Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We start to learn bits and pieces in the early part of the second half of the season about the organization that seems to have the lock on Sam Tyler's brain...for instance, the name of the organization. What astrologically based name do we see on the folder at the end of episode eight, entitled "The Dark Side of the Mook"?

Answer: Aries Project

The Aries Project used interviews obtained in the guise of trying to solve a crime involving Ray's brother.
2. Also in episode eight, "The Dark Side of the Mook", a robbery was committed by a sibling of one of the staff of the 125. What was this sibling's name?

Answer: Eddie Carling

Eddie Carling, played by Eric Balfour, robs a store wearing his uniform from the hotel across the street in an attempt to get thrown in jail. He is mainly looking for protection from the people who committed the decapitation murders also in the episode's plot line.
3. Sam Tyler stays pretty chaste throughout the show up until episode nine, "Take a Look At the Lawmen", when he meets Maria Belanger, a Child and Family Services worker helping with the interview of a child witness. They have a steamy rendezvous in the file room. Sam regrets this liaison at the end of the show when he finds out what?

Answer: Maria is Lt. Gene Hunt's daughter.

While estranged, Maria is still Lieutenant Hunt's daughter, one of three children he has. He discovers this when Hunt's rival from another precinct, Nunzio, talks to her in a bar. Sam overhears them say how their lives would have been different if Nunzio had been her father and not Hunt.

Strangely enough, episodes eight and nine were aired in the USA out of order, so they made the public wait a week to resolve who called Sam at the end the first half of the season. There was no explanation given as to why.
4. Also in episode nine, "Take a Look At the Lawmen", a rather non-threatening man robs a bank in an attempt to pay off an international mob organization. What nationality was this mob group?

Answer: Russian

The Russian mob, led by Vasily Lukin, asks $10,000 from a man to bring him over to America. Upon his arrival, Vasily demands another $10,000 for the safe arrival of his family, otherwise they will be sent away. To gain the money, the man robs a bank, and in doing so, kills a bystander through a window with one of his warning shots.
5. In episode ten, "Let All the Children Boogie", Detective Chris Skelton volunteers to be a bodyguard for a glam rock star, Sebastian Grace (of the Electric Insects), that Chris is a huge fan of. Chris ends up losing Sebastian and his girlfriend, "Rocket Girl", when they go off to an inspiration point in Sebastian's van. What do Sebastian and Chris claim happened to "Rocket Girl" when she ends up missing?

Answer: "Rocket Girl" was abducted by a UFO.

It certainly seemed like she was abducted by an alien spacecraft. but the spacecraft in question turns out to be an experimental aircraft. The force of the propulsion from it pushes her into the swamp where she drowns. Sam only finds this out after almost drowning himself the same way. Sebastian grace was played by Cheyenne Jackson.
6. Not referencing any particular episode, there is a member of the 125 squad who simply goes as Ted. But it's his appropriate nickname that gives him his personality. What is Ted's nickname?

Answer: Sizable

Sizable Ted was a guy you WANTED on your side in a fight. He had a friendly disposition when he appeared on screen, but was the guy Gene turned to to get his criminals to spill. Ted never seemed to put much effort into manhandling felons, they seemed to cower in his presence when he came near. Sizable Ted was played by John Cenatiempo.
7. The character Tony Crane played a prominent role in episode 12, "The Simple Secret of the Note in Us All". A newspaper columnist turns up murdered, and Sam Tyler suspects Tony Crane. Sam remembers Tony from a 2008 case in which Tony is arrested for a similar situation. What is it that Tony Crane does for a living?

Answer: Art dealer

Sam decides that by-the-book policing won't work in this case, but since the media are all over the case, it's the first time the Lieut wants to go by the book. Sam gets thrown in jail for not following the letter of the law on this case.
8. In episode 12, we meet Harry Woolf, the Chief of D's, who states that the media is all over the case, and nobody should take the law into their own hands. The actor who played the Chief of D's, had some extra time on his hands, as he didn't get the "acting" job he really wanted, that of President of the United States. Who was this actor/politician?

Answer: Fred Dalton Thompson

Fred Thompson made an attempt at the Republican Nomination, but couldn't get past McCain's stronghold in the latter part of the campaign. Fair enough, he still has a career as a lobbyist/attorney/actor/politician/radio host. Nice resume.
9. Episode 13, "Revenge of Broken Jaw", featured a bombing of a police bar that killed three of Lieutenant Hunt's buddies. A real-life organization was used in the plot as the group that took responsibility for the bombings, and threatened more in the future. What is the name of this real life 70's organization?

Answer: Weather Underground

The Weather Underground (formerly the Weathermen) were a leftist student organization vehemently against the U.S. Government and its involvement in the Vietnam War. This is a rare time in the show's history they used a large scale political history item in the show's plot line, as the Weather Underground committed a series of bombings early in the 1970's.
10. In episode 13, "Revenge of Broken Jaw", Lieutenant Hunt states he was going to go see a sporting event with the three men that died in the bombing. It's the same sporting event Sam and Ray Carling put a little side bet on. What sporting event was the precinct going to see at the end of the show?

Answer: A heavyweight boxing rematch between Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton

Ali, who lost the first fight against Norton, and left the fight with a broken jaw, won the rematch with Norton on September 10, 1973. Sam Tyler knew this information going into the bet with Ray, a definitive advantage of time travel. The whole gang ended up watching the fight at a strip club that had it on closed circuit television. Ahhh, the days before pay-per-view.
