In the beginning of Leg 3, teams were instructed to travel to Hanoi, Vietnam. Here, they would need to travel to Hau Lau Prison (aka the Hanoi Hilton). Teams departed with no extra money and were told not to beg or sell items during the leg. Also, teams had to reserve seats on a flight at the travel agency in the Genghis Khan Hotel. On the way to the prison, teams had to avoid a car crash and Duke and Lauren were forced to hand over their last $11. Teams waited until 8:00am for their next clue.

At the prison, teams needed to find Senator John McCain's old flight suit amongst the maze-like passages. Here, teams were told to travel one and a half miles to a nearby intersection in Hanoi's Old Quarter Marketplace. Here they obtained the Road Block. During this task, teams needed to sell enough flowers for 80,000 Vietnamese Dollars (approx. $5 US dollars).

After the task was complete, teams could keep the money they made.

Answer: Erwin and Godwin

After the Road Block, teams needed to travel by bus thirty miles to the town of Vac. Here, teams needed to travel by foot to a nearby Buddhist Temple called Din Vac. Once there, teams could find their clue. On the way, teams were scattered on five buses.

When Tom and Terry arrived in Vac, they broke a rule stating that they could not ride a motorbike in Vietnam due to safety reasons. Because of this, they were penalized later in the leg.

Once teams receive the clue in Vac, they began their Detour. Teams could choose between 'Fuel' and 'Fowl'. In 'Fuel', teams had to take wet coal from a communal pile in a small courtyard and use a contraption to press it into coal bricks. Once teams had thirty bricks of appropriate size, they would receive their clue.

In 'Fowl', teams had to find a different courtyard. Here, teams needed to construct a birdcage using the proper materials for their clue.

After the Detour, teams were instructed to travel by foot to the next Pit Stop, a local rice field. The first team to arrive (after completing the 'Fuel' Detour task, was Edwin and Godwin, and because of their victory they won a state-of-the-art home entertainment system. Terry and Tom cut it close during the Pit Stop. Due to their penalty they were pushed to eighth place.

In the end, Duke and Lauren (the only team to compete in the 'Fowl' task) were eliminated from the race.

In the fourth leg of the race, teams left Vac and took a taxi twenty miles to Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital. Here, teams visited Ly Tahdai Garden where they were instructed to listen for their clue in the southeast corner of the park. This clue told teams to taxi across the Red River to Ben Xe Gia Lam, then take a bus to Ben Xe Bai Chay where they could find their clue at Hydrofoil Harbor in Halong Bay, nearly 103 miles away.

Answer: Peter

The clue at Hydrofoil Harbor was a Road Block. Teams needed to choose a team member with strong arms and legs. In this task, teams needed to boat to a nearby cliff where the chosen teammate needed to use mechanical gear to ascend ninety feet up the cliff wall.

At the top, teams could repel down with their next clue. David, Terry, Rob, Sarah, Karlyn, Godwin, Tyler, and Dustin completed this task.

After the Road Block, teams were instructed to travel 1.2 miles by boat to Sung Sot Cave to search for their clue. Here they found the Detour. For the 'Over' task, teams needed to ride a boat to a large boat called a junk where they could board a sampan.

Then, they'd need to find a provision boat and deliver two loads of cargo to different addresses. Once they returned their two invoices back to the provision ship, they could receive their clue. Lyn and Karlyn completed this task.

Answer: Thirty

In the 'Under' Detour task, teams took a junk to an area where they could take a sampan to a local pearl field. Here, teams needed to pull thirty oyster traps from underwater into their boat. Once this was done, teams could take them to a local oyster dealer who would count them and give them their clues. All of the teams excluding Lyn and Karlyn completed this task.

Answer: Tom and Terry

Following the Detour, teams had to take their sampan back to their junk, then travel nine miles to a beach on Soi Sim Island, one of the many islands in the bay. Here, teams could find Phil and the mat. Rob and Kimberly were first to arrive and because of this they won jet skis for both of them. Tom and Terry were the last to arrive following the tough Detour, and they were eliminated because of it.
