Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first leg of the race (in China), teams chose between 'Labour' and 'Leisure'. Tom and Terry chose 'Leisure', but which team was the only other to do so?

Answer: Kellie and Jamie

In Leg 1, eleven teams completed a Detour task at a specific intersection in Houhai in Beijing. Here, they chose between 'Labour', in which teams needed to use bricks to pave a section of intricate Chinese sidewalk, or they needed to complete 'Leisure' in which teams needed to perform Taiji Bailong, placing and balancing a ball upon a paddle.

After the Detour, teams needed to go to Juyong Pass on the Great Wall of China and scale the side of the wall to reach the Pit Stop. While most teams completed 'Labour', Tom and Terry and Kellie and Jamie completed the 'Leisure' Detour task.
2. In Mongolia in Leg 2, teams that chose 'Fill It Up' had to fill how many canisters with water?

Answer: Four

After taking a two-and-a-half mile long horseback ride through the Mongolian countryside, teams found a Detour choice between 'Take It Down' and 'Fill It Up', both of which featured tasks common in nomadic Mongolian lives. In 'Take It Down', teams deconstructed the walls and roofs of nomadic shelters, gathered and tied the materials, and placed them on a donkey to receive their next clue.

In 'Fill It Up', teams traveled with a cart to the nearby river, filled four canisters with water (using ladle devices), and brought the cart back to the nomad camp to fill a larger basin to a designated line to receive their clue. Duke and Lauren, Peter and Sarah, and Kellie and Jamie chose 'Take It Down' while the remaining seven teams chose 'Fill It Up'.

After this, teams headed to Hotel Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar for the Road Block.
3. In Leg 3, teams completing the 'Fuel' Detour task had to work with which fuel source?

Answer: Coal

In Leg 3, teams found their way to the town of Phố Vác in Vietnam where they were given a Detour task consisting of 'Fuel' and 'Fowl'. In 'Fuel', teams needed to use a press to make thirty coal bricks from wet coal which could be used as a source of fuel.

In 'Fowl', teams needed to craft birdcages in order to receive their clue. Every team except Duke and Lauren completed the Fuel Detour task; they were eliminated shortly after at the Pit Stop at the nearby Canh Dong Dia in Phố Vác.
4. In Leg 5 in India, teams not completing 'Wild Things' for their Detour had to complete what other choice?

Answer: Wild Rice

Upon arriving in the city of Chennai, India, teams headed by taxi, then bus to the town of Mamallapuram to find Vallavar Arts and Crafts. Once there, teams chose between 'Wild Things' and 'Wild Rice'. In 'Wild Things', teams drove to the Madras Crocodile Bank and found a specific pit where they needed to wrangle a crocodile with professional wranglers and transport it to another pit to receive their next clue.

In 'Wild Rice', teams used a reference picture and coloured rice powder to mimic a floral design on the ground in a very meticulous pattern.

After the Detour, teams took a bus back to Chennai. 'Wild Things' participants included Dustin and Kandice, Peter and Sarah, Rob and Kimberly, Lyn and Karlyn, and Erwin and Godwin while Tyler and James and Mary and David finished 'Wild Rice'.
5. Leg 7 brought teams to the island nation of Mauritius. In the 'Salt' Detour, teams needed to find what object in piles of salt?

Answer: Salt shaker

In Leg 7, teams flew to Mauritius to complete a Detour task in Case Noyale. Their choice was between 'Sea' and 'Salt'. In 'Sea', teams took a motorboat two and a half miles to Île aux Benitiers where, using a treasure map to guide them, they needed to locate the mast and sail to return to the boat, attach them, then sail back.

In 'Salt', teams needed to search through three large salt piles for one of only a few salt shakers found inside. Only some of these would contain clues. All of the teams completed 'Sea' as five of the six teams first attempted the difficult 'Salt' task, found it too hard to locate the salt shakers, then switched to the other. Teams then proceeded to the Pit Stop at the Château Bel Ombre.
6. In Leg 8 in Madagascar, what was unique about the Detour tasks?

