Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Vanilla Mieux

Answer: Sugar Sugar Rune

'Sugar Sugar Rune' is about a pair of young witches, Chocolat (who wears pink) and Vanilla, who are sent to the human world to capture the hearts of boys. The witch who captures the most hearts will be crowned queen. Vanille's mother Candy is the current witch queen. Vanille is very shy, which makes her popular with human boys and her familiar is a white mouse called Blanca.

She temporarily becomes the Ogre Princess when she joins Pierre, the Ogre Prince, though Chocolat rescues her. In the manga, she becomes the new queen, though she is reluctant at first when Chocolat and Pierre go missing, and ends up with Houx, a boy from the Magical World who is a friend of Chocolat.
2. Homura Akemi

Answer: Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Homura Akemi is arguably the main character of 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica', as most of the story revolves around her attempts to stop Madoka contracting with Kyubey, a little white creature who turns out to be an evil alien, and turning into a magical girl.

She is skilled in the use of firearms, but her real weapon is a shield which enables her to control time, and which acts as a cache for weapons. Episode 10 of the anime reveals that Homura is not only a veteran, but a time traveller; she has gone back in time and repeated the same period multiple times to try and save Madoka, and her original wish was to become strong enough to protect Madoka.

She started out shy and quiet, but became increasingly aloof and cynical. She does not get on with any of the other magical girls.

Although Madoka still contracts in the end, she gives Homura a ribbon as a keepsake, and Homura fights wraiths, the new enemies, in honour of Madoka.
3. Zakuro Fujiwara

Answer: Tokyo Mew Mew

Zakuro Fujiwara - aka Renee Roberts in the English dub - is the oldest of the 'Tokyo Mew Mew' girls, and is infused with the DNA of a grey wolf, which gives her wolf ears and a tail when she transforms. She is a teenage model and actress, and a veteran magical girl, and is reluctant to join the other Mew Mews at first. Mint has a crush on her.

In the original anime, she is implied to be Christian, and her ZaCross Whip has a crucifix-shaped handle. Like several other characters in this quiz, she is rather cold and aloof.

She temporarily pretends to betray the Mew Mews, to Mint's horror.
4. Makoto Kenzaki / Cure Sword

Answer: DokiDoki! PreCure

Cure Sword comes from the Trump Kingdom, which is destroyed by the Jikochuu in the very first episode, and is its Royal Songstress. She disguises herself as an idol named Makoto Kenzaki in order to search for her princess, Marie-Ange (if you've seen 'Sailor Moon Stars', this will sound familiar). Davi, her purple cat fairy, takes on a human form to play her manager.

She fights alone at first, and although she saves Cure Heart, she is initially reluctant to join the other Cures, though she later joins the team.

She hates Regina, the daughter of the Jikochuu King who was born from the dark half of Princess Marie-Ange's heart, and gets annoyed with Cure Heart for being too lenient towards her. In the English dub, 'Glitter Force: Doki-Doki', her name is Glitter Spade and her human alias is Mackenzie Mack.
5. Milky Rose

Answer: Yes! PreCure 5 GoGo!

Milky Rose acts as an ally to the Pretty Cure team in 'Yes! PreCure 5 GoGo!', the sequel to 'Yes! PreCure 5'. She is the magical girl form of Milk, a white lop-eared rabbit fairy from the Palmier Kingdom, and also disguises herself as a human girl called Kurumi Mimino.

She gains the power to transform into a magical girl after picking up a magic blue seed, and is inspired by watching magical girl TV shows. She loves chocolate and has a rivalry with Cure Dream, the resident pink Cure and team leader.

Her powers are based around roses, the symbol of this particular season, and her signature attack involves her summoning a giant metal rose, which then explodes into a storm of metal shards.
6. Caren, Princess of the Antarctic Ocean

Answer: Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch

Caren is the twin sister of Noel, and the Mermaid Princess of the Antarctic Ocean. She has a purple pearl (each Mermaid Princess has a different-coloured pearl which enables them to sing and transform into human idols) and her idol form is known as Purple Pearl Voice.

While Noel is quiet and friendly, Caren is abrasive and does not get on with Rina, the Mermaid Princess of the North Atlantic Ocean, as Rina was able to escape the sea monsters that kidnapped Noel. Although she is not a part of the core mermaid team, she does help them from time to time. All the main Mermaid Princesses have an image song, and Caren's is 'Aurora no Kaze ni Notte', or 'Riding on the Winds of the Aurora').
7. Luea

Answer: Jewelpet Magical Change

Luea is a black Netherland dwarf rabbit and the Jewelpet of Truth. She can be considered a foil to Ruby, the main Jewelpet, who is a white hare. Her eyes, like all Jewelpets, are jewels; blue apatite, to be exact. Her symbol is a butterfly. She is introduced fairly late in the 'Jewelpet' series, appearing in 'Lady Jewelpet', where she's partnered with Lillian, a human girl whose theme colour is also purple, and who used to be a doll.

In 'Jewelpet Magical Change', she gains the ability to change into a human girl with a purple and blue bow in her hair which resembles rabbit ears.

In that series, she also becomes Jewelina, the Queen of Jewel Land.
8. Miku Kohinata

Answer: Senki Zesshou Symphogear G

Miku Kohinata is the roommate and closest friend of Hibiki Tachibana, the series' heroine. Although she is only an associate member of SONG and does not possess a Relic, in the second series, she is rescued by Maria Cadenzavna Eve and taken to the FIS' headquarters, where the mad scientist Dr Ver takes advantage of Miku's worries about Hibiki and desire to protect her.

He gives her the Relic Shenshou Jing, named after an ancient Chinese mirror, which gives her a purple suit of armour with a visor.

Her Armed Gear appears in the form of several mirrors which emit light and can cancel the power of other Relics, making her a dangerous opponent. She also has a brainwashing device on the back of her head which controls her movements. She loses her power and is de-brainwashed when Hibiki tricks her into being hit by a laser beam that destroys both Shenshou Jing and the fragment of Gungnir in Hibiki's body.
9. Lutecia Alpine

Answer: Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

Lutecia Alpine is introduced in 'Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS' and is initially an antagonist working for Jail Scaglietti, a mad scientist who created a series of robots called Gadget Drones and is searching for magical relics. She is not actually evil, but is working with Scaglietti in the hope of finding Relic XI, which can cure her mother's illness. Like many other 'Nanoha' characters, she is named after a car brand (in this case, the French car manufacturer Alpine, and the Lutecia, another name for the Renault Clio).

She has the ability to summon insects and is often accompanied by a giant insectoid called Garyu. Her weapon is a pair of gloves called Asclepius. She returns in the martial arts tournament themed sequel 'Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid'.
10. Onpu Segawa

Answer: Ojamajo Doremi

Onpu, called Ellie Craft in the English dub, is a child prodigy and idol. She is cursed when she calls Majo Ruka (the rival of Majo Rika, Doremi's mentor) a witch, and becomes a trainee witch alongside Doremi and friends. Onpu starts off as a rival to Doremi's group at first, and is able to use forbidden magic, such as mind control magic and inflicting amnesia on people, though this backfires later in the series.

She has a purple fairy called Roro and a purple crystal ball shaped like a teardrop. Later in the series, she saves the other Ojamajos, or 'witchlings', from being cursed and becomes a member of the group.
