Question 1 of 10
1. I guess the best place to start is at the beginning. The first time we ever set eyes on the good looking, rugged southerner just happened to be during a beautiful island sunset in the pilot episode as he stood amidst the shattered plane wreckage. Can you recall what Sawyer was doing the very first time we saw him? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Sawyer wasn't exactly a nice guy during those first episodes, and he probably still isn't, but he has definitely improved since then. Back then, Sawyer probably would've beat someone up for the last pack of cigarettes, in fact, Sawyer was not only involved in the first ever fight to break out amongst the survivors on the island, he was also involved in many other fights over the past few seasons, but can you remember who Sawyer's opponent was for that very first fight? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Sawyer isn't just a hot temper and a pretty face though, oh no, he's got an awesome body as well. His jeans are usually hanging dangerously low on his hips and he's definitely not shy about taking his shirt off. Factor in the dimples and the piercing blue eyes and it's no wonder that this 35-year-old makes such a great con artist. So can you remember in which episode we were treated to a shirtless Sawyer for the first time? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Wow, that accent... it too should be added to the incredible Sawyer package. Because Sawyer is originally from the southern state of Tennessee, he not only has a great voice but a great southern drawl as well, just ask baby Aaron, if he could talk I'm sure he'd agree. Unfortunately, I can't ask you to tell me what the first thing Sawyer ever said was because, well, it wasn't very nice, but I can tell you that it was said during the fight from question three, and instead I'll ask you to tell me the first question Sawyer asked immediately following his first not-so-nice words. What did Sawyer ask the person he was fighting with?
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. By the mid-season break of season three, we found out just how far the relationship between Kate and Sawyer had come. However, as meant for each other as they seem now, this wasn't always the case. In the earlier episodes, although the chemistry between them seemed obvious, it did not appear as though Kate liked Sawyer very much. In fact, Kate went on to assault Sawyer on several occasions before finally realizing she cared about him. When was the first time Sawyer was physically assaulted by Kate? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Sawyer is also quite famous for his fondness of nicknames. In fact, quiz author McGruff dedicated an entire quiz to the nicknames Sawyer has used, and if you've played that quiz or watched enough episodes of LOST to remember a lot of the nicknames, you'll realize that although Sawyer's nicknames for people may not always be very flattering, they can be quite funny. What I'm looking for is the first person to fall victim to one of Sawyer's nicknames. Can you tell me the nickname that this person was given?
Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Ah, that precious "Dear Mr. Sawyer" letter. Sawyer pulled that crumpled letter out many times during season one, he even let Kate read it once (and again, and again but without his permission those times... sneaky Kate). We know the story, we've seen the flashbacks, we've felt his pain, and now I want to know in which episode we first saw that mysterious letter that always seemed to humanize this otherwise cold, indifferent man every time he read it? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Never one to shy away from danger, Sawyer is definitely a guy to count on when it's time for a battle. The speedy, tough southerner can definitely hold his own and his quick thinking and street smarts can come in handy in sticky situations. He's clever and resourceful so it's no surprise that during season one he had his secret stash of goodies that he'd hoarded, and then took his craftiness to a whole new level in season two when he outsmarted everyone to end up with all the guns from the hatch. That being said, I'm sure it wouldn't shock you to know that Sawyer was the first survivor on the island to pull a gun, so how about you tell me what he did with the gun once he had pulled it out? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Because he was so hated during the early days, there was never a shortage of people who would've gladly lined up to get a couple punches off on Sawyer. One of those people could've been Jack, who is so patient and level-headed that it took him exactly eight episodes to finally lose his cool and punch Sawyer, not once, but twice in the same scene of the episode "Confidence Man". This being the first time Jack hits Sawyer, I want to know where they were when it occurred. Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Hmmm, okay, I'll admit it, there has been a lot of not very nice things that Sawyer's been involved in, but have faith, I have saved a good Sawyer moment for last. Now we know that Sawyer is pretty much a self-serving type of guy, but every now and then, when he thinks no one is watching, he does something nice and completely at random and that does not directly benefit him in any way which, to us watching, may seem a little bit out of character. Since random acts of kindness from Sawyer are such a rare treat, I'm wondering if you can remember the first sweet, un-Sawyer-like thing we see Sawyer do? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: He was lighting a cigarette.

This occurs about eleven and a half minutes into the first of the pilot episodes. In the scene, which lasts mere seconds, Sawyer has no lines, he simply lights his cigarette, walks in front of the battered remnants of the fuselage, stares off into the distance at something we can't see before turning around and walking over the airplane wing toward the sunset and the shore.

Answer: Sayid

The fight breaks out on the beach during the second pilot episode. We don't actually get to see what precipitated the fight, but when the two men are finally separated, Michael explains that Walt found some handcuffs in the jungle. Sayid then claims that Sawyer accused him of crashing the plane, and Sawyer defends his accusation by telling everyone that he saw Sayid sitting at the back of business class with his hands folded beneath a blanket the entire time, and that he also saw Sayid get pulled out of line before boarding AND that the guy travelling next to Sayid didn't survive the crash.

At one point during the scuffle, Sayid calls Sawyer a redneck, which I thought was pretty funny.

Answer: "The Moth"

Soon after the cave-in where Jack got trapped, Charlie runs onto the beach in search of help. He realizes that someone's got to tell Kate that Jack is trapped and just as he voices his thoughts, the camera pans around and shows Sawyer in the background wearing just a pair of jeans while he wrings the water from his shirt with his hands. Sawyer tells Charlie that Kate went off into the jungle with "Mohammed" and when Charlie asks in which direction they went, Sawyer tells Charlie not to worry and that he'll find Kate and tell her, and with his shirt still in his hand, Sawyer takes off after Kate and Sayid.