Answer: Teams had to make their choice while influenced by the Intersection

Arriving in Antananarivo, Madagascar, teams found their detour task after reaching the first Intersection ever used in "The Amazing Race" history. At Lac Anosy, teams needed to choose between 'Long Letter' and 'Long Sleep'. In 'Long Sleep', teams needed to travel by van to a market, then cover and deliver a total of eight mattresses to an address to receive their clue. All four participating teams completed this one (with Tyler and James and Rob and Kimberly taking the Fast Forward).

In 'Long Letter', teams would've needed to make and decorate twenty-eight pieces of paper at another location.

After this task, teams were no longer Intersected.
7. In the "Find the Music" Detour task in the second half of leg 9 (in Ukraine) teams needed to find sheet music for which composer?

Answer: Tchaikovsky

Finding a Detour clue at an apartment building in Kiev, teams were told to either 'Make the Music' or 'Find the Music'. In 'Make the Music', teams needed to travel three miles to find a local hip hop club where they'd need to don rapper garb and create a rap using the names of all the countries visited on the race so far.

They then needed to perform it to get their clue. In 'Find the Music', teams traveled two and a half miles to the National Music Academy of Ukraine to search through thousands of pages for sheet music of Tchaikovsky's "Concert Fantasy" for Piano (wearing formal wear).

They then needed to search through over one hundred practice rooms for one of six pianists who would play the piece and give their next clue. While Dustin and Kandice, Rob and Kimberly, and Lyn and Karlyn 'Made the Music', Tyler and James and Erwin and Godwin found it.

After this, teams headed to the Pit Stop, the Great Patriotic War Museum.
8. Up to how many different teams could pick the 'Throw It' Detour task in Leg 10?

Answer: Three

Heading to the city of Ouarzazate, Morocco, teams inevitably found their Detour in the town of Idelssan and the Cafe Pirgola. Here, teams needed to either 'Throw It' or 'Grind It'. In 'Throw It', teams had to travel four miles to a pottery shop to use a wheel and throw two properly-made pots.

In 'Grind It', teams traveled to a horse ranch and olive farm four miles away, use a mill to grind olives, and fill sacks with the ground olives. Each Detour task had only three work stations, first-come-first-serve. 'Grind It' was completed by all four teams, but Dustin and Kandice were last to arrive and had to wait to use the first available mill.

After the Detour, teams went to a nomadic camp outside the city of Marrakesh in the Atlas Mountains, the Pit Stop.
9. In Leg 11 in Spain, all four remaining teams completed the 'Lug It' Detour task which involved carrying tomatoes in Barcelona.

Answer: False

In Leg 11, teams flew from Morocco to Spain and found their Detour task at the Parc del Laberint d'Horta in Barcelona. Here, teams needed to choose 'Lug It' or 'Lob It'. In 'Lug It', teams taxied four miles through Barcelona to a bridge to find large nine foot tall giant costumes which they needed to wear and transport a mile to claim their clue.

In 'Lob It', teams traveled nine miles to a pile of tomatoes (reminiscent of a tomato festival commonly seen in Spain) and search through the vegetables to find a tomato with their clue inside.

While this task persisted, locals would throw tomatoes at participants. Rob and Kimberly and Lyn and Karlyn completed 'Lob It' while Tyler and James and Dustin and Kandice completed 'Lug It'. Teams completing the Detour headed to the race's final Pit Stop, Palau Nacional de Montjuic.
10. In the final leg of the race (Leg 12), in which country did teams complete the Detour?

Answer: France

In the final leg, the final three teams made their way to the Champs-Elysees and the Place de la Concorde to find the last Detour, a choice between 'Art' and 'Fashion'. In 'Art', teams needed to locate a specific studio in the city and take a painting to a man waiting on the Seine. Once this man completed their painting, they would receive their next clue.

In 'Fashion', teams needed to go to a fashion studio and create a jacket using materials provided for them. Once this was fitted onto a mannequin and approved by a fashion designer, they could receive their next clue. All three teams completed completed 'Fashion'.

After the Detour, teams flew to their final destination city, New York City.
