Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In all of the following episodes, EXCEPT for this one, there is a planet that the Enterprise encounters in space without Enterprise crewmembers ever stepping foot on it.

Answer: The Defector

This episode actually featured no planets at all! We only see the re-creation of a special place from Romulus on the holodeck, programmed by Data so that the Romulan commander could be reminded of his homeworld, even if it was only an illusion. In "The Best Of Both Worlds, Part 2", we see the Enterprise passing by Saturn and other planets from our familiar Milky Way (referred to as the 'Terran System' by Wesley), hoping to track down the Borg cube that is already headed towards Earth.

The crew, of course, never steps foot on any of these, as Priority #1 is to retrieve the assimilated Captain Picard.

In "11001001", the starbase where the Enterprise picks up the Bynars is in orbit of a planet, as seen in both the opening teaser and several times throughout the episode whenever the Federation's flagship is either docking or departing.

The crew never steps foot on this planet, either, and nor to they ever step foot on the Bynars' distant homeworld. Then in "The Chase", there are several planets throughout the 'chase' that the Enterprise ventures to in order to find the missing pieces of the complex DNA puzzle discovered by Professor Galen.

The place of particular interest was the one that supported minimal plant life but whose atmosphere was intentionally destroyed by the Klingon ship, hoping to prevent the other players in the game from collecting any further data.
2. Riker, as well as several other bridge crewmembers, see a large blue capital letter 'P' displayed on a computer screen near the conn station, but Picard is absent when this occurs.

Answer: Lonely Among Us

Towards the end of episode, Picard has become united with the energy beings within the cloud that the Enterprise had originally passed through out in space. But as Riker gives the order to turn away and resume a new course, the bridge crew detects that the captain is trying to come back to the ship. On a computer screen near the conn station, Riker sees a blue capital letter 'P' displayed, asking aloud if it signifies 'Picard'. That's when he and the bridge crew conclude that, in much the same way the energy being originally entered through the ship's systems, their captain now exists within the circuitry as well. Data, with a plan in mind to retrieve the captain, has everyone come with him to the Transporter Room, where Picard ultimately re-materializes into his recognizable humanoid self.
3. Picard, plus two other aliens, are stunned and momentarily incapacitated by a green energy beam when they try to enter through a partially-opened door inside of an enclosed room.

Answer: Allegiance

After the 'Bolian cadet' disables the controls on the computer panel inside of the room that is holding everyone prisoner, the door opens partway; it looks like they'll finally be able to escape from their captors. But when Picard, the Bolian and the monstrous-looking alien step in front of the door, a green energy beam is discharged, stunning all of them and making them collapse onto the floor in agony while the wise alien man, who had refused to help, comments that he warned them about trying to escape beforehand.
4. Worf and Data enter into a bar down on a planet, questioning the patrons regarding the whereabouts of a certain woman...all while this woman is kissing an alien man whom she has just forced herself upon.

Answer: Preemptive Strike

The newly-promoted Lieutenant Ro Laren plays her role as an undercover Federation operative quite well. When Worf and Data enter the bar establishment, asking the patrons if they have seen a woman who is suspected of killing a Cardassian, Ro lustfully forces herself upon a stranger, pretending to be sexually interested in him in order to avoid suspicion.

The Human man at the bar, who turns out to be a Maquis, lies to the two officers and says that he hasn't seen the woman being inquired about. After Worf and Data leave, Ro goes over to the bar counter to thank the mysterious Maquis man for helping keep her identity a secret.
5. Q puts the Enterprise crew through a test that results in the deaths of several unnamed crewmembers, but by the end of the episode, he refuses to use his powers to revive those crewmembers.

Answer: Q Who

In the Enterprise crew's first showdown with the Borg, the Collective discharges an energy beam from the cube to remove an entire section of the Enterprise that still had living crewmembers on it. Worf gives a report from his tactical station during the attack that there were more than a dozen people in that removed section, although the individual names are never stated. Following resolution of the events, Q warns Picard that the Enterprise crew is not truly prepared for what awaits them in the great unknowns of outer space.

The omnipotent alien further refuses to revive those lost crewmembers, an important lesson to Picard that the captain of the Federation's flagship must deal with the dangers, as well as consequences, of space exploration.
6. Worf is practicing a speech in his quarters when Alexander comes running inside, followed by a ball filled with water being thrown and accidentally hitting Worf in the chest.

