quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lorelai says, "Luke, will you marry me?", and then Luke responds, "What?" Lorelai repeats her question. What is the next thing Luke says?

Answer: Yes.

Lorelai tells Luke that he doesn't have to answer that fast, but he repeats, "Yes." "You can take some time to think about-" Lorelai continues, but Luke interjects with "yes" yet again. Then the two look at each other dumbfounded, and Lorelai says, "Now what?"
2. Does Luke have any alcohol in the diner?

Answer: No

Lorelai wants to celebrate the moment that she and Luke get engaged, and they decide to make a toast. The only problem is that there is no alcohol in the diner. The couple then proceeds to go over to Doose's Market, but, as Lorelai says, it has "stupid small town hours" and is closed at this hour of the night.
3. The 5th Annual Connecticut Bike-a-thon was supposed to finish during daylight, so when it is the middle of the night and everyone isn't finished the race yet, Taylor gets a bit peeved. There were trophies for the first, second and third place winners. Who didn't receive their trophy?

Answer: Third place

Taylor got so annoyed with the lateness of the hour that he decided to skip the trophy ceremony, and just tossed out the trophies to their respective winners. He shouted around to find out who won the race in first place, and then tossed the first place trophy to him.

He did the same with second place. Then he yelled out "Third place!" and just tossed the trophy to the person nearest to Taylor. "I'm not third place," the person who received the third place trophy tried to explain to Taylor, but Taylor got distracted by people (Lorelai and Luke) hanging around the door to his store in the middle of the night.
4. As Lorelai and Luke were about to finally make their toast under the Gazebo, the lights went out. Why did Taylor turn them off?

Answer: In five minutes he would have to pay more for the lights

Taylor, however, gave in to Lorelai and Lukes' pleas to turn the lights back on, and told whoever had turned them off to turn them back on.
5. Luke explains to Lorelai that he could have kids, or not have kids, or have just one kid, or whatever Lorelai wanted. What did he say that he'd prefer kids to?

Answer: Furniture shopping

Lorelai appears to not have heard any of Luke's speech about kids (and furniture shopping) because her sleepy and drunk response is "I like shopping." She later, however, does comprehend what Luke had said, because she says that kids would be nice.
6. What is Lorelai's reaction to Luke buying a house without her?

Answer: She's a little upset, and would prefer to be involved in major decisions like that next time

Luke had told Lorelai that he bought the Twickham house, but returned it. He mentions that he could probably get it back if he wanted to, but...
Lorelai has a slow and drunken response to this as well.
7. Does Lorelai see or talk to Rory at all in this episode?

Answer: No

Rory is now living with her grandparents, and doesn't understand why Lorelai is mad at her. It isn't even clear to viewers if Rory even knows that Lorelai is mad at Rory, but Lorelai has given up. Lorelai tells Luke that "this is Rory's mistake to make," and if she wants to quit Yale, there's nothing she can do to stop her. Lorelai tried to talk her out of it. Lorelai even said to her parents, "You've won." They now have their "perfect daughter" in Rory- their "new and improved Lorelai".
8. What is everyone wearing at the party Logan has thrown for Rory?

Answer: Black and white striped "jail-like" outfits

Rory appears to have fun at the party, and jokes around with Logan and all of his friends. During the party, Logan and Rory discuss the fact that Logan doesn't think Rory will last for very long out of school. She loves school!
9. How does Rory wear her hair in court?

Answer: In a ponytail

When Rory gets her sentence of more community service than expected, Emily comments that she "shouldn't have let her wear a ponytail."
10. How many hours of community service is Rory assigned?

Answer: 300

The friend of the Gilmore family that was helping Rory out had promised her no more than 20 hours of community service, but Rory didn't luck out when the judge said that she didn't "care how rich" Rory was, or "who her family" is. Rory had to get a job, and with 300 hours of community service, that would be extremely tough, as Rory points out.
11. Kirk, as viewers find out in this episode, befriends really old women. When they die, he gets their rings, and thus has an amazing collection. When he shows his rings to Luke, in an attempt to persuade him to buy one as his engagement ring for Lorelai, Luke picks one out. How did the old lady to whom the ring formerly belonged to die?

Answer: Heart attack

When Kirk informs Luke of his unusual collecting techniques, Luke responds, "Are you serious?" "As serious as a heart attack," Kirk replies, "which is how I got that ring you're holding."
12. Paris runs into Lorelai's house, and bumps into Luke. Has Paris ever seen Luke before this?

Answer: yes

In the season 2 episode, "Richard in Stars Hollow", Paris is trying to find an interesting story for the school newspaper, and decides to find the "seedy underbelly" of a small town, like Stars Hollow. When she sees Luke's diner, she thinks that it would be the perfect place for "bad" things to happen. She asks Luke is there are a lot of truckers who pass through there. Luke asks Rory who her friend is, and Rory replies, "Angela Lansbury."
(In this episode, "New and Improved Lorelai", Paris asks Luke who he is, which isn't really a mistake, as Paris never was truly introduced to Luke.)
13. How tall is Doyle in relation to the rest of his family?

Answer: He's the tallest

Paris has a boyfriend named Doyle, who is a short guy, and very odd. Rory knew him from Yale's newspaper. Paris informs Rory that she is moving in with Doyle, and invites Rory to move in with them. Rory declines, however, because she is not returning to Yale. This infuriates and terrifies Paris.
14. Rory is the only friend Paris has, and thus Paris has an extreme desire to force Rory back into Yale. Paris suggests kidnapping Rory to take her to Yale, and Luke agrees with her. "My suggestion first," he replies. What does Lorelai suggest?

Answer: Paris can talk to Lorelai whenever she wants to as a friend

Lorelai even gives Paris her cell phone number. Lorelai explains that it is her lifeline, and that Paris will always be able to reach her. Luke later comments, "Did you give Paris your real cell phone number?"
15. What is the problem with the ring that Luke bought from Kirk?

Answer: Kirk thinks that ring was the one that Lulu had her eye on

As the town of Stars Hollow not so subtly points out to Luke, it is humiliating for a man to not be the one to propose. Babette and Miss Patty are disappointed when they find out Lorelai proposed. "So you went modern," they sigh. Even Kirk feels for Luke! (Although Luke himself wasn't upset.) Kirk wants to make sure he's the one to propose to Lulu, and that she doesn't just spring it on him.

After Luke buys the ring, Kirk remembers that Lulu happened to have her eye on that particular ring, and he needs it back.
