory- their "new and improved Lorelai".

Rory appears to have fun at the party, and jokes around with Logan and all of his friends. During the party, Logan and Rory discuss the fact that Logan doesn't think Rory will last for very long out of school. She loves school!

The friend of the Gilmore family that was helping Rory out had promised her no more than 20 hours of community service, but Rory didn't luck out when the judge said that she didn't "care how rich" Rory was, or "who her family" is. Rory had to get a job, and with 300 hours of community service, that would be extremely tough, as Rory points out.

When Kirk informs Luke of his unusual collecting techniques, Luke responds, "Are you serious?" "As serious as a heart attack," Kirk replies, "which is how I got that ring you're holding."

In the season 2 episode, "Richard in Stars Hollow", Paris is trying to find an interesting story for the school newspaper, and decides to find the "seedy underbelly" of a small town, like Stars Hollow. When she sees Luke's diner, she thinks that it would be the perfect place for "bad" things to happen. She asks Luke is there are a lot of truckers who pass through there. Luke asks Rory who her friend is, and Rory replies, "Angela Lansbury."
(In this episode, "New and Improved Lorelai", Paris asks Luke who he is, which isn't really a mistake, as Paris never was truly introduced to Luke.)

Paris has a boyfriend named Doyle, who is a short guy, and very odd. Rory knew him from Yale's newspaper. Paris informs Rory that she is moving in with Doyle, and invites Rory to move in with them. Rory declines, however, because she is not returning to Yale. This infuriates and terrifies Paris.

Lorelai even gives Paris her cell phone number. Lorelai explains that it is her lifeline, and that Paris will always be able to reach her. Luke later comments, "Did you give Paris your real cell phone number?"

As the town of Stars Hollow not so subtly points out to Luke, it is humiliating for a man to not be the one to propose. Babette and Miss Patty are disappointed when they find out Lorelai proposed. "So you went modern," they sigh. Even Kirk feels for Luke! (Although Luke himself wasn't upset.) Kirk wants to make sure he's the one to propose to Lulu, and that she doesn't just spring it on him.

After Luke buys the ring, Kirk remembers that Lulu happened to have her eye on that particular ring, and he needs it back.