Answer: Firstborn

In the opening teaser, Worf is in his quarters, practicing a speech that he plans to tell Alexander about the approaching Age Of Ascension. Moments later, Alexander runs into the room while carrying a pink ball full of water. Just as Alexander is being scolded for his tardiness and for the playful foolishness, a second pink ball (also full of water) smacks Worf right in the chest, drenching his uniform and prompting Alexander's friend, who had just arrived in the doorway, to apologize.

Afterwards, the Chief Of Security gets down to more serious issues by telling Alexander it's time to prepare to become a true warrior.
7. Geordi's VISOR is attached to a tricorder in order to locate a beacon that is projecting from the Enterprise down onto the surface of a planet.

Answer: The Enemy

Wesley comes up with the idea of creating a beacon for Geordi to find in order to facilitate a rescue attempt from Galorndon Core. Geordi, however, is unable to see through his VISOR due to the effects of the electromagnetic interference from the violent storms; the same interference is wreaking havoc on the metabolism and the nervous system of his Romulan captor.

But the always-tech-savvy Geordi comes up with an idea of his own: to connect his VISOR to his tricorder, essentially creating a tracking device that will lead directly to the location of the beacon penetrating the planet's surface. Geordi instructs his captor how to do exactly that, and after a bit of a struggle while trying to stand up under his own power, the injured Romulan trudges onward with the newly-constructed device held out in front of him as the Enterprise's blind Chief Engineer presses on at his arm side.
8. Counselor Troi is in Ten Forward, serving herself a piece of a chocolate delicacy from a table, but before her alien companion joins her, he picks up an entire dessert arrangement and takes it with him.

Answer: Liaisons

Counselor Troi and her gluttonous Iyarran companion are at the buffet table in Ten Forward, the half-Betazoid explaining that dessert, in her opinion, is the best part of dinner and that it's only eaten for pleasure. They pass by several dessert arrangements before she stops at a giant chocolate puff, Deanna's favorite.

She serves herself a slice and allows the Iyarran to sample a bite, which is met with instant satisfaction. As Troi heads towards their table to sit down, her alien guest turns back to the buffet table, eyeing the colorful pastries on the platter next to the chocolate puff.

He boldly picks up the entire platter and carries it with him while still handling the already-loaded plate in his other hand, Troi gawking at the sight of pure gluttony in the distance.
9. The Enterprise crew, while investigating a solar phenomenon in space, encounters a damaged alien ship whose captain has no knowledge of how to repair his own ship's systems.

Answer: Symbiosis

The bridge crew is studying a star when Worf detects a distress signal; the source is an alien freighter captained by a T'Jon from the planet Onara. Through some rather awkward dialogue exchanged between him and Picard, T'Jon admits to not knowing how to replace a damaged coil on his own ship, moments later asking if the Enterprise crew can help him with repairs. T'Jon explains he's never encountered that type of problem in all of his years as the freighter's captain, and his unenthusiastic responses of gratitude towards the bridge crew for the assistance he receives lessen his credibility even more.
10. An Enterprise crewmember is being held hostage by aliens in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: Thine Own Self

A common recurring theme in the world of "Star Trek" is somebody being held somewhere against their will, and that was especially the case throughout the seven seasons of "The Next Generation". However, the episode where Data loses his memory and unknowingly causes a radiation poisoning epidemic is not one of those instances.

The aliens on the planet are never actually holding him against his will at any time--not when Data is in the home of the young girl who had the sick father, nor even when the angry mob confronts him in the open marketplace towards the end of the episode. Data always had the free will to do whatever he desired, even if he wasn't ever aware of who (or what) he truly was.

But in the other three episodes, Enterprise crewmembers do get held hostage in some form or another. "The High Ground" depicted Dr. Crusher being taken by one of the Ansata terrorists and forced to tend to the wounded until help arrives later. "Code Of Honor" featured Yar first being kidnapped by the Ligonian leader, then later forced to battle Yareena in a fight to the death, according to the laws of Ligonian society. Even though Yar willingly chose to participate in the death match, she was still being held against her will so that the Ligonian leader could exercise his own personal wishes.

Then at the end of "Birthright, Part 1", Worf is surrounded by several Romulan guards armed with disruptors upon entering the Klingon encampment down on the planet, the Klingon leader warning that neither the other fellow Klingons Worf was hoping to rescue nor the Chief Of Security himself would be leaving.
