"Supernatural" Season 14 Episodes 1 - 4 Quiz

Answer: "Shot Down in Flames" by AC/DC

"Shot Down in Flames" was almost too "on the spot" as background music, as the viewers were treated to clips from season 13 of the brothers and their allies trying to save their world, their friends, and their family; winning small battles, but then suffering losses each time, or "getting shot down" each time.

The music then ended on the clip of the ultimate loss of the season - Michael refusing to relinquish his Dean vessel.

Answer: Bobby

Jack was left without his powers at the end of season 13, after Lucifer stole his grace. So, at the beginning of season 14, Apocalypse World Bobby was teaching him to fight. Sam also spent time talking to the boy and trying to help him, but he was also busy being the "chief" of the group of Apocalypse World hunters, and searching for Michael. Both Ketch and Castiel were off searching for Michael at the beginning of the episode, as well.

Answer: drown in the bad

Mary and Sam had a heart to heart talk as they drove to rescue Castiel from demons. Sam asked her to stop telling him it was "gonna be fine." Sam said, "Dean's gone, and we have no idea where he is, or if he's even still alive, you know? Michael could have burned him out or worse." Mary responded that she knew Dean was "out there, scared and alone." She then said she knew "he might never come back." But she told him she had to "think about the good" or she would "drown in the bad." She then said, "For Dean's sake, I can't do that. We can't do that."

Answer: "There will be no new King of Hell. Not today. Not ever."

Sam also told Kip that he was no Crowley, and that he had never made such a deal with Crowley. And, after killing Kip, he made this statement about no new King of Hell, and followed up with, "And if anybody wants the job, you can come through me. Understood? So what's it gonna be?" The demons responded by smoking out.

Answer: Michael

During "Gods and Monsters," Sam (Along with Mary and Bobby) were in Duluth, on the trail of Michael, who was still possessing Dean. They read about a pile of corpses there, investigated, and discovered they had been vampires and were killed by Michael.

After tracking down another vampire, they were ambushed by werewolves who were not affected by silver. Then, Dean appeared, telling them Michael no longer possessed him.

Answer: What happened to Jimmy Novak and his family

Cas was trying to help Nick, who was devastated by the deaths of his wife and child, and by the knowledge of how Lucifer had used him. Nick confronted him, saying, " Castiel, you're just a stone cold body snatcher. You're no different than Lucifer." Castiel told him, "In all my thousands of years, what happened to Jimmy Novak and his family is my greatest regret." Castiel was referring to the fact that Jimmy and his wife were both killed, and their daughter had a troubled childhood and difficult teenage years.

Answer: hunter

Michael had spent a lot of time experimenting on vampires, and then he met with the werewolves, telling the leader that he was in charge, and he thought the monsters should be at the top of the food chain, not the humans. He said, "There are ways to enhance your - let's call them talents." He said the ways were "fully tested".

The pack leader said that while he loved the idea of a world where the monsters were in charge and they only kept enough humans around for food, it was "an absurd dream." Michael replied, "Is it? Why be the hunted, when you can be the hunter? Hmmm?"

Answer: Sam's beard

This fun exchange was the first scene of the episode. Dean had just returned at the end of the previous episode. It provided some fun misdirection to the viewers, who probably first thought he was referring to his possession by Michael. Sam interrupted Dean's complaints with, "Dean, it's just a beard." Sam grew the beard while he was preoccupied searching for his brother at the beginning of the season.

He shaved the beard at the beginning of the next episode, "Mint Condition."

Answer: meat fork

Dean discovered the scar on his arm. Cas then helped him remember Michael getting stabbed by the person with the spear from the bad place. They then called Jody, who told them she had several victims with marks that looked like they were made with a "giant meat fork." The brothers then headed to Sioux Falls.

Answer: Sam

Jody told the brothers that, until she talked to them, she thought the killings in Sioux Falls were the work of a human, who was perhaps a serial killer. She then said, "It would have been the first one in Sioux Falls since . . ." She was interrupted by Sam, who said, "Well, since Robert Leroy Anderson." This was a call back to a scene in season 10's "The Executioner's Song," when Sam revealed his hobby of collecting serial killer statistics. Dean quizzed him then, calling Sam's knowledge "freaky stuff." Sam replied that it was a "hobby" called "true crime." Dean argued that "needlepoint" and "bass fishing" were hobbies, but "collecting serial killer stats . . . is an illness."

Answer: Dean

Dean told his brother, "I said yes to him because I thought . . . It was stupid. I was stupid. . . And it wasn't a blink, being possessed. I made it sound like that, but it wasn't. I don't remember most of what Michael did with me, because I was under water, drowning - and that I remember. I felt every second of it. Clawing, fighting for air. I thought I could make it out, but I couldn't. I wasn't strong enough. And now he's gone.

He's out there putting an army of monsters together, and he's hurting people. And it's all on me, man. I said yes.

It's my fault." Sam looked at him, with tears in his eyes, empathizing with his brother.

Answer: Ghost

The brothers were hunting the ghost of Jordan, the owner of a comic book shop, who was angry about how his shop was being run. The ghost was angry that his heirs had hired Stuart back, and Stuart was stealing. (The ghost did not know that his heirs were docking Stuart's pay for the thefts.) The ghost possessed a doll and a life size model of a horror movie killer, attacking people during the episode.

Answer: "Hookman"

The episode was a tribute to the horror genre generally, and to "Supernatural" specifically. Among the many references, there was a poster of "Hell Hazers" in the shop, and a commercial for "Hell Hazers III" during Dean's horror marathon. "Hell Hazers" was from the season 2 episode, "Hollywood Babylon".

The killer truck was part of a commercial during the same marathon. That was from season 1's "Route 666". And, Sam made his bomb in a "Scooby Doo" lunchbox. That was a great throwback to the season 13 episode, "ScoobyNatural".

The hookman did not appear in the episode. "Hookman" was a season 1 episode about a ghost.

Answer: Time to slice and dice.

The movie "All Saints Day" was playing, and it was a life size action figure of the Hatchet Man killer from the movie that was possessed. The parallel was fun, as the movie played at the same time as the possessed figure chased someone through the hospital, with both the movie character and the possessed figure announcing, "Time to slice and dice."

Answer: Thelma and Louise

After Sam confesseed that he hated Halloween because he'd been humiliated when he got sick at a party as a child, Dean told him he had to get over it, saying, "Next year, we are doing Halloween right. I'm picking matching outfits, like, uh, Batman and Robin? Bert and Ernie? That's weird. Uh - Rocky, Bullwinkle? Shaggy and Scooby? Turner and Hooch? Ren and Stimpy? Thelma and Louise? We just put it in drive and go!"

(I don't know about anyone else, but I marked my calendar for the Halloween episode of season 15.)