Answer: "You want some more of me, boy?!"

Sawyer asked this of Sayid during that first island scuffle just after they were pulled apart by Jack and Michael. Sayid didn't give Sawyer a yes or no answer, he just replied by saying he was sick of the redneck before Sawyer got into it again by telling everyone why he thought Sayid was responsible for the crash. If you remember Sawyer's actual first words, then good for you, but if you don't remember you can ask me, or if you happen to have the season one DVDs, I suggest slipping in the first disc and highlighting the "Pilot II" episode and then fast forwarding to around the 8 minute mark to hear Sawyer's first words.

Answer: When Kate thought he had stolen the camp's water supply.

Kate did assault Sawyer all those other times as well, and probably on several other occasions, but the scene in which she jumps him in the jungle to demand that he tell her where he's hiding the camp's water is the first time. In the scene, Sawyer is crouched closing the lid of his "secret stash" case when a noise makes him turn just in time to see Kate coming at him.

She takes him down pretty hard, landing on top of him. After a few jokes from Sawyer, he pushes her over, reversing their positions, before Sayid arrives to pull Sawyer off of Kate.

It turned out that the assault was all for naught as Sawyer was not the water-stealing culprit. All this occurred in the episode "White Rabbit".

Answer: Lardo (Hurley)

This also occurred during the same fight sequence from question three. After being separated, Sawyer and Sayid keep jabbering at each other until Kate yells at them to stop. She informs everyone that they have found the transceiver but that they need someone to fix it so she asks if anyone can help.

When Sayid says that he might be able to help fix it, Sawyer protests, "Oh yeah, let's trust this guy!" to which Hurley says, "Hey, we're all in this together, man, let's treat each other with a little respect", to which Sawyer politely replies, "Shut up, Lardo!".... Awwww, isn't he sweet?

Answer: "Pilot II"

It took an episode and a half before we set eyes on the letter and saw the effect it seemed to have on Sawyer, and then another 6 episodes before we learned what the letter said. The first time we see Sawyer reading the letter occurs about 20 minutes through "Pilot II" right before he decides to join the trek to find reception for the transceiver.

When we see him reading it, Sawyer is sitting in the exploded remnants of one of the plane's turbines while he smokes a cigarette. Incidentally, the first time we discover what the letter actually says is during the episode "Confidence Man" when Kate reads the letter out loud at Sawyer's behest.

Answer: Killed a polar bear.

Kate, Sayid, Boone, Shannon, Charlie and Sawyer were traipsing through the jungle in an attempt to reach higher ground for the transceiver to have reception. At one point, while making their way through some tall grass, Sawyer and Sayid start arguing about when to try turning on the transceiver when a noise grabs their attention. As everyone turns to run away from the sound that is rapidly coming towards them, Sawyer stands his ground, pulls his gun from the back of his pants and fires a bunch of shots. What he kills ends up being a polar bear, one of several on the island. When they all return to Sawyer's side and see the bear, the following dialogue ensues,
Kate: "Where'd that come from?"
Sawyer: "Probably Bear Village. How the hell do I know?"
Kate: "Not the bear, the gun?"
Sawyer: "I got it off one of the bodies."
Sayid: "One of the bodies?"
Sawyer: "Yeah, one of the bodies."
Shannon: "People don't carry guns on planes."
Sawyer: "They do if they're a U.S. marshal, sweet cheeks. There was one on the plane."
Kate: "How do you know that?"
Sawyer: "I saw a guy lying there with an ankle holster, so I took the gun. Thought it might come in handy. Guess what? I just shot a bear!"
Kate: "So why do you think he was a marshal?"
Sawyer: "Because he had a clip-on badge. I took that too, thought it was cool."

How can anyone NOT like this guy? (wink)

Answer: In the caves.

Jack's anger toward Sawyer had been building up for several episodes at this point, but it took Shannon's asthma, the unavailability of her medication, and Sawyer's apparently blatant disregard for her health in this episode to finally break Jack. The two men almost came to blows earlier in the episode, but Kate happened by and was able to burst the rapidly expanding testosterone bubble between the men and diffuse the situation before Jack or Sawyer could even throw a punch.

However, later in the episode, while standing by the waterfall in the caves, Jack AGAIN asks Sawyer for the medication.

When Sawyer doesn't comply, Jack lands a punch on him just as Sawyer was bringing a cup of water to his lips, knocking the cup out of his hand and sending Sawyer to the ground. Sawyer then stands up, makes some remark along the lines of, "It's about time, cowboy, I've been telling you from day one we're in the wild", and then Jack punches him again, this time drawing blood from Sawyer's mouth. Sawyer stands up once again and asks Jack if that's all he's got. Jack contemplates this for a second while glancing at the faces of the shocked onlookers and decides to simply walk away.

Answer: He gave Claire some wallets he'd found for the memorial she was organizing.

This occurred about 30 minutes into "Walkabout". Sawyer approaches Claire and another woman who are sitting down and sorting through some stuff. Claire looks up at Sawyer, who appears embarrassed as he stammers out that he found the wallets and thought she could use them. Claire, who seems a little surprised by the gesture, tells him thanks as he walks away. Surprisingly, or probably not, none of the other things are actually "nice things" that Sawyer has done. Although in one episode, Sayid did toss an apple to Sawyer, but that would be a "sweet" Sayid moment and possibly another quiz all together. (wink)

And so ends my tribute to Sawyer. I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for playing.
